Wow, Collingwood 1 and 14 in 2010 (with Pendles, Beams, Sidebottom, Cloke, Reid and Daisy all 23 or under) and they only won one flag!

Mick must be spitting chips at getting the ass there when they could have been starting a "dynasty", and having watched Bucks dismantle that team.

The irony of a St.Kilda fan talking about only winning 1 flag amuses the hell out of me.

Geelong certainly has the most, but most of them aren't actually particularly good anyway and some wouldn't be getting a game at a lot of clubs (no-one else wanted Jenkins, Geelong didn't even want Henderson, and most clubs have a better ruck than Stanley)

Pretty much. Hawkins and Danger are the two big ones we need to find replacements for. I would not consider Selwood an elite mid anymore, I think he was pretty lucky we sat on the top of the ladder for most of the year, if he played for Melbourne instead he would have been crushed by the media on last years form. With no Kelly it will be highlighted next year for sure.

Went for Adelaide myself, given their constant downwards spiral since the 2017 GF.

Geelong have not really gone into decline, and got a trove of picks thanks to the Kelly trade and that juicy pick swap with The Suns.

Assuming Wells can nail most of those picks, Geelong will be fine, although I think they used their picks last week for the long term in mind, which is fine, but Cats fans will have to be patient,..

Burgoyne 37.2, Puopolo 33.0, Henderson 31.3, Frawley 31.3, Smith 31.0, Stratton 30.9, McEvoy 30.4, Breust 29.1

I'd put forward these players as the likely replacements once our veterans move on

Breust/Puopolo: replaced by Ross/Walker/Moore

Frawley: replaced by Frost/Hartley/Koschitzke

Stratton: replaced by Scrimshaw/Jiath

Hendo/Smith replaced by Golds/Day/Greaves

Burgoyne doesn't have a position that necessarily needs replacing

the one on this list that is going to be the hardest to replace is Mcevoy, considering we've only got 1 young ruckman on the list in Reeves. Wouldn't be surprised to see us trade in a ruckman in the next couple years.

once those guy leave, only shiels and gunston left from the 2015 grand final. So 12 have been replaced already in four years. Clubs not going to lose sleep over another eight.

Don’t really see Hawthon’s situation as overly problematic. Only Breust and McEvoy are playing at high enough level that you’d be concerned about replacing them.

Although surprised the Hawks didn’t grab Newnes as a specialist wingman with good disposal and plenty of footy ahead of him. Would slide in perfectly to replace Henderson and Smith in 2021

Sydney will struggle to replace buddy, Rampe, Sinclair and Kennedy

That list will go full rebuild soon

Cats also with Selwood Ablett danger Hawkins Taylor etc

Sydney are already preparing for this.

Heeney, Blakey, Hayward, Florent, McCartin, Mills, Papley, some great picks this season...

Like what they’re doing.

Swans have got plenty of good kids, the biggest issue for them is probably Longmire, might be time for a fresh face/voice up there.

Who comes in ready to replace buddy, rampe, Kennedy, Sinclair in say 2-3 years time

Maybe Gould for rampe
Stephens for kennedy
What about Sinclair and buddy

Geez, some people can't seem to get this is a discussion forum - make a cogent argument rather than just bleat about the OP.

For GWS, I'm happy with our position in replacing ageing players.

GWS (8)
Shaw 34.1, Mumford 33.5, Jacobs 31.8, Reid 30.1, De Boer 29.9, Ward 29.8, Keefe 29.8, Davis 29.4
Hately 19.2, Hill 19.10, Taylor 20.7, Daniels 20.9, Perryman 21.0, Cumming 21.4, Taranto 21.11, Hopper 22.10

Of the older players, 4 are 29, 4 above 30 so depending on where their dropoff actually comes, the career stagger is fine; not all are first 22; almost all have younger players drafted to replace them in future (some fit the OP's criteria, others such as Lachlan Ash just drafted to replace Heater don't). Realistically, only the ruck situation remains (as it has been for a few years now!) problematic; Jacobs is on that list as an interim replacement for Mumford - we do have two younger rucks (neither fitting the OP's criteria) in the development pool so we're OK providing one of them actually does progress to being first grade quality. We'll see that in the next two years.

Looking at the other teams, I think Geelong's youth actually isn't as bad as some think; perhaps Collingwood might have less quality youth coming through. But I don't think too many teams are in a position where they fall off a cliff purely due to the age of its list TBH.

Good question

Carltons list profile is interesting -they have a fair bit of quality youth but seem a bit lean in the bracket below their over 29's. IMO will need to bring in a few players in their mid 20's to balance out the list and pick up the slack when 5 very good established players finish up.

Personally I think the hawks have gone through the worst of it in the previous several years and theyve come through it well enough. Apart from a couple of names, they shouldnt have too many issues replacing those on the list

The kids improve to become elite. Hopefully. Then they’ve got to fill the bottom half of the 22.

Gee whizzz...of the 9 ageing Cats, there is only 1 that would get a game at my club or Tiges, and on the other side, all Tiges oldies and 3 Pies would walk into the Cats side.

They will be slipping soon enough. Real poor decisions recently, getting back a clapped out Ablett unable to kick over a toaster, and now Jenkins who hangs out at the outer edges of the seagull flock waiting for a chip. He and Rowan will be fighting over the batter dregs this year. Tuohy is not suited to the modern game. Harry has been a great great player, but gone now. Etc etc.

The 29ers should be very good players still, in the Cats case, they are mostly swarf.

Richmond supporters are kidding themselves to think that their youth will replace the likes of Cotchin, Rance, Jack, Houli and Edwards. Their group of youngsters are overrated and ordinary. Once the oldies mentioned above drop off which is just around the corner for many of them (Cotchin is already showing it) the Tigers will struggle to make finals.

Dangerous times for Cats, Eagles and Pies.

Hawks are not in danger when it’s oldies call it quits. Most of the improvement towards the end of the year was on the back of its younger players and in the B&F 4 of the top 6 were 24yo and under.

I think in a few years time you will see Gould and Stephens/Rowbottom replace Rampe and Kennedy like you said, but our forward line will have Blakey and McCartin as talls, with Hayward, Ronke and perhaps both Taylors in there too. It won't be as strong without Buddy for sure, but I think Blakey, McCartin and possibly Reid as a 3rd tall is still a pretty good forward line.

Sinclair is the problem though as we don't have anyone to replace him.

Do the people voting for Geelong take into account the draft capital they currently hold or are they just voting blind hoping they will go away?

Geelong's problem with aging players is that it keeps picking some of them and giving them contracts even when they're clearly past it. Taylor isn't just a shadow of his former self, he's a shadow of an AFL player.

Dangerfield, Hawkins, Stevens and Ablett would all get a game at Collingwood.
