It might be news to you that there is a world wide shortage of IC Nurses. Guess why?
Mate i work at the hospital i mentioned in my post above. Im giving an insight into whats happening. I watched my ex struggle to get employment as a nurse after graduating here during the outbreak of the pandemic, simply because she was born in Nepal. If you're going to ask a condescending sarcastic question you can cram it.

That's true. I haven't tracked down the arguments and justifications of how HPV vaccine for boys in Australia became mainstream in Australia. But sometimes health authorities around the world tend to group think somewhat.

I do know there was a hell of lot of lobbying by the drugs companies and some of that could have over-spilled into boys being pushed to getting HPV vaccine. This article is possibly a bit out-dated now but gives some history - and includes a quote from Dr. Angela Raffle, a British cervical cancer specialist: “Oh, dear. If we give it to boys, then all pretense of scientific worth and cost analysis goes out the window.”

I can't claim any expertise. I would guess females and homosexual men who have had little sexual experience should get the vaccine.

I agree that the HPV related cancers are slow growing. It makes it hard to test for efficacy as the detection of certain 'abnormal' cells doesn't mean someone will develop cervical cancer. It seems that anyone receiving HPV vaccine is recommended to continue regular pap testing - which already had a high rate of success rate.

It would be difficult to differentiate which boys should get it in their early teens.
And yep, but now 5-yearly, and combined with vaccine has been amazing in reducing cases and mortality from cervical cancer.

Do people still think we're realistically going to come up with a vaccine for COVID-19? Hate to break it to you, but there's a better chance that it's never going to happen. Sorry to have to tell you this, but all the hype you see in the news is just that i.e. hype. A vaccine is realistically NOT EVER going to be developed. The only reason the news tries to hype up the possibility of a vaccine is because it generates views/revenue when in reality it's all just a pipe dream.

So, what should we do? Shall we just keep the entire planet lockdowned? Seems like a realistic and reasonable plan. I mean, think of all the "grandmas" and fat/obese people. We gotta save the grandmas/fat people! The future of our planet/humanity depends on these grandmas/fatties (who have absolutely no acumen/rationality when it comes to what to shove in their gobs)!

And even if we do, hypothetically, come up with a vaccine for COVID-19 (trust me, it will never happen), do you actually think it's possible to vaccinate the entire ******* planet? How much do you think it will cost? Maybe we should just vaccinate non-third-world countries that could actually afford it. But that would be racist! And even if we risk being labeled as racist and only vaccinate non-third-world countries, should we just ban residents/citizens of third world countries from entering our countries. OH MY GAWD! HOW ******* RACIST IS THAT?!?!?!

Anyway, it's a moot point anyway, because a vaccine is NOT going to be developed. Keep dreaming people. Of course, for far-leftists, this is actually a dream come true because they get to keep everyone lockdowned indefinitely as per their perverse fantasies.

Are you ok?

Are you ok?

Do you believe a vaccine for COVID-19 is going to be developed? If you do, I have some choice swampland to sell you.

Let's see who's right. I'm not ALWAYS right. But I did predict Trump's election (and handsomely profiting from it) and the crash of stock markets (thereby avoiding significant losses to my net worth) despite "experts" insisting that you should keep your money in the market while insiders were busy exiting.

So, this is my prediction. There is NO prospect for a vaccine for COVID-19. All you see in the media about a potential vaccine is 100% hype.

Well, we'll have to wait and see, but on your earlier notion of vaccinating the entire planet, we did manage to vaccinate a fair percentage against smallpox, virtually eradicating it.

A vaccine is being developed at present
You may be right but what is your scientific / economic rationale for your assertion?

You see, this post starts out reasonably enough, before it proceeds to go completely off the deep end the further into it you go. Have you ever considered rereading a post, and thinking, "Maybe, just maybe, I've gone a little too far."?

I think they'll come up with a "vaccine", whether it will be effective is another matter. Personally I doubt it, at least three strains of COVID have been reported but I saw another source say "dozens" which would make protection pretty much impossible. IMO the likely outcome is partial immunity will eventually be acquired by populations in the same way that Europeans eventually became partially immune to measles, smallpox etc by the Middle Ages. But when they reached the Americas and Australia, these diseases would devastate the native populations who had never encountered them.

It would be difficult to differentiate which boys should get it in their early teens.

Only a very small % of boys would benefit you would think. The vaccine could be targeted towards those at risk along with education about safe sex practices. But these are moots points. The program has mainly been expanded to boys to enhance herd immunity - for the prevention of cervical cancer, in females only obviously.

And yep, but now 5-yearly, and combined with vaccine has been amazing in reducing cases and mortality from cervical cancer.

The testing has switched from a Pap test every two years looking for abnormal cells to a test every five years looking for HPV. Cervical cancer is rare in Western countries and it usually takes 10 years for abnormalities caused by this virus to develop into cervical cancer. 80% of people have HPV at some point and it's mostly harmless. If a woman tests positive for HPV then they have to have another test for abnormal cells. So maybe they could have changed to testing every 5 years for abnormal cells and got the same level of health cover and cost effectiveness? And spared all these women with false positives from the anguish of thinking they had cancer?

Did you read the link I included? About the aggressive marketing by the drugs companies to promote HPV vaccines.

Not necessarily. Would be a decent % that would be at 'high risk' based on sexual activity.

Males already benefit from herd immunity from high rates of female vaccination.

I'm a medical professional.
That is not the same cost effectiveness.
Cervical screening can be done by GPs.
The testing you are referring to is colposcopy which is by specialist GPs or gynaecologists, i.e. much more expensive, much less accessible.
Positive rates are in the realm of 8-10%, and with the rates of vaccination, the HPV rates should drop markedly over coming years. The link notes the big difference in HPV positivity rates between patients born pre and post 1980.

That's incorrect. A regular GP or a nurse can perform both types of test and the cost is about the same.

The method of sample collection is the same in both the Pap test and the Cervical Screening Test – so if you’ve had a Pap test before, you won’t notice any difference at your screening appointment.

There's been a cost saving by switching from 2 year to 5 year testing intervals. But that could have been done with the existing Pap testing program. And now every positive HPV test requires a secondary test for abnormal cells. Bear in mind that the age profile for cervical cancer means that most women at risk won't have been vaccinated for HPV. And also, not all cervical cancer is caused by HPV so there are now some women at risk because of the changed policy.

You didn't get back to me to say whether you read the link I included - about drugs companies using aggressive lobbying to promote the implementation of HPV vaccines when existing programs for screening for cervical cancer had been highly effective.

Huh?
Lots of that doesn't make sense. A few points

1. Yes pap and CST testing are the same technique. Apologies I misunderstood.

2. Pap is out - the way of testing is HPV (for the virus that will lead to changes) or colposcopy (to further assess for abnormal cells.

3. No we shouldn't be doing 5-yearly pap testing - that is far too long between tests. This is a test of cell changes. Many will be late to be diagnosed. The point of detecting HPV means earlier detection rather than waiting for abnormal cells to develop.

4. Re vaccines - I don't doubt the greed of the pharmaceutical industry. However, there is clear demonstration of the combined benefit of widespread vaccination as well as population-based regular cervical screening.

There’s a very good chance they will develop a treatment for it, so it will become quite a manageable scenario (as they have with HIV).

A healthy level of Vitamin D is a great preventative measure. The hydroxychloroquine and zinc combination seems to work well enough too.

Anti vax is totally rampant now and there is no federal leadership on this issue. The Victorian health minister said yesterday that they represent 1% of Australians well you can tack another zero onto that percentage at least.

Canberra is too busy dealing with yet another Canberra scandal instead of dealing with issues like this. Booting Facebook completely would be a great start, it is the biggest source of disinformation in the world and it is a cancer on numerous Western societies
