If Kemp's rehab is successful and he is believed to be probably playing footy come round one - yet you prefer the selection of Flanders, what do you see as Flanders' upside for the Swans by comparison to what Kemp might contribute?

This is going to sound weird but I see Flanders having something “different” to what we have. His ability to create space cannot be underestimated. Really like how he brings others into the game. The gap isn’t much though I’d be happy with both. My view is we could get both.

He seems largely similar to Parker and Heaney in his strengths, at least to me.

That’s not a bad thing- have him different to those two anyway. I honestly wouldn’t be disappointed with any of those players on my list though.

The first round drafting is a bore,...the excitement holds for rnds 3 onwards...thats where the real gold is that changes teams......and the real excitement for prospects who still have a lingering doubt as to whether or not they will get picked up.

It shouldn’t be. It’s only been that way for us because we’ve sucked at “live” first rounders

Get both sounds terrific to me. Trade up after our first pick? Ideally what pick do you see being used on Kemp? Twomey suggests 16.

Problem for me is that after the first 2 rounds I start not having a clue who anyone is. At least with the first 25 picks I have a strong idea of who is who and who is left that I may want.

Anywhere in the 14-18 range. Maybe put our future first (ideally 2nd), and multi it with our second to get one of Geelong’s picks or Port. This is assuming Kemp is still there by then

The fear is very justified as other than the academy picks the Swans do not have a good history over the past 20 years of nailing first round draft selections.
Dalrymple's past performance at the Doggies and his influence last year at the Swans could offer a divergent pathway to the Swans goat track first round picks over the last twenty years. Who knows? Recruiters are now entering the acknowledged realms of importance which determine the fates of coaches and team success. They may have always been there in terms of importance but were not acknowledged as such. Great list managers and recruit selectors - can see big dollar investments being spent by the biggest Clubs. Carlton and Essendon ( and everyone else???) could do worse with their dollars than poach Wells from Geelong. Dalrymple may well become the best off field signing we have ever made. Time will tell. Let's hope his success continues tonight.

But he only spilt it the day before the draft. Information the Giants would have craved last week

Smart play on our behalf! Get them to pay 3 arms and a leg when they didn’t halve to

I might have a slight preference for Stephens but choosing "best available" as our first pick is a sound policy. Can't see why we wouldn't bid on Green if he was seen as the best available come our pick. When matched, if we select Flanders because he is regarded as next best.....I'd be happy with that.
Twoomey yesterday saying GWS now shopping pick 4 in light of reports no bid on Green till 10.
If they sell it we should 100% bid on Green and give them the 🖕 while doing so.

I’m not fussed whether we bid or not. We aren’t getting him. Let someone else bid.

For the record my preference is:

1. Flanders
2. Kemp
3. Cooper Stephens
4. Dylan Stephens
5. Caleb Serong
6. Jeremy Sharp ( hope he’s the one at our second)

Kemp was my preference but I'm now in agreement with that after reading up on Flanders. His inside game is very good, he has great acceleration out of stoppages, can shrug tackles and best of all he is aggressive in the Toby Green mould. I think the club acknowledges that we need not just first hands on the ball but also movement of the ball out of stoppages. I think it's a good move.

I'd love for us to look at a more pure inside mid like Sam Philp for our second pick.

The Swans were very creative last year with their use of the live draft and were way ahead of our opposition in appreciating its potential to deliver better results. I hope you are right and I can see it as also being possible that we might get both, because it seems to be the way our recruitment team looks at the process. We do need a player who is a creative and effective distributor from the coal face. If Flanders also has the poise and gift to make others seem slow, then that would be good enough for me to agree that he could be very special.

Love how the board has decided (on no evidence?) Kemp has gone from no footy in 2020 to playing round one now.
😂

We should never have been thinking of replacing JPK. He's a legend of the club and what made him stand out was not his ability (as beastly as he is/was, there are plenty in the comp as capable in that mould as him), but it was his consistency. So you can get the prospect who plays more like JPK than anyone, but if he's not as freakishly consistent as JPK, then you haven't really come close to replacing him. I'd think our recruiting team is smarter than judging prospects based on a Kennedy scale.

Inside bulls are the most over-rated types in terms of importance to a team anyway these days IMO.

Best point you’ve ever made! Joey’s consistency game in game out over an entire decade has been unbelievable

Wouldn't that be vinegar on their wound? And we'd be hurting them big time next draft in increasing their deficit. If we were to be the good guys to them and promise not to spoil the party...what chance we obtaining pick four? What would be be prepared to give up? Our next year's first might get the job done?

😂

Lukeparkerno1 Indicated that reports suggest kemp’s recovery is advanced and will be right to go early rounds. Good enough for me. The usual recovery is 6 mths plus so given it occurred in July and 18 yo bodies recover quicker then he ought be very close on that timeline

Lots of ifs - simply conjecture, that if this happens then what transpires? It does change the vibe when the what if scenario is positive compared to being negative.

Draft central seems to indicate he’s consistent without being truly outstanding.
From what I've see he's got clean hands below his knees, makes good and quick decisions, has a good burst of speed, wide frame, decent kick, tackles & accumulates.

At 180cm you will never turn him into a Fyfe / Martin / Kennedy un-tackle-able inside superstar type, but strip some baby fat off him and add some muscle and will be a very handy player imo.

Kemp has more upside than Gould. More skilful, gets up and back. Higher ceiling. Maybe not enough to take at 5 but if they are both there at our second pick (whatever it is) I would hope we went Kemp.
It would be an unbelievable result if Kemp was still there at our second pick. The important word there is unbelievable.
He will be gone by around 11 - 13.

I dont have any specific preferences other than a good inside mid which I am sure we will get. I am completely relaxed regarding our selections. I have complete faith in our recruiters and have absolutely no doubt that we will come away with at least 2 very good kids in our first 4 picks who will go on to have big careers.

The beers are on ice, this will be an enjoyable 2 days.

That’s my thinking although wouldn’t be against a true inside at our 3rd (there’s plenty!), and use our second with a future to get another first and grab a slider like Kemp

A faster Worpel who can actually kick then. :thumbsupemoji:
