Combined sides based on ladder positions

living in the past, poor little chap

care to wager when the blues will next make the 8?
maybe when you'll win number 17? or will you be on the pension by then?
it's a little harder to cheat the salary cap and buy flags these days, so if curnow, walsh & cripps don't bring you a flag it'll be 30 years since your last....and then what number rebuild will you be on?

No I'm living in the now. That's how memories work. They still exist in the present.

Five minutes, five days, five years. All memories of the past.

Well it's factually correct that we are closer to winning 17 than you.

So given your old age you'll never see a flag 17, I on the other hand have a far better chance to see it happen.

^I reckon the Blues make the eight in 2021 and I wouldn't be surprised if the show a bit this year aswell.

Listening to SEN this morning they were talking about how many players from 2 sides would go into one, for example if you combined Collingwood and Hawthorn what the team would look like.
This got me thinking if we combined 2 sides but sorted the order according to finishing positions in2019.
For example Richmond who finished 1st combined with Gold Coast who finished last.
Giants 2nd with Melbourne 17th
Geelong 3rd with Carlton 16th
Collingwood 4th with Sydney 15th
Brisbane 5th with St.kilda 14th
West Coast 6th with Fremantle 13th
Bulldogs 7th with North 12th
Essendon 8th with Adelaide 11th
Hawthorn 9th with Port Adelaide 10th

Of these combos who makes the strongest side? At a glance I’d say the giants and Melbourne would be a very strong looking team especially with Gawn taking number 1 ruck that the giants are desperately lacking.
Just looking at a combined Richmond Suns side it’s hard to find many Suns players that would make the side however I’ll give it a go.

Richmond/Gold Coast
B - grimes (rich) astbury(rich) vlaustin (rich)
HB - houli (rich) rance (rich) short (rich)
C - Pickett (rich) Prestia (rich) Caddy (rich)
HF - Lambert (rich) Riewoldt (rich) Stack (rich)
FF - Castagna (rich) Lynch (rich) Rioli (rich)
R - Nankervis (rich) Martin (rich) Cotchin (rich)
I - Graham (rich) Soldo (rich) Bolton (rich) Ellis (Suns)

Be interested to see everyone’s sides and the differences with the players selected depending on which set of supporters are putting the team together.

Hey, well done, you got Caddy, Prestia and Lynch into the starting 18.

Win one with 18 teams in the comp champ. 1995... It’s a while ago now.... hell even the last time you defeated us is a while ago now... you join the lions and bombers as just another one of our bunnies.

I didn't think Howe was that good. No idea about Crisp. Also Dawson was bloody good in 2019, easily one of the Swans most attacking weapons.

Feel free to change the team though, as I don't have a monopoly on knowledge and am more than willing to admit to being wrong sometimes.
if crisp was a $50 T-Bone, Dawson would be a $2 Maccas Cheeseburger
Howe definitely gets a spot
Get rid of Cox id rather mihocek or sam reid

overall though its pretty good and i agree, would be nice to have de goey alongside franklin lol imagine

This is my Brisbane/ St Kilda side

Very lethal side

B: Grant Birchall (BL), Jake Carlisle (SK), Harris Andrews (BL)

HB: Alex Witherden (BL), Dougal Howard (SK), Jarryn Geary (C) (SK)

C: Brad Hill (SK), Jack Steele (SK), Jack Billings (SK)

HF: Jade Gresham (SK), Tim Membrey (SK), Eric Hipwood (BL)

F: Charlie Cameron (BL), Max King (SK), Paddy Ryder (SK)

FOLL: Rowan Marshall (SK), Lachie Neale (BL), Seb Ross (SK)

INTERCHANGE: Stef Martin (BL), Dayne Zorko (VC) (BL), Zak Jones (SK), Dan Hannebery (SK).

Love that you've found a spot for Max King (0 senior games) but couldn't find one for Champion Data's number 1 wing in the comp and AA squad member Hugh McCluggage, Jarryd Lyons, Mitch Robbo or Darcy Gardiner. Also weird to have 3 rucks in the team - Marshall is the obvious solo ruck here.

Witts, Weller, Fiorini, Sexton, Swallow and potentially Miller and Rankine would get games at Richmond.

No sides 22nd player is better than another sides 1-5. Not at any AFL club.

But not all 22 players play in the same position/role, so it is possible to combine 2 teams and get a best 22 consisting only of 1 teams players.

Based on rules in OP and final positions on the ladder of 2018. I will use starting 22 from both sides round 23, 2018.
Hawthorn 9th/Port Adelaide 10th

B: Stratton (Hawks), Frawley (Hawks), Burton (Port)
HB: Jonas (Port), Sicily (Hawks), Burgoyne (Hawks)
C: Henderson (Hawks), Mitchell (Hawks), Smith (Hawks)
HF: Wingard (Hawks), Dixon (Port), Boak (Port)
F: R Gray (Port), Gunston (Hawks), Breust (Hawks)
R: McEvoy (Hawks), O'Meara (Hawks), Wines (Port)
Int: Worpel (Hawks), Rozee (Port), Hardwick (Hawks), (No idea for 4th interchange? probably Duursma, Shiels or Hartlett)

Interestingly, 3 players have played for both teams (Wingard, Burgoyne and Burton)
Had a rough shot at it, Port and Hawks fans, comments/additions/substitutions??

Bulldogs/North would be the most lop sided, other than BB and a couple of up and comers you'd pretty much just have the Bulldogs filling 18 out of best 22 spots i reckon.
Really? Just off the top of my head the following would be guaranteed starting 18 in a North/WB joint team.
Brown
Tarrant
Cunnington
Higgins
Goldstein
Larkey

I reckon it'd be pretty much 50/50, one of the more balanced teams tbh.

Who would you drop for Cunners and Higgo out of the Doggies mids?

I'd have Bont, Macrae and Dunkley in the mids/wings.

Probably something like below:
C: Dunkley / Cunnington / Higgins
FOLL: Goldstein / Bont / Macrae

I can't think of any other dogs mids I'd have in over Cunnington and Higgins.

Hunter is a jet on the outside, also think Ed Richards on the wing works better than an old Higgins, Dunk, Macrae, Bont, Higgins, Cunners is too much inside grunt, Bont can play mid/fwd maybe Higgo plays mid/def? Need better team balance.

Didn't Higgins play off of HB at the Kennel? He is a pretty good ball users from memory.

I don't think there would be many fans out there that rate Hunter or Richards over Higgins, including dogs fans. They may be younger but at the moment are definitely not at his level.

I also don't think the mid group would be too inside heavy, I reckon Bont and Macrae would love Cunnington in and under the pack to get them free on the outside.

Docherty Blicavs Plowman
Stewart Weitering Marchbank

Kruezer Dangerfield Cripps
Selwood Curnow Duncan

Curnow McKay Murphy
Ablett Hawkins Dahlhaus

Guthrie Walsh Petrevski-Seton Simpson

Cant see Walters or Pearce as walk-up starts TBH. IMHO neither cracks West Coast's forwardline if all available players are fit, and I could only see Walters making the midfield if you want to move on someone line Redden (which I wouldn't).

The rest are various flavours of Original Potato Chip. Do not want.
Is this a joke?

Walter would be in the top handful of players in a combined team.
