Great interview, if we let him get away we are the dumbest club in history, screw Liddle he can take a long walk off a very short pier if he wants to mess with my man SOS we can not afford to let the best in the business go.
if he doesn’t go to another club, i think i’ll be okay with it, but if he goes to a club like the dogs or any of the WA teams i’ll be a little scared tbh

Basically our Max King but a hell of a lot cheaper! Rehab him and let him have 4-5 games in the vfl late in the year.
he can't go near our vfl team - it's no place for footballers.........

Yeah SOS didn’t look happy for a while there when he was talking with Teague but then the big smile came on the dial when we locked in Philp.

Some on this board were saying that we traded to pick 20 for de Koning. Not sure we would do that with our current crop of tall defenders. Surely Philp was the one SOS wanted all along, and must have had intel that Richmond were keen on him.

Can you imagine SOS's xmas tree?

Underneath are three envelopes, with his boys' names on them. Each has a message inside.

Jack: You can have your standard present this year. OR you can have an extra present. But then you have to swap presents with Ben next year. You are expected to get a better present than Ben next year.

Ben: You can have a $100 present. OR you can have a $200 toy that is broken. There is no guarantee the toy can be fixed.

Tom: You can have four presents instead of one this year. BUT in exchange you need to subsidise Jack and Ben's pocket money next year.

You forgot SOS’s daughter.

:p

says a lot about how you play the cards as they fall. Tried to trade up, once team trying to trade with lost their player, trade up falls through. once players we wanted to trade gone we traded down. Had a player in mind in Kemp, gambled that we could get him cheaper than our pick so we double up. Get Kemp and get a free hit with Philp. Know others on here had others ahead of Philp. I'm no expert but trust sos in his early pickings, hope we got a rough diamond. Either way would have been happy with Kemp at pick 9.

very exciting that our first pick in the draft won’t most likely play a game in his first year ( can’t remember the last time that happened) shows we have proper depth now, thylacine60 in fact, isn’t there a thread for depth somewhere on this board?
Charlie had glandular fever and a knee injury in his first year.....big Harry had stress fractures in his back that also kept him out for extended periods in 2016.

Kemp will miss most of the season, but will be an important cog in our success for the next decade....he's not just a short term option to plug holes, he'll be a ripper!!

A bit like Selwood, would have been a lot higher in the draft if he didn't come in with an injury.

if he becomes half the player of selwood i’d be over the moon, do you know if he has leadership qualities?

I stopped watching after our first pick as that was painful viewing and I thought we were done for the night. Can anyone tell me what we gave with 22 to get 20? Useless article on the afl site says 25, which would be both impossible due to not having it and a huge piece of overpaying. Bloody sos, did the same thing last year and missed us taking stocker.

On Philp, the upside is really obvious for everyone to see. He's a yard quicker over 20m than pretty much every other midfielder in the draft. His combine was sensational:
  • 1st in 20m sprint test recording 2.867 seconds (think Jack Petrucelle quick)
  • Equal 5th vertical jump recording 69cm
  • Equal 5th on yo-yo test recording 21.5
Most importantly, he knows how to win his own ball and was racking up some decent numbers in the NAB league.

He's a real point of difference player. No doubt his draft combine results made him rocket up the draft board.
And he showed how he recovers from being knocked down, when he missed Metro selection went on to have probably the best second half of the year of anyone, that’s resilience right there.

Anyone got a list of players that got injured in there draft yr or didn't play much footy in there first yr
ie J Selwood, N Riewoldt, P Cripps that turned at to be guns just as reassurance to those having meltdown over taking Kemp
Dangerfield didn’t play his first year after being drafted as he was doing year 12.
