Is it that our population cannot sustain so many basketball teams (like the a league and football)?

We could sustain it if the interest was there.

But that level of interest hasn't been there since the mid 90s when basketball was high profile. Once the game lost it's prime time free to air coverage interest died down.

if primetime was to come back, would we see increased interest in the L?

It would help raise the profile for sure, but it's going to be a long term battle.

Back in the 90s you also didn't have as many channels or streaming options to battle with, so now the league has those their footing it's going to be hard to regain it.

Hopefully he re signs, probably on a massively back ended deal. I wouldn't be surprised if he'd be on a million bucks for the final year or two of a 3 or 4 year contract.

And Perth are favourites again.
A lot of water to go under the bridge before you can say that IMO, but potentially losing both Cotton & Kay was massive, so this softens the blow a lot.
Hopefully Kay returns too because he leaves a huge hole to fill and doesn't take up an import spot. That's damn hard to replace.

Did really feel like he was a decent chance at coming back though (or maybe that was just me hoping). Thought he was gone for good before reading a few weeks ago that players had the option of renegotiating and his name was the first I thought of.

It’s still very likely he seriously considered the other offers but how hard would it be to uproot your family (who is from Perth) while being 90% on his way to becoming a citizen. Would have taken a life changing offer to beat all that. Always felt like it was too abrupt to end the way it did and there was more to the story.

Best player in the league by a bit. Hell of a bloke to build a squad around.

Well he definitely needs the rest. NBL and finals, NBA Finals, World Championship, NBL and finals. The bloke absolutely needed the rest. Massive loss.

Fingers crossed we can build a squad pretty much from scratch losing him and Ware(since the finals).
The other guys are all another year older in already old frames as well.

Cooks is a bad loss if he is gone.

Bogut was waiting to see if Bryce signed back up.

Plumlee-Bogut-Cotton-Norton-Steindl starting line up?

<Please note this is firmly tongue in cheek!>

Can't have two mammoths on the floor at the same time, so how about Bogut plays as Plumlee's backup. Limited minutes, high impact, keeps him in touch while preserving his body for Tokyo. Everyone wins. Lock it in.
