Good stuff, approved.

I’m also getting the 404 page but will investigate/put in a Help request later on as it’s not preventing people joining.

FIRST TOURNAMENT

Since the current vote leader is for shorter games, I am proposing to hold the inaugural tournament for the BigFooty chess club this weekend:
- Saturday 4 April
- 5pm-6.30pm, AEDT
- 4 games
- 10 minutes per player per game (so a game will last maximum 20 minutes)

No prizes but to get us all used to a tournament on chess.com in a low maintenance way. Then we can see what comes next.

Let me know if there are any major objections to the date/time/format, otherwise I shall set this up on Monday evening for people to enter.

I honestly can't play if its a short-game tournament. Have a 3 month old baby at home so games where I can take a break at any time work much better for me. This time slot especially won't work for me.

We are all going to be locked up for 6 weeks - I don't see why we need to jam the games into a 20 minute window - we should be aiming for maximum flexibility

Thanks for the comment.

It’s an interesting one. Based on the results so far of the poll members are clearly interested in all formats of games, which is great! Conversely the issue with that is it means that some members understandably can’t do shorter games, like yourself, whilst others can only afford short time slots to play chess.

My initial thought was to do a combination; have this shorter tournament this weekend to give prospective members a week to join and those members who like the shorter format a quick tournament. Then hold a longer tournament, either as a tournament or ladder format based on the poll results. This would be the big BigFooty tournament starting at Easter and going on for a few weeks.

Happy to hear yours and others thoughts though.

A tournament should be a live event. You’re still able to have longer games on the side, I’m happy to throw down with you now if you’d like.

SarahSmiles I thought I accepted your request, but you’re not appearing on the membership list. Did I inadvertently decline it? Could you please reapply?

Accidentally had a photo of me + RL info as I connected Facebook, will create a new account tonight as I deleted the one I requested to join with. All good!

ENTRY DETAILS FOR BIGFOOTY INAUGURAL TOURNAMENT (SATURDAY, 5PM)

I have set up the tournament, to start on Saturday. Entry details are as below:

1) Click on the link: https://www.chess.com/live#t=1172445 from one hour before the tournament (4pm Saturday). This is what I see when I click it now:

1585559382300.png

From 4pm on Saturday, there will be a button on the bottom right saying "Join". Press that to enter the tournament. At 5pm exactly, your first game will start and entries will close.

2) As you can see, each game has 10mins per player, so a total of 20 minutes a game.
3) However your next game will start 5 seconds after the end of when everyone has finished their previous game. So watch out - the next game will not start at 5.20pm, but at some point before 5.20pm. So I anticipate the four games to finish well before 6.30pm.
4) You can see on the interface who is playing who and various other tournament stats.

It's my first tournament on this format so bear with everyone as we work out how the system works.

This tournament is open to all members of the club, including those who join this week. So if you know fellow BF posters, encourage them to join. It should be fun!
