Summer of cricket Australia

As Adelaide was never going to miss out on a test against India, a 5 test series with India and Canberra or Hobart getting Afghanistan would have saved the connundrum over Brisbane vs Perth. Yes, Australia hasn't lost a test at Optus Stadium but the sample size is too small to call the ground a fortress like the Gabba is. Australia's record at the Gabba is the Gabba's trumpcard in this decision.

I think it's fair to say that the Gabba is on trial this summer. Yes, the crowds will be good at the Gabba in 2021 for the first Ashes test but if the crowds are poor for the test against India, CA will not schedule marquee tests for the Gabba in the future no matter how good Australia's record is there.

I'm surprised India agreed to a pink ball test considering their lack of experience with the pink ball relative to Australa who are very familiar with the concept. Worst case scenario for them is lose at the Gabba and then fail to come to grips with the pink ball, batting under lights etc and then they'd have to win both of the last two tests to retatin the Boder Gavaskar trophy.

Great that we are hosting Afghanistan - will be interesting to see if tickets are still full price. Ratings into the east coast will be one to watch, too.

And the WACA can't get too shirty- they said from the outset that the ground would still be available for lower-drawing teams. They may have been better off effectively downgrading it to domestic cricket only.

it may be memories of zimbabwe 03/04 where haydos got 380 :)

Dusting off the WACA Ground for a Test match. Format has a bright future.
Versus Afghanistan
Day-night (but only one session after-hours)
First test of the summer
November, with school end of year stuff underway or imminent
Maybe still social distancing
Shithole of a venue

Might get 10,000 across the four days.

Apart from the gabba having a great record for the Aussie side there's no other reason for the match to played here. Perth is a better timezone for both tv audiences, it has better facilities and less jetlag for the Indian players.

Really hope they randomly add another test match and it's played at Perth, especially since it's unlikely that the t20 WC will go ahead.

BCCI should've pressured Aus to play at Perth instead, especially after agreeing to play a pink ball test. Aus have a massive advantage now and wouldn't be surprised if they are up 2-0. Aus supporters would be loving this decision.

Cricket Australia using poor facilities and turnout to strip the WACA of a home test six years ago.

Years of the same from Brisbane: *crickets*

Apparently not, it's at Optus.

I hope it's $5 tickets
The 10,000 they’ll get over 3 days will make for a great scene at Optus

neglecting the ground they have an unbeaten record at for their “fortress”, for shame.

Bit boring having India and NZ back again so soon, but that seems to be the way things are done now.

The following two summers won't feature India or New Zealand, so it kind of balances out.

I would hope the cricket loving city of Perth would get out and support Australia playing Afghanistan in a test match for the first time.

They'll have a chance to watch India very soon I'm sure as we'll probably organise a home and away tour with India every 6 months from now on.
