Home Isolation Advice:

What to do if you’re feeling unwell

If you are severely unwell, such as having difficulty breathing, call 000 (Triple Zero).

If you have travelled anywhere overseas in the past 14 days and have COVID-19 symptoms, seek testing at a COVID-19 clinic or contact your GP (advise your GP of your travel history) and isolate yourself.

If you have NOT travelled overseas recently, but are feeling unwell, visit your usual health care provider. Avoid contact with others if you are unwell.

Dear posters: unsubstantiated advice will be deleted. We understand you want to help, but #fakenews blah blah blah we're not allowing any disinformation. Got some great advice about washing your hands whilst dancing like David Byrne in Once In A Lifetime helps kill the virus? That's fantastic, provide a link to a reputable source.

I’ve not received any such message from the Australian government. 😳
Me neither. I thought these messages were designed to get to everyone if need be.

Atrocious. Can't even send a simple message to Australians (see: NZ)

Another thing the government's ballsed-up completely.

It’s interesting I have a conversation nearly every night with my wife who speaks to her family in China every couple of days and they believe it was an American soldier that started it in China, and I have to explain the propaganda that their government release to them
Unbelievable, the Americans are even trying to turn a buck in the Wuhan "Wet markets".
The military games were held in Wuhan in late late October last year. I believe they were making (trying) a connection to a US soldier who attended the games

For anyone who like graphs of all shapes and sizes.
My take is infection rates are slowing. But probably a bit early to lock that trend in yet.
Considering the large number of travellers still returning home recently up around 1M, this is pretty positive news.

I beg to differ, google it.

The second sentence of your post is however entirely accurate. :)
Well you learn something everyday! All my life I’ve known it as one thing.... but I’ll tell you this, there are MANY MORE memes that say beast! 😜

One of my family members on Facebook who I haven't seen in a long time just commented on an anti China post 'can't ever trust the slanty eyeds'. I wonder if I should tell her my long term partner is a slanty eyed?
Do it. Make them squirm!

Finally found something I wanted to know for ages:

One gauge of a virus is how contagious it is. The flu has an infectiousness measure (or R0) of only about 1.5, meaning that each sick person infects on average 1.5 others. In contrast, Covid-19 without social distancing appears to have an R0 of perhaps 2.5.

A second gauge of a virus is how often infected people must be hospitalized. With the seasonal flu that’s roughly 1 percent; with the coronavirus, estimates range from 5 percent to 20 percent.

A higher R0 and higher hospitalization rate conspire to wreak havoc. A single person with the flu can result in the infections of 386 other people over two months, and a handful would be hospitalized. But in that same period one Covid-19 patient could lead to the infections of 99,000 people, of whom nearly 20,000 might need to be hospitalized.

A third measure is lethality, the “case fatality rate,” or percentage of people who contract an illness who eventually die of it. For the flu, this is about 0.1 percent. For Covid-19, there are enormous uncertainties but even in optimal circumstances it may be 10 times greater, roughly 1 percent — although it has been much higher than that in countries like Italy with older populations and overburdened hospitals.

Some clear stats on how effective the virus is. Puts paid to the "no worse than the flu" crowd.

I know you’ve been heavily into total lockdown for spread prevention, but there is a flip side and I want to share it here:
An acquaintance told me her 90 year old neighbour is seen to continually going out for walks outside her home during this era of social distancing. The acquaintance asked her “aren’t you concerned of your health during this Corona pandemic?”
The 90 year old lady answered “I’m 90. If the virus hits me then so be it. But if I have to stay at home all day for who-knows how long, then I can’t bear to keep on living”.

I just can’t believe their numbers! Absolutely terrifying. Their already s**t medical system is going to crumble under these numbers.
With easy access to near military grade weapons I would hate to be living in the US right now.

ALL THE THINGS THAT KEEP YOU HEALTHY. AND YOUR IMMUNE SYSTEM STRONG ARE. NOW ILLEGAL LOL..

IIT GIVES YOU THE SHITS, HENCE WHY NO TOILET PAPER.

Yeah it’s not like they wouldn’t have heard what they need to do by now.
None the less...these messages are supposed to go to everyone with a phone. In times of crisis it is the best way to disseminate information. The system clearly doesn’t work.

Yeah it’s not like they wouldn’t have heard what they need to do by now.

Yeah it's not like they wouldn't have wanted one reliable source of information by now.

[redacted this line as I may have misread Elite's post]

Cool, I'm going to go get a haircut and see if my cruise liner has docked today. Then I'm going to the footy!

Socialist nations are doing OK with this. You have to give credit to wuhan, they had no idea what they were dealing with and the death toll very low. They had no warning.

They do have a few things in thier favour, a functioning community, food seen as medicine, high humidity and a gov that is prepared to make the hard calls and a medical system that promotes immune system function.

Counterpoint: if one were so inclined, it would be a fantastic place to live right now!

I am hoping that even during lockdown we are able to.still.go out.for a.daily walk.

I personally am using the time I would usually travel to work to extend my daily morning walk length.

Given the spread of housing in oir suburb and the fact the playgrounds have been fenced off, I dont see this as a risky activity.

My wife is an essential admin worker in the publoc health service. That is far more riskier.
