Coronavirus/COVID-19

NBA suspended, MLB season start postponed, most euro top flight football postponed with the premier league holding an emergency meeting in about 10hrs time. AFL & NRL likely to be postponed, F1 has been cancelled, cricket apparently going to continue without fans but surely will also get called off.

Never in my lifetime would I have thought all this would happen.
The leagues will all be eventually cancelled, as will the AFL. Postponing them is only delaying the inevitable as coronavirus is not going to be gone within a few months. 2020 is a complete write off from a sporting point of view. Take it to the bank.

See you all in 2021.

Dunno why they can't do the Prix and other events without crowds???

Because its difficult to stage a race when the likes of McLaren have members of their team who have contracted C-19 and had already pulled out.

Given the fact that F1 teams are made up of people from all over the world they weren't going to be the last. Indeed only yesterday we had the current F1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton publicly questioning why the GP was going ahead at all and he has very good a point.

We are not going to see weeks of sport played in empty stadiums, its a nonsense.

As for the AFL all its going to take is for one member of a club to come down with C-19 and the all the dominoes of a cancelled season will fall.

It'll wreck the time capsule thread :( dogwatch
I might lock myself away with the Time Capsule (and an ample supply of toilet paper of course).
Not to be opened until October.

I’ve been a bit of a “she’ll be right” person over all this and yet I’m typing this at home as my son heads off to hospital to get tested because his girlfriend works close to a woman who is unwell and awaiting results from testing after sharing drinks with a friend who is a confirmed case. I’m a teacher with no symptoms (with a son who has no symptoms with a girlfriend who might just have a cold who sits in a cubicle next to someone waiting for results because she shared a drink with someone who has Coronavirus) because I can’t risk the school community. It could result in a whole lot of nothing or a whole family watching 2016 replays for 2 weeks at home while 800 kids can’t go to school. It’s real 7 degrees of separation from Kevin Bacon and after the NBA thing, the AFL is gonna have to really think this through, even though my old school approach to life might think it’s overkill.

You're not infectious until you have symptoms, I believe. If you've been in contact with someone who's been in contact with someone who has it, you don't need to be tested, just self isolate if you are asymptomatic. If everyone went along under those circumstances the health system would soon be overwhelmed and diverted from testing and treating those WITH symptoms.

Closing schools for a couple of weeks is a way of slowing the spread and should be done. Good that they've stopped the F1 (the drivers refused to participate, I've heard), there'll be no crowd at today's ODI, and if we have to have a couple of weeks (or longer) without crowds at the footy, so be it. Just hope the club has protocols in place for the players and staff.

Many reports of people who are not showing symptoms and spreading the virus.

Rumour on the SuperCoach board that they’re considering delaying start to the season by 4 weeks then review.

*if* this happens I reckon they are working on a 17 round fixture right now where teams play each other once. If it’s delayed by anywhere near 3 months it would just be cancelled
