Still don’t think we have enough young Stars coming through yes Worpel is a good player but more in the Sewell mould no players of the Rioli,Hodge,Mitchell,Franklin the A grades.

Lewis will be a very good player and could well be as good as roughy but think we are missing the Midfield stars and the sml forward stars and lots of pace as Smith,Scully aren’t young also.
With Mitchell’s tutelage I think Worpel will be better than Sewell
Guys like Rioli Hodge Mitchell and Franklin are few and far between. If Day and McGuiness come on quickly we will be well placed in the next two years. We will be looking for some top quality small forwards. Breust will be 30 by then and I don’t think enough of us really appreciate how good he is. His front and centre work is recognised but his play through the middle delivering forward is very very good. Watching some old games you see how often he is involved in scores.

We are despised. Just look at the Kennedy thread on the main board.
Do you reckon every news service going with 'undoubtedly the most successful team of the last 50 years' raised a few hackles?

You are super head*ed if you are lining up such a great person as Kanga.

We are the Collingwood of the 50s. So powerful that other clubs are missing out on premierships. That breeds hatred.

You might be thinking of the Collingwood of the 1930's.
Although the Collingwood of the 50's did win TWO premierships.

They have 4 premierships in the last 80 years!

Look half the selections in there you can argue that there's a similar player/coach out there who hasn't been nominated yet

But it doesn't mean they won't become Legends in future, nor does it mean that there was something "extra legendary" that swayed a decision one way or another

Best coaches since Norm Smith:
Kennedy, Parkin, Jeans, Hafey, Sheedy Malthouse (Matthews & Barassi super players too) & Clarkson currently ineligible

People could argue Jeans, Hafey or Parkin ahead of Sheedy or Kennedy if they wanted but doesn't mean Kennedy or Sheedy aren't valid selections

Is it just sour grapes that 5 of the 9 most successful coaches since 1960 happen to have a strong Hawthorn connection?

SEN selected Clarko over Matthews etc in a recent poll. but Clarko took over a club with a 66% finals wins record Matthews got a flag for a team with a poor recent finals record, and brisbane from the spoon 1998 (voss injured) to threepeat. Its line ball though

Clarko won't be eligible for HOF until 5 years after he retires.

4 flags as coach plus the way he's dramatically changed the game means he's an absolute lock for Legend IMO

Kennedy manufactured a cultural legacy that will far surpass his lifetime. Every single premiership since he relinquished the coaching reins owes something to that legacy. he is the very definition of a legend imo, and without him we wouldn’t have the club that we have now.

Not Apples vs Apples, either.

Brissie had some pretty sweet assistance, whilst we copped 'equalisation'.

Clarko = better.

Clarko will surely be named a Legend himself one day (his record and impact is as big as many on that list) and he would undoubtedly name him as one of, if not his greatest influences.

No doubt.....

And imagine if he wins another flag with this group

Wowee, greatest coach title no doubt.

Looking at the guy, I feel a little bad*...he doesn't look...quite right.

* A little

Agree, aside from his deplorable spelling, something about him suggests he is not playing with a full deck, Roo loose in the top paddock, lights on but no one home, lift doesn't go to the top floor, etc....

If you constantly compare the team to one which achieved 3 premierships in a row, of course you're not going to see equality of talent in our current list. There's not a team in the league which compares even close to favourably with that team, even Richmond.

Compare us to the rest of the league as it sits right now.

This.... we don't have to better than Hawks 2013-2015 to be Premiers.

We just have to be better than 17 other clubs in 2020 (or whatever other season we are contending in)

Look Lethal is just about THE legend of the game as a combo of probably the greatest player and a great coach but I doubt he would have coached Clarkos list’s to 4 flags.

also bigfooty 2010-12 wasn’t nearly as complimentary of the then hawks list as it is in hindsight. I think some current players have enough upside to have a few out and out a graders (but it won’t be universally agreed to in bigfooty)

we’ve had similar thing with recent rating of the tigers, who now have two premierships
