Perth stadium claims more victims. Ground harder than the cricket pitch. Really!

Skin cancer, Christmas Parties, wrong time.... Any other factors? Maybe someone stubbed their toe?
Yet everyone brings up the heat as an issue as to why Darwin can't get a team?

How about cricket just has shithouse support? We certainly don't have these issues with the football or even state of origin. So it might not purely be a WA thing.

Plus people don't go on weekdays, and why would they. You're two examples you said elsewhere are literally public holidays (Boxing and GF),

Mind you I don't want the GF in Perth it's more that the grand final is played on your home ground. As fanciful as it might be, a setup like Wembley in England would be more fair. But unfortunately we are simply too poor as a sport or nation for that to be viable.

The stadium is world class.

The playing surface is not.

Dont throw the baby out with the bath water!

How can it be world class if it's main source of revenue is from having a fast, contact sport played on it? Having a sub standard playing surface would render it below world class. Who cares if the shitters smell nice?

Heatwave keeping crowds away - pleeeez. If thats the case its only ever been Perth issue. Huge crowds always turn up to the MCG, Adelaide and sydney irrespective of the summer temp.

Soft you lot. And to think you all wanted to host the boxing day test and Grand final! LMAO

Decent crowd numbers for a match starting on a working / school Thursday. Even Saturday was decent considering it was the third day in a row of 40+ temperatures. No one is dragging the kids out in that in the middle of the day.

another tick for the universally acknowledged best stadium in the world

[QUOTE="AstonSouffle, post: 63913366, member: 153243just admit you have to dress to your conditions and you can't bend nature to your will.

Why didn’t more people just dress to conditions and attend the game?

Are you one of those people who highlights problems but absolutely doesn't come up with solutions before they open their mouth.

Y'know the people that every workplace in the world hates?

They should just lay 50cm of soil over the grass and then returf. The level of the grass currently can rise about 50cm without affecting anything as the first row is well above the playing surface
Given that, "the Optus surface is hard and causes injuries" is now a thing, they could lay the surface with a foot of foam, and it wouldn't make any difference.

Grass can be fixed. And it needs to be fixed. Thats the point.

BTW is AFL its main income? 22 games a year plus bonus finals.

Very popular for big concerts and maybe thats part of the problem.

You seem to be focused on talking it down for some reason as a total failure which it isnt.

I would be surprised it it is that simple. Drainage etc.

Even so if they were to rework the foundation they would roll up the turf anyway and then relay it.

So pull up the turf, remove and replace sand with suitable soil blend and relay the turf.

Would cost tens of thousands and shut the stadium down for a month. Thats the problem

It's a failure at this point in time if the main reason for it's existence is as a sports stadium and the surface is sub-standard. If grass is all that's needed to be fixed, I would have thought the period between AFL seasons would have been the perfect opportunity to do so. Or have they already done it and they're still having the same problems.

Once the test is done, get it done. A bit of pain and inconvenience early in it's life to get it right.

“Tens of thousands” ... how much did the stadium cost to build?
