Missing most of preseason is never a good sign, those players tend to not have strong years.

Still, better to be now then later. If they really need too they can hold him back for 4-6weeks at the start of the year and give him a delayed preseason before putting him in.

It'll be easier for a defender to get his fitness back up. He's not expected to do the kms the guys in the middle do after all.

Midfielders loosing K's in their legs during the pre-season is where it hurts.

From memory last year Yeo, Sheed & Shuey all didn't start till the new year and this time all three were in the time trial. Sheed was in the top 5 which is great as he has lacked a tank in the past and should be primed for a wing role.

Did Sheed lack the tank or just not run as hard both ways as he should have? Least we know he has the tank now

Dom was infuriating with his lack of vigor in running defensively last year. The number of times he let his man run straight past him and get involved in a scoring chai...SMFH just thinking about it. I'm not sure that s**t would have stood under Mitchell's watch.

The draft prospects for 2020 training at Eagles

West Coast: Nathan O'Driscoll, Heath Chapman, Blake Morris, Logan McDonald, Zane Trew

Nathan O’Driscoll (Perth) – defender 183/76
Gets involved in the games and has genuine ability to get away from the contests. At this stage, best suited to half back or defensive mid. That said, he will take the next step in 2020 and I hope to see more of him in Perth’s midfield (maybe outside to start). His speed and kicking skills would suit our current profile.

Heath Chapman (West Perth) 193/75
Tall defender and loved marking the football. Well suited to play the intercept mark who is athletic, decent as well below his knees and decent decision making when coming out of defence.

Blake Morris (Subiaco) 188/80
The U16 WA MVP which shows he knows how to play and he is consistent. A medium-sized defender who has the ability to shut his direct opponent out of the game while also providing adequate rebound. Only played a couple of colts games this year so will be interesting to see how he progresses.

Logan McDonald (Perth) 192/84
As a tall forward, he will attract a premium in the draft. He averaged just under 2 goals a game in Colts and his bag of 6 against Vic Metro (U16 in 2018) will have the Victorian clubs chasing him hard. Has pretty good overhead skills and is clean below his knees. Like the lead up forward role.

Zane Trew (Swan Districts) 184/81
An inside midfielder who eats up contest football for breakfast (high tackle counts) and gets a lot of the ball (very good at winning his own ball). Good in traffic, quick by hand and pretty decent leaving the contest. His decision making for a bottom-age was impressive and he takes time to look and choose options before he kicks. I love his attributes which probably means he is too much of an inside competitor for O'Brien.

With the Cockburners:

Joel Western (Claremont live-wire and unfortunately tied to Freo NGA)
Jack Carroll (East Fremantle utility from JK's back yard)
Brandon Walker (defender possible R2 and I'd like to see in East Freo midfield for a turn)
Shannon Neale (South Fremantle ruckman at 198 already)
Denver Grainer-Barass (Swan Districts KPD and likely to go 1st round)

These two are very good footballers.

in particular I like McDonald's footy IQ, he should grow a few cm and if he does he may well end up a late first / early second rounder.

Bit of both but prior to last season it was very average. He would legit hit a wall at 3qt time.

after last season?
Speaking of party tricks in a player..anyone recall Rioli going to ground in a pocket with what looked like a dropped mark, his hand appears with the ball spinning on his finger a la basketball? was that my imagination or a superbly arrogant party trick?
What a silly post!! of COURSE it was arrogant. We are the West Coast Eagles after all!!
