Okay, I'll admit I'm bored.

Interested to hear your top five 'non-best-22' selections you'd like to see during the preseason series (whatever it is called this year), and/or 'non-traditional-positions'. Mine below.

1. Murphy. Got to give him a bank flank and let him have a go at it. We need greater contribution from some of these younger types as our list didn't go forwards over the trade period (in fact, losing Beams arguably sends us back if anything along with ageing of Mayne, Varcoe, Pendles, etc). He needs to demand a spot on a flank or wing, and the preseason games are where it starts.
2. Quaynor. As above, but he gets a pocket. To make room, we could move Maynard or Crisp to a wing or midfield. Give Quaynor the job to lock down on one of the dangerous small forwards from the opposition.
3. Keane. A bit of a speculative obviously, but I'd like to see him get some time (although only a bit) at full back in the preseason. Dunn and Roughead only have 1-2 years left each at best, and the cupboard is bare beyond them (Moore and Kelly injury prone). Let's see what he's got, or let's move him on.
4. De Goey majority in midfield. I do think he will spend 65-75% in the forwardline during the year, but I'd like to see him play predominantly full time midfield during the preseason. Elliott plays better deep when he gets space from De Goey, so it may end up strengthening our midfield (which is weak) without compromising our medium forwards (which are strong)
5. Stephenson to play attacking half back. I'd love to see what he could do with a whole field in front of him when he gets the ball and the licence to run. I know it won't happen during the season, but it could spark an instinct in him that would ultimately see him end up on a wing.

Yours?

Murphy - reckon he’ll tear it up this year if he can get a good run.
Tyler Brown - could become anything by all reports.
Wilson - same boat as Tyler.

I’d like to see Grundy spending brief stretches deep forward while Cox or whoever rucks — partly a strategy for wear and tear limitation, partly for a different avenue to goal, partly to throw opposition defences off balance.
De Goey to do as Dusty does— attend the centre bounces and then go forward, then roam.
Sier to lock down the midfield role that was his before Beams came back. The lack of his ball-winning capabilities really cost us at times this year.
Don’t know about Stevo to HB, although I can also imagine the havoc he could cause on the burst.

I really like this idea a lot, Googs is such a powerful player it makes a lot of sense to cash in on that power in the centre bounce where the amount of players around the ball is restricted. In addition to this I think we need to improve our stoppage work and work on Grundy's tap work, we need to take advantage of his ruck dominance.

I don't know if it does throw the opposition off balance, does it? The defender who was taking Cox would then just take Grundy when they swap. Everyone else stays the same.

Fair point as far as the match-up goes... I just think Grundy presents a different kind of challenge, with greater agility, pace and positional sense. The difference could be subtle but still real.

I'd like to see:

1 - Noble to the wing to inject some extra pace into that position and our midfield.
2 - Sier on ball at +70% time on ground.
3 - Keane at full back/centre half back to see if he's a legit option this season or if it's another development year.
4 - Quaynor at half back and given first crack at Aish's role.

IQ start to develop as a midfield tagger.
T Brown to come into the team and develop as a future wingman/midfielder.

Hopefully we get to see a little bit of Kelly and get a view on where he’s at.

lynch is the other id like to see to get a bit of a measure on.

I think Bianco could go past Josh quiet Quickly next year sadly

They play different positions. Bianco half back. Daicos half forward. Bianco needs to go past Quaynor, Noble, Appleby and Greenwood. That's a tougher task.

I think Bianco would break into the wing sooner than the backline. He is possibly a little outside at the moment for a backline role, but could get away with it on the wing. I expect that is where we will see him in the ressies (especially as we have a lot of depth in the med / small defender position). I do think he’s a fair way back though - and well behind josh daicos.

Bianco is a little speculative wing or defence. He has a lot of development ahead of him. Bianco and Daicos are also different conversations because they play different roles. I don't really see Daicos as a winger but even there he is behind a long list of players. Sidebottom, Phillips, Mayne, Noble. I also reckon Pendlebury will play a lot as a defensive side wing this year. Daicos would be ahead of but battling with guys like Rantall for that role on a wing as I see it. But I must admit I'm pretty down on Daicos as a prospect.
