West Coasters Flag Prospects 2020

Shat the bed in the last few rounds or run out of petrol after shouldering a massive travel load?

That's the challenge some teams need to rise to in order to win a flag.

Other teams get an arm chair ride travelling once in three months. That advantage was gifted to Richmond and they took full advantage. Good for them but let's not pretend it didn't exist.

That's the difference champ.

You call it sooking when really it's simply stating facts. How are facts sooking?

The AFL has done something to correct this in 2020 but it could do more to equalise the competition but it chooses not to because all it really cares about is $$$$$.

Two trips to WA and playing Geelong at home in Geelong isn't impossible is it? Not hard at all actually.

Enjoy the leg up while the list is good enough mate. Eagles will just keep on having a crack year in year out.

Call is what you like, fatigue from travel, shat the bed, choked ect..... We had our chances and did not capitalise on them. We need to get over the fact we travel more than every other team (except Freo), it is a national comp and we are on the far side of the country. If we want to be a part of the comp we need to not use the travel factor as an excuse, it is a factor no doubt, but it is a factor we have to live with and not whinge about.

We managed to win X4 flags with this factor.

This is just some observations from the two games I saw West Coast play in person in 2020:
  • West Coasts backline struggles against the high ball. The combinations of both Lynch/Riewoldt & Hawkins/Esava made the backline look nervous & they made too many mistakes in both games
  • Liam Ryan had the worst first quarter of football I saw in person last year in the semi final Vs Geelong. He had NO impact on that game when the game was in doubt. I personally don’t think he’s got much heart & will need to step up to cover for the loss of Gatorade boy.
  • Nic Nat can’t run out a whole game (from what I saw in the Geelong game) and very few clubs can carry a resting ruckman

Nic nat is still a gun tho

West Coast clearly the team to beat in 2020.

Inject Kelly into that midfield, and as long as Kennedy and Darling stand up for most of the season and are there at the business end, they will be very, very hard to beat.

Should be about $3 for the flag.

And clearly they only did it once. WC do it all season. Trust the Richmond guy to pipe up.

Maybe you guys could get the honorable loss tag every time you lose cause you have to fly on a plane.

As others have pointed out, 3x home losses last year to port pies and hawks was what cost you the season.

And despite the away game #VICBIAS stuff you preach, your only away finals game wasn’t played at the oppositions home ground

What was the excuse for getting belted by Hawthorn at home when top four was on the line? Get car sick on the way to Optus Stadium?

The Rioli distraction cost them a tilt at this year's flag, it may cost them again if the case is finalised shortly before finals.
Alf and quality timing. They waited four weeks to tell him last year!!! They already know the consequences, the afl will always pick the best time! Just as season starts or next years finals!!

The timing of Rioli' suspension was also very interesting. I think if the Eagles had a few days more, they could have used it to spur them on, instead it had its desired effect of stunning the players.

True, while you probably may have not got passed the Tigers, you would have arrived in a prelim with a chance. Just like how the GWS had no chance against the Pies.
Afl loves their timing especially witb interstate teams!! Another competition equaliser

That last Hawks home game hurt your season and the Rioli fiasco was the fatal derailing blow.

Arguably if one of those situations didnt play out, the Eagles season would have progressed further.
Also the port and Pies at home!

7 consecutive at the g leading into finals, didn't have to work for it like all the other teams do.
But but but... they had a brutal start to the year.

They had to make the massive trip to Adelaide twice, and Sydney once. They also had to play Fremantle in Perth. So brutal lmfao.
