Geelong's well past it 2014 beat Hawthorn in 2014 as well. Can't have been all that great ;)
How do you keep posting this as if it's evidence of anything?

We beat you 2 games out of 3 across 07 and 08, with our inferior side. You beat us 1 game out of 3 in 2014 with your inferior side. Get the picture now?

Richmond beat Hawthorn in 2013 and 2015 while Hawthorn were at their peak.
Those Richmond sides were far inferior to our 2017 and 2019 premiership sides.

Verdict - Richmond 2017/2019 > Geelong 2007/09/11 and Hawthorn 2013/14/15.

Geelong. Just on quality of opposition.

Hawks: Fell over the line against Freo and then West Coast and Swans didn't even show up. Still think the 91 Hawks side was one of the best I've seen.

Cats: 07 played Port (if you can believe it) I think 08 was the snore-fest we all watched Hawks run the ball over the line (yawn), 09 was a good one, 10, and 2011 (Played Collingwood lol, lets face it, the maggies haven't won anything since the early 90s).

The finals system sucks. We rarely get the best two teams in the GF.

True, but it's one of the things I love about footy - the openness of September. That said, there have been a few years where the two best teams across the year did meet in the Big Dance but one just straight-up demolished the other - Richmond vs Adelaide and Hawthorn vs Sydney come to mind.

That shoulda-but-didn't feeling is a big part of what makes footy so heartbreaking.

Best of 7 throughout the finals?

Prelims we nearly always see the 4 best teams. Problem is when the best 2 teams are playing eachother.

That has been the case quite a few times over the years.

When was the last time the two best teams met in a knockout final before the GF? Normally there either isn’t two clearly best teams or they meet in the GF. And the times they don’t, it’s generally because one of them got upset in a prelim.

Lol is this thread a joke?

2007 is the most dominant Grand Final team in AFL/VFL/VFA history to date

So true. Still remember the great prelims in 99 Ess V Carl and 94 North V Cats. Head and shoulders better games than the crap we watched a week later.

Richmond also beat Hawthorn in 2008 and 2012. The funny thing is, whenever Richmond beat Hawthorn during the premiership years the Hawks would go on a long winning streak.

mate - you played Port.
I understand they were far from the best runner up in history, but that team was still half full of premiership players from 3 years earlier.....Anyway the question is who would win, & our footy from Round 6 onwards that year was as good as it will be played.

Hawthorn tended to already have top 4 locked up when those losses occurred in the last 5 or 6 rounds of the year. Tigers fans like to talk about their decent record against us over that period, but most of those wins were late season wins against a team that had already locked in a double chance and had bigger fish to fry. They conveniently forget about the games earlier in the season when the whips were cracking, and Hawthorn needed to get wins on the board. Like in 2014 where we thumped them by 11 goals. I think tigers had perhaps 1 win against during that period where top 4 wasn't already decided.

In any case, in terms of this thread. Despite what I've said above, I do think Richmond matched up quite well on us during that period (your Coach helped), and I'd have felt less comfortable playing a final against Richmond than some of the teams actually making top 8 during that time. I also think Hawthorn matched up quite well against Geelong's 2007/2008 sides, and that the 2014 side would have done so to an even greater degree.
