Given that we have traded away a lot of our late picks next year, it suggests we will use those first round picks next year. And try go for a FA next year. That would be by far the smartest strategy to stick to.

If we need to get a ready made midfielder at the trade table, we could probably dangle a first round pick for an up and coming player with a later pick back to us, like late 2nd rounder, or early 3rd rounder.
Totally agree. Reckon Brad Crouch will be the one big FA target and then get the best of the uncompromised talent in a shallow draft. Forwards tonight to allow Parfitt Narkle Cockatoo to play more midfield. Archie Smith and a mid with speed and all in all a great position.

Well here's how I'm choosing to view trade and draft as a whole (as I see it):

OUT: T. Kelly, Future 3rd (Geel.), Future 3rd (GC), Smith, Pick 41 (hypothetical swap, given Taheny's projected status), Pick 58, Pick 63, Future 4th
IN: Steven, Jenkins, C. Stephens, S. De Koning, Taheny, Evans, Future 2020 1st: Pick 11 GC , Future 2020 WC 1st: 14-18

Our 2019 draft can also be looked at like this:

Pick 16 - Cooper Stephens, player that the reigning premiers wanted
Pick 19 - Sam De Koning, player that many wanted - best tall behind McAsey
Pick 27 - Taheny (where he should have gone, given his scope and all draft predictions) - (hypothetical swap, given Taheny's projected status)
Pick 50 - Evans
Future 1st, Pick 11

**********

If we can pick up someone like a Sokol or Partington tomorrow, or one of our own guns from our VFL/local side/s, then there is no-one who could complain about that (I'm sure the usual suspects will though). Missing Kemp and Robertson is a tad annoying (Robertson, me thinks that Geelong have had a gutful of dealing with West Coast and 'go home' status, so I'm fine with it now), but to trade up from Pick 27, to Pick 11 AND another pick, that was then used to be on traded to get Taheny, is magic. I also love that Jarvis, Kennerley and Taheny are all mates, so we're building a little crew there, haha.

A few ups and downs, and a few different players I would have taken (Riccardi instead of Evans for mine), but overall, I'm very happy with Stephens and Taheny, and SDK has huge upside in the future. Hopefully we nail our rookie picks with some gems, and that'll be another solid draft to go with Kreuger, Kennerley, Atkins and Clark from last year.

BRING ON 2020!!
Hope is back!

We won't get Archie Smith in rookie, Lions are committing to him with their first round rookie pick apparently and they go ahead of us... have to see.

I prefer to spread that, rather than put everyone in a constant state of despair and melancholy (like some). People seem to forget that we only expected to get 14, 24 and a Future 1st (at a max - a lot thought it would only be 14 and 24, from both sides) from WC. We ended up with 37 AS WELL. We then turned that pick 24 into a Pick 11...so essentially traded TK and a Future 2020 3rd, for Pick 14, Pick 37, Future 1st WC - Pick 14-18, and Future 1st GC - Pick 11...Yet still some complain.

3 1st rounders, and Pick 37, as an outcome from losing one player that we drafted at 24 not two years earlier...Man people need some perspective.

Ahhhh, nice trade with Gold Coast for you guys. Even though it will get pushed back several spots one would assume at this stage, it's still is a nice asset that Wells should be able to do plenty with one way or another.

Still wondering wtf actually happened there. Steal with a sweetener added
Locked in at 11 hence the 0 category

Very tactical this draft - no ‘next best available’ but going on likely retirement timetable-
Stephens for Selwood
De Koning for Taylor
Taheny for Dahlhaus
Possibly Frances for Duncan.

First with contested grunt. Last two with speed, foot skills, marking ability and goal kicking. Frances is indeed puzzling at 41 but it wouldn’t be a ND without a Well’s left fielder.

Next year a bundle of 1sts to bargain for another key mid or a key forward.

Ruck is now the standout massive weakness on our list - not sure a rookie is going to fix this.

I prefer to trace it back to the source:

We have more or less obtained:
2x 2020 1sts
Cooper Stephens
3 years of Gary Ablett Jnr
2 years of Tim Kelly
1-2 years of Josh Jenkins

In exchange for:
A handful of late picks
Letting Steven Motlop walk his salary right onto Ports books

And they say Wells doesn't know what he's doing

Chuck Jack Steven in there for 2-3 years as well, for Z Smith, for good measure

Yeah but the AFl may come out and go na sorry it was only category 0 for Suns not you (would you really be shocked) lol
How would they calculate it's spot in the order? It's tied to the suns so if they unlock the position it becomes the pick after theirs? They can change it to a top 4 if they want i won't have any issues

Was trying to lock it down to turning Motlop into gold. Plus Steven coming to us isn't something I'd feel great gloating about. It wasn't a great position for the suns.

Eh. They poached Abbott from us, so I'm not as forthcoming to them at the moment, haha.

Would love that as well but knowing those ****s they could go na sorry it is now end of round 1

i am very pessimistic when it comes to the AFl with good reason i would say

Fair gap in quality between the two. Still, he gave them 12 years I think? He was a year from free agency and wanted out. It's not like he's in incredible shape. I half think Coop is closer to running out in the hoops
