Round 1 2020
4 Rising star candidates playing.

Matthew Rowell
- 6 kicks, 13 handballs, 11 contested possessions, 74% DE, 159m gained, 4 tackles, 3 clearances

Can see that he knows how to navigate a stoppage - doesn't just handball to the first player he sees, finds the correct option. 100% a gun in the making. Even that time he ripped the ball off Lycett after he tackled him - trying to show some physical presence. Joel Selwood.

Noah Anderson
- 6 kicks, 6 handballs, 2 marks, 5 contested possessions, 50% DE, 246m gained.

Started well with 8 possessions in the first quarter. Looked to run out of gas much beyond then. A couple of bad decisions, but good to get a run under his belt.

Connor Buderick
- 8 possessions, 3 contested possessions, 75% DE, 3 tackles.

Thought he was probably our second best rookie. Did a great job when marking Robbie Gray who didn't kick a goal. I was concerned about his defensive capabilities having played exclusively as a midfielder during his junior career. He alayed much of that fear.

Caleb Graham
- 5 possessions, 3 marks, 14 1%ers, 4 free kicks against.

Dirty Day. Port's tall forwards looked dangerous all day - Georgiades and Marshall both kicked 2 goals. Gave away 4 free kicks in the setting of umpire harsher interpretation of the rule which has been happening this whole round.

Terrific game both defensively and offensively, and boy does he have genuine speed. Excited by this guy - the real reason Saad left

Absolutely stoked for Budders! Hately very stiff this week, probably the losing side thing hurt him. But a stellar game from Connor all the same and wrapt that the media is riding the Gold Coast SUNS train

Flanders and Anderson potentially good shots at getting nominated to match their record.

I would of thought Starcevich would be the runner up this week. He played well, but i had a feeling Budarick would get it this week. His attack at the footy and silky skills are a joy to watch. I love a player that can kick both feet

I think you give Swallow and Witts another couple of years and then get Bowes in there. Oozes leadership.
Looking at Swallow and Bowes both would be great to skipper our first finals and/or Premiership side

Swallow: resisted chances to go home to WA or to North Melbourne to play with his brother. Our number 1 draft pick in the first season and played with us since the beginning.

Bowes: Local GC product. Came through our Academy playing as an academy product in the NEAFL side. Would be awesome to see a Gold Coaster lead us to finals.

if he is out for the year, he can win next year again

A player is nominated for the award each round during the AFL season by a panel of experts; to be eligible for nomination, the player must be aged 20 or under on 1 January that year, and have played ten or fewer AFL games as of the start of the season.[9] A player can only be nominated once per season; if a player is suspended during the season, he may be nominated, but will not be eligible to win the award.[nb 1][11] At the completion of the regular season, each member of the voting panel independently awards five votes, four votes, three votes, two votes and one vote to the nominated players they regard as the best to fifth-best during the season; the player with the highest total of votes wins the medal.[12]

As the number of voting members varies between seasons, the maximum number of votes a player can poll is not consistent. There have been only three winners who have accumulated the maximum votes in their season: Jared Rivers (2004), Daniel Rich(2009), and Dan Hannebery (2010).[13][14]

It is possible for a player to be nominated in multiple seasons, as long as he still satisfies the age and experience criteria in each year. Eleven players have been nominated twice for a Rising Star award:[15]

An extremely long shot but even if he doesnt play he could still win now
