I wouldn't worry about CCJ.

There is a reason he could be quite valuable to the list structurally. In a way the stars could be aligning for him at RFC its just hard for some to see yet

May not be able to see it but this list has the capability to do freak things and if he is smart about it there is a definitive role for him to with his versatility

I believe Carlton made them burn there picks/points by bidding on an earlier academy player.. Maybe They didn't have the points to match with out going into deficit ...they possibly thought that no one would of investigated these guys to much and would just be able to take them

So the plan seems to have been to draft young mids that we can develop into the players that will replace Cotch, Titch etc in three or so years. I just love this Club's commitment to a long term strategic process.

Martyn is understandable as they got Deven Robertson who is very similar player. They also have Ely Smith so the need for an accumulating inside mid isn't a necessity for them. Cumberland is an interesting one though. Thought they could have used a half forward with pace and loves the tackle.

The 9 oldest players on our list are all superstars. Who would have thought that 5 years ago. Should really be contending for premierships for at least 2-3 more years just on those guys alone

He excites me the most out of all the draftees, he just looks like a powerful athlete, hard as nails, tackles, deceptively fast.... he is the prototype for our game style.

The way I see it is as follows

I think Dodoro screwed them hard and we exploited an opportunity to really shove the knife in.

Getting a bid at 37 on Coleman was way earlier than they anticipated. This means they had to use all their picks except the one they had reserved for the west Australian ,Prior, this may be to help appease the bloke they traded up to pick 22 for, Robertson who is another W.A boy who is considered a big flight risk. They may of expected a bid 10 draft picks later, so they used all their points for Coleman and exposed their other academy players to being poached. They assumed that these guys at worst could be just added as rookies. If they had reserved a couple of picks in the 50s they would have had enough points to keep both boys

In any case we must have ranked Martin , their captain and MVP, and Cumberland who was good enough to play 5 games in their premiership winning NEAFL side very highly . If these two boys make it, and there is no need to doubt our recruiting team, and they suit our game plan perfectly, we will be the most despised AFL club in the league by far.

Dodoro actually did something good for once in his life, problem is, it was for us, not the bombers.

I can't believe St Kilda didn't match on Biggie, instead using the pick on a 181cm outside rebounding defender type, of which there are dozens every year. I reckon Biggie is going to make them look stupid.

I don't recall posters pumping for Cripps prior to the draft. I could be wrong. Anyway, we have a different team now. Matt Clarke's in charge and is more systematic and methodical than FJ. With the hand we had we have picked a group of players with attributes we rate highly.

If CJ was such a crybaby go-home sook, he wouldn't have signed a contract extension. I see him getting games next year and ending his career as one of Richmond's greatest ruckmen.

Similar. We tried to flush Brisbane's last pick with the Cumberland bid, keen enough to have him, but keener on Martyn, and threw it out there to put the pressure on Brisbane, after, as you say they dropped picks on Coleman much earlier than expected. Also Deven Robertson and Martyn are too similar at this point in terms of position size and development, had it covered and really needed an interceptor defender - hence their pick in Prior. I wonder how close Prior was to going to Freo as a Rookie, with his father there on the coaching panel? Little twists and turns can make a huge difference sometimes.
