No need to get upset that your degree in gender theory is not worth the paper it is printed on.

I took a semester of gender theory and have a mortgage. I mean your viewpoint isn't tethered in reality, so why would your jokes be?

OK, did not realize that, it is not compulsory in WA.

*Tassie or SA

91% turnout for federal election

around 50% voter turnout for Yarra council

If that’s your position then there’s plenty of election results based on similar turnouts.

I’ve got no idea why people get so upset about the idea of shifting it.

If there was a push to get rid of it completely then fair enough, people would lose a public holiday.

But just moving it to a date that doesn’t offend a group of Australians?

Who cares?

*in Kennett actually removed a public holiday in Victoria (Show Day), where were all these teary nutters then?

Councils are no place for this nonsense, if they really want to change Australia day, do it the proper way through the proper channels and ultimately a referendum.
You can only hold a referendum to change the Constitution of Australia, nowhere in the Constitution does it talk about Australia Day or public holidays (which are a State level power). If you're going to talk about proper channels at least know what they are.

LOL

What amazed me was the recent UK election where a BF poll was put up, Labour was so far ahead in the poll it was not funny, but so far behind in real life.

It was then and only then i realized how Greenies and all these other moronic loons get into power, its because middle Australia are to busy working, bringing up kids and living their lives to have the time that these single arts degree drop outs have.

Oh dear. Tho hythtewical.
Ith's jutht not wight that people point and laugh at you when you're being thewioth.

Someone explain to me why Australia Day has to be on the 26th?

Changing it will have no effect for the vast majority of us (Most people will be stoked with a public holiday no matter when it is) while doing something positive for our Indigenous people, some of whom have an issue with the 26th.

Just change it, no one will care in two years.

Generally it seem to be inner city suburban self anointed Greens and Labor 'educated' elites who installed themselves in the old working class suburbs particularly in Melbourne and Sydney.

B. Origami is hardly education

Working as a public servant disqualifies you from being elite.

Is this a thread where stupid righties are telling off people with an education?

See first point.

The world's a wonderfully simple black and white place for you, where concrete, inflexible thinking is a sign of intelligence. Any change, no matter how small, is incredibly scary.

A list of the councils who refuse to have Australia day on Australia day.

Yarra City Vict

Darebin Vict

Mooreland Vict

Inner West NSW

Fremantle WA

Flinders Is Tas

Launceston Tas.

Our real working class would be rolling in their graves at the thought of these numpty radicals who have divorced themselves from reality.

This is how far these lunatics have gone....

Yarra City Council has taken another step towards no longer recognising Australia Day by asking staff to stop using the term while at work.

The inner-north Melbourne council released a briefing to its 1000 employees on January 15 detailing the new approach.

Employees were directed to refer to the day as the "January 26 public holiday" when at work and speaking to the public.

Discuss .....

Celebrate it any way.

Wait what!.

Sydney council set to ditch Australia Day celebrations

The Inner West Shire has a population of just under 200,000 residents, among whom 2000 identify as Aboriginal.

Council sought feedback after the 2019 event and 37 people – "19 per cent" of whom identified as Aboriginal – responded to an online survey, with most opposed to holding a celebratory Australia Day event.

Yeah lets have national hug day instead.

Better than celebrating the birth of a nation and the arrival of civilisation.

Bloody Romans, what did they ever do for us?
What nation was born on 26th of January? Certainly wasn't Australia, so I'm not sure what birth of what nation you think you're celebrating.

Possibly India

26 January- Republic Day

On 26 November, 1949 Indian Constituent Assembly adopted the Constitution the supreme law of the land and replaced the Government of India Act 1935. It came into effect on 26 January 1950 with a democratic government system. This day marks with the largest parade took place at Rajpath, Delhi every year.

You’re just plain wrong - the day isn’t a celebration of the birth of a nation and the arrival of civilisation. That’s just your racist take on it.

It’s totally appropriate to shift it to another day.

Local councils are about building permits, emptying bins and lost dogs but this is what you get prioritised by councils elected by the woke elements of our society. The homepage for Inner West.
