Can find the ball which puts him ahead of a few of the boys we have drafted last few years happy to add him to fridge and Ross and see him team up with rcd in the twos

Will be interesting to see how he goes letโ€™s be honest will always be compared to Bianco and other players who were rated higher on the draft boards but Richmond clearly rates the lions academy we took chol from there now these two kids and we also tried to steal hipwood
Have a look at the extended highlights vids of Dow, Cumberland and Martyn. The similar trait they all have is the intent of hunting the ball and man in tight. Whether itโ€™s winning the ball in traffic and either dishing out or accelerating through, or tackling the opposition, itโ€™s a trait our recruiters were specifically recruiting for. Fair to say Bianco may end up a better ball user and do well at the Pies, but didnโ€™t possess the traits that our recruiters put a premium on.

Agree...this young kid hits the ball carrier like an octopus...nothing gets out once he has you lined up...very cotchin like...
Then the handballs like shedda...
Your right the recruiters are after certain young footy characteristics...well after winning the GF they had no option!
Could be anything after being a couple of years in our system and with our stars teaching them...

Get the feeling that heโ€™s flown under the radar a bit due to playing on a poor Brisbane Academy team and sides assuming that Lions weโ€™re going to take him so why bother putting work into him. Looks clean as, can accumulate and lays a fierce tackle. Only seen the highlights, but looks bloody great

Dunno bout that, but you're right in what you see in him.

Brisbane Lions

The Brisbane Lions are the 2019 NEAFL premiers after a 76-point victory over reigning champions Southport gave the Lions a flawless 20-win, zero loss season.

One of the good things about drafting Martyn and Cumberland is that they'll move to Melbourne together, so they should find the transition a bit easier.

The new Butler/Castagna Marcon/Lambert

Interesting pick got a bit of Simon Black about him.Kicks on both sides to.
Yep, said that a page back, glad someone else recognises the traits as well, thought it might just be wishful thinking on my part, the way he sets up and gets balanced to handball, and his short pass set ups well. He's a smart user.

A lot of the highlights seem to have come from the GWS Academy v Brisbane Academy game back in February this year. You can watch it all here, the good and the ordinary:

You'll need to be patient, the 1st Qtr was all GWS with Brisbane wasteful. The Lions get a roll on in the 2nd and takes a while for the commentators to identify play and players at times. Martyn has a terrific 2nd term after Tom Greene dominated in the first term. Cumberland does some nice things too. While you are there check out Liam Delahunty (no26) for GWS. He injects himself and owns the game at times. How he wasn't drafted, who knows? Could be range of attitudinal things?????? But he sure can play.

Good interview with Luke Power about the strategy of the Academy groups

Im hopeful for the kid but he seems to lack speed. Im worried, when a player lacks speed they struggle in AFL level footy. Corey Ellis a prime example. Hope Im wrong.

Yes doesn't look quick and the Corey Ellis comparison may be a fair one, but he looks a stronger build and looks to have a quicker step, Ellis had the turning circle of the Queen Mary. So you don't have to be a speedster if you're strong over the ball and a good distributor, the Simon Black comparison may be a wee premature however.
