I know absolutely nothing about the players in this year’s draft but very happy from what I have read posted here that the chances of landing a quality player at our pick are very good.

Not sure of the Latin translation but our motto from here on in is “ in the former Richmond recruiting guy we trust”.

Here's something to be shot down... (I haven't looked up point valuations, or other Clubs' needs to use picks)...

The (somewhat) concensus here seems to be that we are into (supporters, not necessarily Club) the same 4 or 5 players who seem genuine chances to be available for one reason or another.

Say 2 of them are there on the night...

Could we offer Port our 3 picks plus our first and third next year, for 16, 18, 86, next year's 2nd and 3rd?

Obviously it would put us in a pretty big hole for 2021, so we'd have to weigh up a top 20 pick now rather than in 2 years (if it's even remotely feasible at all)...

I know Sam held on to pick 13 through trade season but if the 1-2 guys he’s Deadset after are gone I wouldn’t be surprised if he traded pick 13 and 53 for 2 picks in the 20-35 range. Still wish we could trade down a few picks to get McAsey but that’s wishful thinking unfortunately.
I don’t think he kept 13 particularly for one guy in particular. More because we didn’t have to trade it to get Bruce and Keath which proved to be true. Now we can use it to our advantage in any number of ways.

Very interesting post. Great question. I'm not much of a gambler, so my reaction is that I wouldn't want to have a draft night like St Kilda are going to have this year right when they need a big kick start to rebuilding their list. Imagine if, as unlikely as it may seem now, we need a bit of a serious list clean out, like we have had a few times in the past 8 years, 8-13 list spots, and all we have is late picks and we have to use all 3 of them. I would prefer we avoid that sort of scenario.

Would absolutely love Kemp. We can afford for him to sit out for a year too, considering how much talent we having coming through.

Preferred for our pick based on who we have been loosely linked to:

Kemp
Pickett
Bergman
Weightman

My limited knowledge leads me to agree with that list order.

According to knightmare:

Strengths: Stands up in the big moments, versatility to impact games in any position other than ruck, acceleration, breaks the lines at high speed, movement and evasion through traffic, wins first possession at stoppages on the move, wins ground balls on the move, ground ball winning, distribution by hand, intercept marking, reading of the ball in flight, aerial marking, one-on-one marking, leadup marking, contested marking, marking forward of centre, threat one-out in the goal square, hurt factor by foot, places kicks out in front of targets to lead onto, vision
Weaknesses: Needs to find more of the ball to become a top tier midfielder, consistency over four quarters, unclear best position

Thanks mate. A later post with colour coding suggests Kemp's disposal is not great?

Kemp for me , looks an A grader to my eye.
not convinced about any of the others linked to us.
13 seems way to much to pay for a specialist forward pocket.

i remember last year going to bed feeling a little grumpy missing Ben King , and a little underwhelmed by BSmith ,
Don’t mind being grumpy again this year if we land another of Smith’s caliber 😁

Kemp for me too if he is still available. Still would like a Worrell to develop as a Key Back. 2nd pick / 3rd picks small forward/ wing and a back up ruck.

I was happy last year but I remember previously that BigFooty groupthink had me convinced that Naughton was a terrible pick and Kieran Collins was the messiah, so I've decided I'm not going to get too emotional either way before a ball's kicked from now on haha

ha ha, just to muddy up everything al over again

the summary is that gold coast is after melbournes pick 8 by doing a double pick swap in the teens, which means the dees would switch focus from Pickett at 8 to weightman at 15, leaving picket to us who apparently we are gagging for.
