Gotta say, I love how BigFooty has become my go to site for information on Covid-19. Well done all.

I do appreciate how we're getting a wide variety of perspectives, although we'll probably cross swords now and then to disagree, we're all looking at the same thing in different ways and collaborating something so we can all understand better.

Sounds corny, but that's what's happenin'.

Thanks mate, and yes I am putting it of as long as possible, but of course they are switching off the cable Feb next year.

My company provides almost the entire HFC infrastructure and the changes in experience have largely been overcome. It was system based. In fact over the next twelve months the new upgrades should increase performance. Already most should be seeing a vast improvement in upload speeds as this is where a lot of performance can be improved. However if you want to lobby the government for better speeds I am happy to overbuild with fibre!

You're trying to have a discussion with someone who thought Donald Trump was taking the advice of the experts to heart.
It's one of my important entertainment sources in these house bound days though.

Good old Snake told us that the politicians would and should do what the scientific experts told them to. But now Trump has said he wants to ignore the experts and open the US back up by Easter. Snake says he hates politics getting in the way of the science and the experts but he's conspicuously quiet on this one. Must be an ABC conspiracy.

Closer to home, we have an expert panel from the best universities in Australia advising the government to move faster at closing things down. Why as taxpayers do we fund the research efforts of these experts through billions in ARC, NHMRC and Research Block Grants only for the government to ignore their advice in a time of crisis? Surely someone who prioritises scientific expert advice over politicians' expediency in determining policy would be filthy. Not Snake!! It's an ABC conspiracy 🤣

I've seen it doing the rounds.

Not true.

Cheers.

I drink hot drinks and water regularly and do breathing exercises every morning. Slow deep breathing, holding my breath at the beginning and end of every breath and trying to use my diaphragm as much as my chest and intercostal muscles.

I'd recommend it to anyone actually. If you can get to under four cycles a minute its good for you. That is one on and out breath every 15 seconds.

I now need to chase this up.

Its via missus' dad who has friends who work up there.

I hope its just some bullshit and not actually via someone in their administration dept.

I am ahead of the curve, I have been social-distancing since about 2010.

Lol what you're doing is actually a good meditation technique, will help you get past these tough times... of no footy...

Missus works for Health Dept, they are going around asking patients who have been in contact with confirmed cases. Seems to be a lag on reported symptoms

Yea, except that we both know Morisson is advised by Australia’s top medical associations and that some bodies don’t agree with those associations. He’s let the states do what they think is in their best interests and they too are listening to the exact same medical evidence and advice.

It’s not like old Adolf sitting at the head of the table and dismissing advice flippantly.

It is a massive simplification to say that the Morrison government is ignoring expert advice:

"Nick Coatsworth, an infectious diseases specialist at Canberra Hospital and Australian National University academic, has been appointed the fourth deputy to Chief Medical Officer Brendan Murphy to help communicate health updates to the public.

During an interview on ABC TV on Thursday morning, Dr Coatsworth appeared to back up comments made by fellow Deputy Chief Medical Officer Paul Kelly on Wednesday that there were “two schools of thought” about how to respond to the coronavirus outbreak.

On Wednesday, Dr Kelly said the Australian Health Protection Principal Committee — the body that advises the National Cabinet and includes the CMOs — was in favour of a scalable approach, while other health experts, including those advising the Victorian Premier, were in favour of a “go hard and go fast” approach”.

Asked about the effectiveness of ramping up social isolation restrictions, Dr Coatsworth said it was “a contested point”.

“I have to say that the experts around the table of the Australian Health Protection Principal Committee do not think that this will be over in weeks, if you put in harder and faster measures,” Dr Coatsworth said."

I do and obviously Latham and his mates all got stuck in and ate the mad cow beef. They survived but their brains ended up being fried. Only way I can explain it anyway.

Latham's another brain crack victim, but he's dealing it as well

It is no coincidence that his second political rise came along with the full bore weaponisation of social media.

Spot on, I appreciate the insight about the deputies.

Coronavirus crisis: Health Minister Roger Cook confirms 26 new WA confirmed cases
Peter De KruijffThe West Australian
Thursday, 26 March 2020 2:12PM

WA has 26 new recorded cases of coronavirus, bringing the State's total to 231.
Minister for Health Roger Cook said in addition there have been 23 people who have recovered.

“Of 221, 10 are still to be contacted and interviewed,” he said.
Seventeen of the new cases are males and nine females ranging from the age of seven to 81.
One of the adults is from the Pilbara.
It bring the regional total up to six in the South West, three in the Kimberley, two in Wheatbelt, two in the Great Southern two in the Pilbara, two in the Mid-West and one in the Goldfields.
The number of cases related to cruise ship passengers has gone up to 55.
Eleven coronavirus patients are in Perth hospitals with three in a critical condition.
Mr Cook said all the COVID-19 cases so far investigated appeared to be related to overseas travel, cruise ship passengers or close contact with people who had travelled internationally.
One man in his 70s has been taken off the Aratania for a non-coronavirus related life threatening emergency.
“As a precaution he is being treated in a negative pressure room in Fiona Stanley Hospital,” Mr Cook said.

Coronavirus crisis: Stand-off as cruise ships anchor off coast, Rottnest Island turned into quarantine camp
Peter Law, Danielle Le Messurier & Josh ZimmermanThe West Australian
Thursday, 26 March 2020 1:38PM

WA is locked in an extraordinary stand-off with three cruise ships carrying thousands of passengers, with the military put on stand-by and Rottnest Island turned into a quarantine camp.
Of gravest concern was the health of passengers aboard the Artania, which had been due to dock in Fremantle to refuel but reported early yesterday that 25 passengers were suffering with respiratory disease symptoms.
The State Government was last night sweating on the results of testing on the sick passengers after WA Health Department clinicians boarded the liner.

Worryingly, a German passenger who was on the ship from March 13-16 and disembarked at Sydney tested positive for COVID-19 after he flew home to Europe, Artania’s tour operator Phoenix Reisen said.
With 832 passengers and 515 crew on the Artania, there were fears an outbreak of the coronavirus at sea could swamp Perth’s hospitals and put WA in the middle of an international humanitarian disaster.
The troubling events came as WA Health Minister Roger Cook said cruise ships were linked to a quarter of coronavirus cases in the State and as it emerged that a 68-year-old Queensland man who was on a Royal Caribbean cruise ship that docked in Sydney last week had succumbed to the disease. He is Australia’s ninth victim.
Defiant Premier Mark McGowan vowed his first priority was the health and safety of West Australians and that no passengers would set foot in WA unless life-saving medical help was needed.
Doctors’ group AMA WA called on the community to lead a “full work and school lockdown” as the health system prepared for a potential influx of cruise ship patients.
“A full community lockdown is now vital to preserve lives and to protect health staff fighting the COVID-19 battle,” AMA WA president Andrew Miller said.
A second foreign cruise ship, the MSC Magnifica, was yesterday stranded in the Indian Ocean north of Perth after it was told it could not disembark passengers at Dubai, its final port of call.
As the Magnifica sailed in a circle to return to Fremantle, WA authorities ordered its captain to anchor at sea and issued a strong warning that it would not be permitted to dock here.
“There are plenty of other ports in the world,” Police Commissioner Chris Dawson, pictured left, said.
Its operator, MSC Cruises, said there was no evidence anyone aboard had COVID-19 but was unable to say where it planned to disembark its 1700 passengers.
A third liner, the Vasco da Gama, is due in Fremantle tomorrow with 798 Australians and 109 New Zealanders aboard.
Cruise & Maritime Voyages insisted no one aboard had symptoms of the disease and it had been blindsided by the decision to force Australian passengers to be quarantined on Rottnest for 14 days.
The Defence Force was mobilised as there were comparisons to the 2001 Tampa affair when the SAS took control of a foreign cargo ship carrying asylum-seekers to stop the ship entering Australian waters.
“The Magnifica and the Artania both need to leave and go back to their port of origin and leave as soon as possible,” Mr McGowan said.
The high seas crisis comes as WA recorded 30 new cases, including eight in regional areas, bringing the State’s total to 205.
Eleven coronavirus patients were in hospital, three in a critical condition.
Referring to the Ruby Princess fiasco in which passengers infected with COVID-19 disembarked at Sydney and returned to homes across Australia, Mr McGowan said: “I will not allow what happened in Sydney to happen in WA.
“We have seen what has happened in Sydney Harbour — it was a complete and utter disaster ... there are no circumstances where we will allow passengers or crew to wander the streets in our State.”
A spokeswoman for Phoenix Reisen contradicted some of the information provided by the Premier.
She said 10 passengers aboard the Artania had been tested after reporting high temperatures.
She said none of the sick passengers were seriously unwell and the belief was that they were unlikely to be infected.
If negative test results were returned overnight or this morning, the plan was for the Artania to refuel at Fremantle, then complete its round-the-world voyage by sailing to its home port in Germany.
Passengers were spotted enjoying the sun on the decks hours after Mr McGowan announced that they would be refused entry to WA.
Smiling and giving the thumbs up, more than 100 passengers were spotted without face masks or gloves.
