Interesting thread here

Article itself is here https://www.ft.com/content/6bd88b7d-3386-4543-b2e9-0d5c6fac846c

Specifically regional figures for the harder hit areas;

Also commentary regarding the "they're just reporting all deaths as COVID related so they're not really counted" crowd.

Thanks for that. A great metric to interrogate the threat. Of course, the likes of Les, will tell us those spikes in death are a result of increased suicides from people being in lock down

Is it just my bias as an AFL supporter, or are NRL players consistently stupider than AFL players?

It's a hard benchmark to fail to achieve, but they limbo under it with flying colours.

Crazy as it might sound some statistician measure graphs over 20-30 year period - they also take into account factors like fluctuations in populations
But if you want to freak yourself out its probably best to stick with shorter period.

Of the 1391 children assessed and tested from January 28 through February 26, 2020, a total of 171 (12.3%) were confirmed to have SARS-CoV-2 infection. Demographic data and clinical features are summarized in Table 1. (Details of the laboratory and radiologic findings are provided in the Supplementary Appendix, available with the full text of this letter at NEJM.org.) The median age of the infected children was 6.7 years. Fever was present in 41.5% of the children at any time during the illness. Other common signs and symptoms included cough and pharyngeal erythema. A total of 27 patients (15.8%) did not have any symptoms of infection or radiologic features of pneumonia. A total of 12 patients had radiologic features of pneumonia but did not have any symptoms of infection. During the course of hospitalization, 3 patients required intensive care support and invasive mechanical ventilation; all had coexisting conditions (hydronephrosis, leukemia [for which the patient was receiving maintenance chemotherapy], and intussusception). Lymphopenia (lymphocyte count, <1.2×109 per liter) was present in 6 patients (3.5%). The most common radiologic finding was bilateral ground-glass opacity (32.7%).
Draining away the hope that kids escape this unscathed.
Interesting that 39/171 were asymptomatic. Not quite as high as the estimates put out by some, but still a large proportion.

I guess one good thing out of that is that the rate of patients needing ICU is lower than what it seems to be in adults (assuming that it is still true that ~5% of adults end up in ICU)

Given this thread has covered RNA sequencing, quantum stats and App Beta testing, I can't see why a little sojourn into depth psychology wouldn't be useful.

C.Jung theorised that when we find ourselves irrationally hating something, we maybe projecting those parts of ourselves we have rejected. He called this the Shadow. Now, its quite normal to disagree with someone but when you reject something emotionally it's a strong sign that something else is going on.

Where there is an imminent threat this reaction is healthy - it is your survival instinct and your unconscious takes over and directs you to instinctively either fight or flight. When however, the threat is what someone said or typed on a screen there can be no rational basis for losing your cool. What is going on is a great sign that it is part of your self you need to integrate to become a more complete and well developed individual.

Whenever you roll your eyes at some stupid indiscretion by one of your clubs young players, just think of the Todd Carneys and Mitchell Pearces of the world.

It’s generally next level stuff...though I will concede Campbell Brown.

To clarify, I know what they are, I was more wondering what the medical consequences are.

Lung damage? Reversible? Irreversible?
Its a non-specific finding that doesn't mean anything on its own as its just the visual representation of widespread partial filling of the tiny air sacks that make up your lungs. It doesn't tell doctors what they are filled with or why. There are both reversible and irreversible causes of GGOs, so seeing that on a CT alone doesn't guarantee that the person will have ****ed up lungs for the rest of their lives

What the long term consequences are is dependent on the underlying cause and its obviously still too early to know what the long term consequences are of COVID-19.

for anyone below 65 unemployment mainly

Even if I was certain it was safe to download the fact that it has to run at all times with Bluetooth on is a huge no. What a colossal waste of battery. I only have Bluetooth on in my car. Otherwise it drains your battery a ridiculous amount.
Agreed. I use it to connect to speakers or sometimes my samsung watch (I used it for first 2 weeks I had it) and nothing else.

Socialist doesn't trust conservative government.

Who'd have thought?
Fair enough if they were implementing typical conservative policies like removing banking regulation or selling public monopolies to the private sector.

But a tracking device to help stop a virus? You could not get a more socialist policy if you tried. Personally Im a socialist when it comes to data collection. A lot of good can be done for the people if we have better micro data. Assuming that data is going to the government/public sector.

Snopes investigated the claim, finding it's plausible Medicare pays in the range Jensen mentions but doesn't have a "one-size-fits-all" payment to hospitals for COVID-19 patients.
