Don't think The Tractor or probably Kennedy are going to experience top 4 status.
There's more than just MK x2 that carry that concern.

IMO Willo, Newman, Doc, Setterfield, O'Brien, Cuners, C Curnow, Kennedy, Stocker, Kreuze, Kemp, Dow & JSOS all carry question marks, due to injuries or the amount of development still required to consistently perform a role for our side.

After everything that has gone on with Wines the last season and a half, i can not see him staying. I don't think he suits us, well, unless we ship off Setters and Kennedy but i think he's gone.
I can't see him staying either,
Wines would represent a considerable upgrade on Kennedy, JSOS & Setters as an inside mid/forward option - the concern for me is that given we already lack a bit of pace would the upgrade (and the outlay required to bring him across) be worthwhile? I'm less sure.
The idea of rotating Cripps forward and slotting Wines into the centre square to replace him is reasonably appealing though.

Zurhaar 189cm 90kg
De Goey 188cm 92kg

Both use their pace to good effect, Zurhaar more physical, De Goey more skillful. But both very well-rounded X-factor players.

Think it's a very apt comparison given De Goey is 24 and has played 89 games versus Zurhaar's 21yo/29 games.

Can't really compare based on height and weight when they're completely different footballers.

Matt Kennedy is similar also but that's about where the comparison ends.

Zurhaar is the better pressure forward but JDG has him covered comfortably in pretty much every other area I reckon, comfortably too.

Is it too early/premature to discuss possibly trading Paddy Dow ?

I like the kid, but for whatever reason, he simply has not come on as we had hoped (mind you, our young player development has not been all that stellar either)

He may want to ask for a trade anyway (anyone know his contract status ?)

Far too early - the kid isn't even 21 yet. Contracted through to the end of 2022 and is a huge talent.

Has lost his way a bit since being moved out of the midfield but he's a pure mid and was tracking very nicely in that role under Bolton.

He'll move back inside before too long and all this rubbish about him being no good or a waste of a pick will be very quickly forgotten. He's excellent on the inside for someone of his age and experience.

Yes JDG definitely has him covered, but I would suggest that experience and games played are a huge factor in that.

Anyone that can't see how good Zurhaar is going to be isn't looking hard enough imo.

Disagree that they're completely different footballers, happy to leave it there.

Unfortunately, Diesel is gorn....squeezed out along with big Sav and Hamish McDonald as specialist coaches
Damn, I thought they were stood down until football resumed, didn’t realise it was permanent, that’s a shame. Poor bloke, gave up working with multiple players at different clubs to just work for us and now he’s left with zip. This fu***ng virus!

Thought I heard he was talking of personal training, maybe even for juniors, which is a shame for the development of our players but at least an avenue for making some coin.

And here goes a little plug https://www.dieselwilliams.com.au/

Why would list sizes be reduced to 35? Boggles the mind, it would have to be combined with shorter game times, to allow for less liklihood of injury to the core 22. Which... may be what the AFL wants, but it's ****ing not what I want or what any punter wants.

Bring back 22 aside, full length quarters. Bring back the attrition, bring back the wars, bring back the best rising to the top. 16 minute quarters is very plastic football.

It's half a year of eocnomic downturn, surely that doesn't mean throw the toys out of the cot moving forward.

Bravo. Not enough likes to cover this post. 👏

Kornes hypothetical trade scenario...Zacch Merritt to carlton, wines to * and ~pick 10 to port. would we be interested in zach? as a possible replacement for murph?

1000% yes.

Merrett is a gun who would suit us perfectly.

We make out like bandits, IMO

Merrett is a very good player. Plays mostly on the outside, but is not soft at all (despite most fan commentary). Tackles with intent and gets more than his share of clearances.

Perfect age, skillset for us.

EDIT: What J said ^^^

I'd consider him similar to Murph in that Merrett often has to play a role that is unsuited to him due to the lack of alternative contested ballwinners which can make him look a little soft at times.
I'd be extremely surprised if the Bombers were to move him on though as they should have sufficient trade assets to get Wines without offering up Merrett.

Bombers didn't need Shiel. Had too many of the same type...... :p
I'll just add, Wines is exactly what Bombers need for their midfiled, so NO from me. We don't help THEM.!!!

The hypothetical was just Cornes being Cornes.....stirring the pot for fun. It'll never happen.

To his credit though, this one does makes sense for all parties.
  • PORT: Wines is on the outer and Port need to rebuild
  • *: Have too many outside types (and Merrett just got demoted from leadership group)
  • CARL: We need mids, not kids. And especially ones with pace, spread, skills.
  • So, it is a win-win-win, perhaps with some steak knives floating around (starting with us adding something).
As for * having sufficient trade assets....sure, they do. But whether Dodo is willing to use them realistically is another question....

Sometimes I really do wonder, Elmer, if you think before you post.

Worth a look? Unrestricted FA, so it's a free throw at the stumps...

This is a Brad Crouch vs Ollie Wines comparison. Both of them are inside midfielders, with Wines being about a year younger. What interests me about this is the difference between how the two players are regarded; Wines is thought as having regressed or having failed to come on to the extent that his early days were terrific where Crouch is thought of as a gun.

I rate both, insofar as they'd completely replace one of our older players in the middle (my money'd be on Ed rather than Murph, with JSOS taking the run-with roles if one needs to be applied) and immediately provide that bigger support and blocks for Cripps. Both could be very, very interesting if it could be done...
