This is the exact phrase I used to describe it.
Don’t get me wrong, it was done for a great cause, and good on the players for putting on a show, but that’s not footy at its purist.

I love the competitive nature of footy and games like this are more about putting on a show and making sure everyone walks off unharmed.

Glorified circle work.

Good cause, but I wish they would stop trying to tell us these guys were going hard.

I don’t consider it a real State of Origin game where the teams want to guenuinely go hard and win.

It was an all star game. And for the cause, it was great. But it’s not proper state of origin unless it’s Vic v SA or WA and the players will knock seven shades out each other to win.

I went. I thought it was pretty boring and a poor atmosphere despite the size of the crowd. But my kids loved the Mexican wave and seeing all the stars together.

Only works as a contest if it is state vs. state.
The problem with these games is that it’s a watered down contest. You could see players corralling instead of tackling and then when they did tackle they were more concerned about doing it gently and not hurting each other.

I guess it’s just really an exhibition match with the best players.

People go to the footy to watch the contest and to see players going 100%, so it doesn’t surprise me the atmosphere was a bit on the poor side.

It’s like all the pre-season games - devoid of passion. Unfortunately, North are the crappiest team - at the moment - in that regard.

What stood out like dogs balls was the fact that there was like 2 stoppages the entire game. And with that, the game looked 1000% better, and the scoreline showed it, and the umpires were letting the game just play at many stages.

Now I don't know if its because the coaches are so concerned about losing they play defensive to the extreme, or if its because a lot of the players in the league are s**t and can't put on a game of that skill level, or the lack of any real stakes in the game. Could be all of the above.

But what I saw tonight, was far more entertaining at stages than a good chunk of what you'd see through a season.

Something is amiss.

it's because it was an all stars exhibition match. If it were for points it would not have been played or coached the same way. Free flowing play, sure, because tackles were not prioritised or followed through, no one actually going at 100%.

Ofcourse I sort of mentioned it as such why it just looked better, I wish that could happen somehow in the real season with stakes, going 100% and having a hard contest, and it really only occurs on grand final day if you're even lucky.

Its just not a great game to watch when its stoppages every minute and 16 players are sitting in the forward 50.
