I have a nasty feeling we may have missed the boat with what we have now,I was optimistic but I think there,s a few young teams who will go past us and I think anywhere 5th and 8th we will play finals but we have missed our chance.

Like many older fans I have seen it all before so it comes as no surprise not very confident about this season,I just hope Rantall,Bianco and MaCinnes and N Daicos in the next few seasons come through for us.

I agree, alas. I think the last two years, if we’d had better run with injuries -Wells, Reid, Moore, and so on - we should have won one flag.

So, we’ll be challenged by some up and coming teams And might drop down. Still, a really good run it’s injuries and we’re a chance. Hope sparing eternal even if percentages say it’ll be a strugggle.

I think 7th. Missed the boat with this team but it'll bounce back.

Team relies too much on the older brigade and De Goey, Treloar and the like haven't stepped up yet.

If we don’t finish top 4 something has gone amiss. With how close the comp is something minor could be the difference. The same can be said for WC, GWS, Geelong and the tigs while BL would be hoping to backup their 2019 and will be extremely tough to beat at the gabba.

Five or six into four doesn’t fit though plus history suggests someone unexpected steps up such as us in 2018 or Brisbane in 2019.

I hope we’re not one of the clubs left disappointed and wondering what if after finishing fifth or sixth.

Very hard to bet against the Tigers, Giants and Eagles as top 4 locks. The Cats are regular season titans with their home ground advantage. I think we're likely to finish 4th or 5th and play off in a prelim.

The consensus seems to be finishing 4th-5th and making a PF which on the face of it, is a solid year. Now we all know that making let alone winning a GF is extremely tough however is another top 4 finish without ultimate success really satisfactory? This is a genuine question and not construed in any other way.

GFs are damn hard to win but Richmond have just won 2 in 3 years - we could be up there this year but need much better run with injuries and no distracting off field s**t we seem to attract.

We just have to find a way to dominate others and really dominate in September - another failed campaign will be just that - a failure

Last year we just lost a prelim (that we didn't turn up to) after the (alleged) Beams fiasco and Stephensons suspension. The team won't be effected by those factors this year and with a few of the older players starting to face the end of their careers it's now or never. I'm feeling pretty confident about this year. We have a good mix of old steady heads and talented youth peaking at the right time. A clear run with injuries (which we are surely due) and we should be up there come September.

I want to win the flag every year even when our list is shit. That said Hawthorn in recent decades and us up until the 1930s on average went at around 1 flag every 4 seasons. Evidently that’s the elite benchmark.

Top 4 provides the best launching pad for a flag. Even if we achieve that for the third year running and don’t win the premiership for this isolated period we haven’t yet contested the same number of seasons within the elite benchmark. Therefore it would be premature to call this period a failure after 3 seasons.

Obviously we haven’t gone near 1 flag every 4 seasons in recent decades, but we need to separate the current period from past ineptitudes.

Fair comment but I don't think we were inept (footy wise - less sure about admin) when Bob Rose or Tom Hafey coached us - lost flags then by combination of bad luck and the mysterious Cwood habit of not being able to win close ones :(

The only change to the top 8 from last season will be Melbourne in and Essendon out, I think we will finish top 4 but need to win games against WCE, Brisbane & GWS interstate. Richmond and WCE GWS in the first bracket then Melbourne, Brisbane bulldogs cats and us battling for other top 4.

A clean run on field injury wise and off field with out the obstacles like last year and we are every chance of top 4. I think game style will be important, personally they need to get the mix right similar to 2018, with that quicker ball movement on transition. Once finals come about anything is possible and I’d hope the hurt of 18/19 will spur this group onto the ultimate, the premiership!

We will hopefully have bigger impacts in 2020 from Moore, DeGoey, Stephenson, Adams and Elliott.

No reason why guys like Grundy, Maynard, Crisp, Treloar wouldn’t be expected to keep producing.

Sidey was poor, by his lofty standards in 2019.

But it is all just about peaking in September, we will get there.

I actually predicting some big changes up the top - can see Brisbane, Geelong and WestCoast tumbling back to the pack.

I like what StKilda have done in off-season, and wouldn’t be surprised if Hawthorn are ‘surprise’ improvers.

It’s not, we should be playing every year for a premiership. They can review after the season and put a label on it.

It’s not a genuine question and you know that. We all want a flag, this year. Anything else is failure.

You know this.

You only ask because you want to discuss the follow up question about Buckley as coach.

Well hopefully not, unless you know something I don't? Your point is taken though, the stars really have to align to win a flag (whether injury, off field stuff, contracts, and sometimes the bounce of the ball).

Nah I know nothing. Just know that bizarre things are never too far around the corner. Jaidyn Stephenson is the best example - who the hell would have ever guessed that that was going to happen and unsettle our entire season?

Personally I don't subscribe we are in need of a full rebuild, we just need to polish up our disposal, acquire some key position depth, find a touch of class on the outside and hope the coaching group, development staff and high performance management team improves on the output of previous years and we return to finals.

I'm tipping a Collingwood premiership in 2020.;)

I'll stand by this prediction.

Hello again buddy.

You can choose to take it on face value that the question is genuine, or not.

What I find intriguing is your aforementioned comments - "Anything else is failure." So by extension, assuming the Pies don't win the flag in 2020 (and that seems to be the consensus here) in your mind the club has failed. True? And if so and that notwithstanding, you will continue to robustly support the club and by extension, those running it (after some 9 years) who have overseen this failure. It's not like its only been say 1-3 years. I've asked this before but I never get an answer but I will try again - please explain to me this mindset? And surely it's more than you must support the club through thick and thin and not question. Or maybe it is.
