Dunno about that BH.
You would imagine contracts will be renegotiated down following any salary cap slash.
Reduced contracts would mean reduced percentages for player managers you’d expect ... what a shame ...
You may well be right Red Bull.

I was pretty much paraphrasing Liam Pickering from SEN a week or so ago....it may all come down to what value you place on your A Graders, how many you have on your list, and if you can fit them all into your cap if there are other clubs sniffing around who may have cap space.

Collingwood would have to be nervous now about being able to keep both De Gooey and Moore.

GWS as always will be under every clubs microscope as far as fitting all their talent under the salary cap.
That’s of course if you believe they actually have a salary cap.
I’d love to relieve them of Caldwell and Hill, wouldn’t be a huge dent to our cap and both would compliment our list beautifully for the next decade ...

Not all that interested in De Goey for 2 reasons. 1 - He is way too injury prone (is lucky to play 18 games a season these days including finals) and 2 I have a few red flags about his attitude and off field problems.
Look, if his management approached us and said he wanted to play for Carlton, I wouldn’t knock him back, but he is certainly not a player I would be actively pursuing if I was involved with list management decisions at the club.

I would prefer to wait a couple of years to try poach Cam Zuuhaar from North, has a more durable, tougher body than JDG, and I personally think he will be the better player long term.

Why wait? This season will be the best time there is to pounce on any target.

If we have to go down the path of shedding players and renegotiating contracts, then everyone is theoretically available.

I think the numbers (list size/ salerey cap)are all just hypothetical .
I can remember when WCE first entered the comp, their list was only 35.
They struggled with injuries and to field a competitive side at times.
I think this talk is to conditions the players into realizing they will be required to take a pay cut. If you use the figure of 3 mIllion that equates to about 25% pay cut. I feel it will be pitched to the players that it is better to take a pay cut than loss 160 players, which could be any one of you.

Easy in theory but I could imagine when it go down to it, the many players earning $600,000 plus, aren’t going to want to take a 25% pay cut, so that the bottom 5-10 players remain on a list.

A lot of the guys to be cut, would purely be depth players, with most of them not being a factor in selection 3/4 of the season.

Self interest will prevail

Very early call, but i like what I’ve seen of this bloke and can see him as that dangerous floater type in the future.

I suspect the Giants will try a bit harder to retain Hill than Caldwell. He is a type they don't have much in the way of.

Tend to agree.
Obviously they have Greene as an elite smallish forward.
They also have Langdon and Daniels but Hill projects as a real X factor game changer.
Reckon Greene and Hill would be their preferred option going forward.

Caldwell on the other hand has a bit of work to do to get game time with that list. Might be one that falls out.

Yep, but they will be well compensated for him and so the cycle will continue as is their strategy.
We have a number of his former junior teammates on our list and i guess players do talk.
He along with Stocker, Kemp, Philp and Ramsay would make for a mouthwatering second wave midfield coming through the ranks in the absence of Murphy and Curnow going forward.

Totally agree. Must start from the top. The players put on the game and only have a short life span in their career.

in my view we can let our development fall away. Our future is our young talent. To keep Betts, Simpson, Kreuzer etc for one more year will be a disaster!

List cloggers have to go. Newman and Gibbons aren’t taking us anywhere. Very average players.
I meant the CEO at AFL House.

Interesting to think about our midfield still not unearthing anyone that look like top-liners besides Crippa and Walsh after so many dips into he well.

Will any A-graders develop from any of Setterfield, Dow, LOB, Kennedy, Kemp, Stocker, Fisher or Gibbons?

How many under 23 A-grade mids are there across the competition?

Yes!
Throw Petrevski-Seton, Philp, Ramsay, not to mention Cuningham and the older Martin if we so choose, in to the mix.

I wouldn’t bet on anyone of them individually becoming guns but I would bet on one from the group coming on. To be honest if any of them had done what they have done at another club you wouldn’t give two seconds thought to any of them.

No way of knowing for sure, I’m confident to put a line through Kennedy and Gibbons, I doubt they will even be on the list next year but a few of the others have a chance. Cross Kemp out as he has yet to start proper training or debut, Dow, Fish and LOB have all shown in patches that they have qualities that could make them very good players, I doubt they will be A grade, but there is a lot to work with.

Other than Kemp who is untried at AFL, I cant really see A graders developing out of that group for a host of reasons.
Setterfield - Zero urgency and doesnt like contact. I dont think he will be the big bodied mid we were all hoping for.
Dow - Terrible disposal, draft fail.
LOB - Cant be an A grade mid if all you can do is run. Maybe a outside running wingman but needs to put on size. Looks like one of those types who cant keep weight on.
Kennedy - If he aint now never will be (23 yo), cant even get a game let alone be A Grade.
Stocker - Largely untried but something seems NQR here.
Fisher - Soft and doesnt put in for 4 qtrs. Too one sided and oppo have worked him out. Has no right side what so ever.
Gibbons - One of those too good for VFL not good enough got AFL types. Great work ethic but I dont think he will be A grade.
