Geelong's extraordinary AFL pitch revealed
a8a9cd3da4d5541f122dc834c31eba25

James McKern
Geelong head into the AFL 2019 Draft fully loaded with two first round picks and two second round picks, but they only came around after a stunning pitch to the AFL was squashed.
As the Cats attempted to keep wantaway star Tim Kelly, the club did everything they could to retain his services and keep the star's family comfortable.
In the end it involved a pitch to the head office asking for financial allowance outside of the salary cap.
“We did (everything we could). It certainly was up there. We might have missed 1 or 2 per cent here and there, who knows?” Geelong CEO Brian Cook told SEN on Wednesday.

“But one of the issues for us, was to do what we needed to do to make sure it was extremely comfortable for the Kelly family, was near impossible in the end.
“It would have needed the parents to come over, all sorts of assistance around the home, all of those things. We helped in those areas.
“We went to the AFL and asked for some extra help in terms of money outside the TPP because these things cost money, and the AFL knocked us back. So it made it really hard for us to do 100 per cent what we wanted. We nearly got there but we couldn’t.”
but it was in the interest of the AFL and footy Brian said originally.

cannot believe more hasn’t been made of this.

FWIW I have no issue with them attempting to do this but with them trying to frame it as good for Footy.
Apparently Richmond and a few other clubs had been pushing for this for a while, Geelong only come on board as they needed it for Kelly.

Amateurs!!

As far as I aware we’ve been pushing for mental health services not to be counted in the cap. This was extra money to move over Kelly’s partners parents to help the kids

It's really now or never for sus's carlscum...all their collective hopes are riding on a Team of lots of first round picks carried on cripples's back!
All those great pictures of young hopeful draft picks, membership drives...
What about all the other stuff that makes a very good side...oh yeah! ...never change carlscum, never change...

Wow, all these bottom dwellers are going to improve outa sight ( dees, saints, blues, freo, suns, swans ), question is who from the middle six are they going to replace because they wont be replacing any of the top six.

And from the middle 6 i can't see any replacing the bulldogs, so that leaves one top 8 spot open for apparently 11 teams.

At least four of dees, saints, blues, freo, swans and suns will remain in the bottom 6 with at least three finishing 16-18.
