I've been a long, long term Foxtel subscriber and have been watching Neroli since she first popped up on Fox Sports News way back in the day. She was an awesome presenter with a bubbly personality on camera and I became an instant fan. You could see she was going to become more than just a newsreader as time progressed. I like most people on here I assume, started to follow her on Instagram and Twitter (once they become what they are now)
One thing I started to notice on social media was, as she became more 'famous' at Fox Sports, she did come across as a little full of herself at times and very much a self-promoter. She was still a fantastic personality on camera, but I did start to wonder a few years ago what she might be like when the camera was turned off.
A few examples - when she was put on Fox Cricket last year, and all of a sudden, there were all these posts about how much she loved the game of cricket and how some of her earliest memories were watching cricket with her grandmother etc. Yet, up until last year, she had hardly posted about cricket at all. Fast forward to this year and of course, she isn't with Fox anymore, but there has not been one Twitter post about cricket. Now a true cricket fan like she claimed she was last year, might still post about cricket even if you didn't work for Fox anymore. Channel 7 shows it as well.....
Another example was every week religiously she would put something up about 'On the Mark' - fair enough, yet there was one particular week last year that she wasn't on the show, and surprise, surprise, there was nothing from Neroli that week promoting "On the Mark'.
It was much the same when she was on boundary duties during a game. Lots of posts about the particular game that she was at, a post about how it was always her dream to do boundary, however, if she wasn't apart of the coverage of other games, you would hear crickets from her (Freo aside). And of course, as has already been mentioned earlier in this thread, she was front and centre of several news reports when the Chris Gayle thing was going down - if you didn't know any better you would have sworn it was her and not Mel that actually had it happen. No way I am defending Gayle, but I thought the way Neroli carried on was not right either.
If you follow her on Twitter closely it also becomes pretty evident she is a hardcore socialist and feminist judging by many of the Tweets she 'likes' on there. Not that either of those matter one iota, however, I do think that many of her fans might be surprised if they ever ran into her down at a pub for a drink - she may not be the fun-loving girl next door you were expecting!
Putting all of the above aside, no one can argue that she wasn't amazing in front of the camera and you can see that with all the support she has got since the job at Fox fell through.
However, I do think that there must be much more to story as to why she got axed and I certainly don't believe for a second it was 'cost-cutting'. It will be interesting to see where she might end up and in what role and then I'll wait till the social media self-promotion bombing starts again.
In the meantime, I'll still enjoy her holiday pics
