SF have lost some important players....Hams, Hockey, Cook, D'Olio, Parker and now Saunders.....they will be doing well to make the finals.....despite their depth.

Interesting to hear about Hampson joining Swan Districts. Fingers crossed it works out for them and Pickering.

Will monitor his transition with interest especially when they play the Sharks.

Michael Johnson has chosen to retire and isn’t playing for Perth this season.

Thats a disappointing decision.
I always like it when retired AFL players give a season or two back to the WAFL Club that gave them a chance at the big time.

According to Spalding on Sport FM last week he was definitely considering it.

The Demons gave him the time and space to make his call but ultimately he felt his body wouldn’t hold up.

Is welcome at the Dees in any capacity.

- East Perth are trying to bring Matthew Leuenberger back to the club after his retirement from the AFL last year after 137 games, 108 with Brisbane and 29 with Essendon. Leuenberger played six league matches with the Royals in 2006 before being drafted to Brisbane with pick six in the 2006 national draft. It's believed East Perth are in discussions with Leuenberger about playing in 2019 with his original intention being to play at amatuer or country level this year before the approach by the Royals.
- The WAFC will launch WAFLW this year with five clubs to take part in the inaugural season. Claremont, East Fremantle, Peel, Subiaco and Swan Districts will take part in the first season of the competition with South Fremantle granted a provisional license to join the competition in 2020. Optus will help fund the women's league, taking over as the naming sponsor of the men's and women's competition while West Coast Eagles will also partially fund the competition as well. It's believe the competition will begin in May with matches to be played at WAFL grounds. To accompany this, some Colts and Reserves matches will be moved to different days with the womens' games to be staged as a "curtinraiser" to some of the men's matches. The Grand Final to be staged on the WAFL preliminary final weekend as a televised double header with the men's preliminary final later in the day. The current women's competition, the West Australian Women's Football League will continue in its current two division format with the WAFC flagging that teams could have to earn their place in the WAFLW competition with a promotion/relegation system.
- West Coast approached Cyril Rioli to play for the Eagles in the WAFL in late 218. It followed a similar bid from South Fremantle for Rioli to play on a fly-in, fly-out basis from Darwin. Earlier in 2018, Hawthorn had contacted Rioli about playing in their 2018 finals series in the AFL.
- Subiaco have lost midfielder Chris Phelan to Victoria with the premiership player set to move to Melbourne for work. It's believed Phelan will also play football at Eastern Football League club Doncaster East with former teammate and Carlton player Simon White. The Lions have also announced that Leigh Kitchin will captain the club in 2019, taking over from Kyal Horsley.
- South Fremantle forward Ben Saunders has retired. Saunders is weighing up opportunities to play in the newly named Perth Football League (formerly WAAFL) or in the country with his former club Mount Barker interested in his services.
- Laine Rasmussen is back with West Perth after playing in an "A" grade premiership with Scarborough in the WAAFL (now Perth Football League) last season.
- Subiaco have also lost Adam Cockie with the premiership player and former Eagle heading to Moora in the Central Midlands Football League.
- Perth have signed Guy Langdon for 2019, recruiting the 195 cm utility from Dampier. Langdon is the older brother of GWS Giants' player, Zac Langdon.
- Claremont product Keifer Yu has retired and has moved back home to Broome to work with the Wirrpanda Foundation. Yu will also pull on the boots but is yet to decide which club he will play for in the West Kimberley Football League.
- Brenden Abbott has been granted indefinite leave by West Perth, putting his WAFL comeback in doubt. New recruit Abbott hasn't been in contact with the Falcons for several weeks and is believed to be dealing with some personal issues. It's believed the Falcons paid a $15,000 transfer fee to Claremont for his services.
- It has been rumoured that the AFL will launch a Reserves competition for the 2022 season with all 18 clubs to take part in the new second-tier league. The potential move would leave the WAFL facing major challenges should the new competition go ahead with the competition already accommodating the Eagles' standalone side for 2019.

Couple of good Peel Thunder youngsters in Fazioli and Tassone apparently heading off to Steel Blue and Shark Park respectively.....if true means Peel have lost a few of their good youngsters of late....pro's and cons to the alignment I guess

He has, but he was playing in the SWFL with South Bunbury last season. I wouldn't be holding out much hope of him being a VFL gamechanger.
Essendon don't really need him to be a game changer honestly. Just be a solid contributer.

Can merge this into 2020 if you like but 3 x ex VFL players have come across the Nullarbor.

Frank Anderson and Sam Fisher to Swan Districts from Northern Blues. Great signings for the Ducks with both players rumoured to be mid season draft prospects in 2019. Fingers crossed they can have a few years their.

Ex Carlton and Northern Blue Angus Schumacher has signed with East Perth. Lighter bodied and outside leaning but has a strong outside game
