Should never have lost this game, and we did.

But we aren't gonna lose this Saturday.

Watching the replay video above LOB did a couple of really great things last game

1. Perfectly executed theatre with late hit after mark at 5:00. Kicked the goal, generates momentum.
2. Amazing tackle when stationary against a player with forward motion at 5.30. another lifter, the team surges again.

The kid brings that on a much more consistent basis, we will start winning a lot more games

It’s amazing how far we were down all game but we had the belief to keep coming. This will be a very handy characteristic of our team in the future. No one can put us away. Never.

Some here will disagree , however i still think 2020 should be somewhat of a development year, not as much as previous years but i still think we need to get games into dow, obrien, williamson etc . I think these players will be key players for us in the future and will determine our rebuild success, along with other top draft picks like weiters, sps, fisher etc who are ahead with their development.

Let me know what you think.

I'm feeling very confident about this game and this season. Look at the team. It's the best it has looked in a long while. I'm predicting a 38 point victory, Betts with 2, Martin 2, Harry 2 and Cunners one of the best on ground with 3. Cripps with a lazy 19 contested possessions and the Jones boy manic. Pittonet will break Maxies nose..... accidentally.

This season we need to start winning more games. Yes, we are still developing but need to show improvement in the win/loss ratio. We also need to see more and more cohesive play. More of a team development year rather than a player development year imo.

Thought I didn't give a pizza maker's toss about footy returning
And yet
The rabid adoring bluebaggers supporter within is awakening.
Butterflies, nerves, excitement...
What will one wear to sit on the couch??
Have I made enough molasses and lucerne dip????
Should I invite that little git shetland guy who is a stubborn Deez supporter just because his thoroughbred friend is?
Oh mee oh myyyy
Such pleasant dilemmas.

Mooooo you blooody wonderful blueboys!!!
BTBFFS!!!!!!!!!

I can only think of 2 but I’m sure there’s a third. Might be a whitnall maybe? The other one is Charlie Mckay. We’ve also got Archi Manton in the VFL squad that could be eligible again he had a slight rise in fame late after a few good TAC games but will need to make every moment count once VFL returns.
Tom Silvagni, Charlie McKay and Mackenzie Hogg are the three alluded to from this year's draft class.

Do people really believe that Saturday's team will be selected on the performances of our first game? That's history, everyone starts from square 1 after lock-down.
What else apart from the condition of players returning after lockdown and how they’ve been training in last few weeks do you go by? R1 and preseason performances along with how players performed late last year will likely be taken into consideration as well.

It has been ages since the last game true. but I still hope some of the players got a bit of a rocket up them. Intensity just was not there. Concerning for a round 1 clash after long pre season.

The poor start to r1 game was terrible to see after all the positivity that was coming out of the club during preseason. Let’s hope this issue has been discussed vigorously with the players and that they are aware it will not be tolerated by selection committee.

I don't think too many will want anything bar best 22 on the field. However with about 32 players with claims to that grouping, it is to be hoped we will give opportunity to those in the mix. It is quite imperative to assess our up and coming youngsters, particularly midfielders and our young ruckmen.

With likely list reductions at season's end, spots will be at a premium. We need to assess Dow, Stocker, Philp and perhaps Ramsay along with gauging the trajectory of Setterfield, Gibbons, O'Brien, Jack Silvagni (the mid) and the "fit" of SPS, Fisher and Cuningham. Personally hoping for a couple of the kids to elevate to definite best 22, with growth to come. This would alleviate the need for buying in midfield experience, particularly if Murph and Ed can maintain optimum levels.

Big Matty Kreuzer is going to be touch and go to continue, decisions will be so much easier if both Pittonet and De Koning can show themselves as AFL ready.
If MK continues, I want it to be for the right reasons, not because there is no suitable replacement

So, more assessment based than development, perhaps if we are to digress from best available.

Exactly! And if it doesn’t change, they get dropped. That’s what depth is for. Talent is one thing but intensity should be a given.

Setterfield was one of our worst in round 1, no doubt (not good in Preseason games either). He just seemed to lack intensity which was the biggest concern. I thought last year overall, coming back from injury, that he was good and I would like to see him have a good run of games, I’m pretty sure he will too.

He is a player I had high hopes for through preseason, it would be massive for us if he can take some big strides in the midfield.
Every time Setterfield is mentioned, I think back to his game against Adelaide last year. He was everywhere, silky, a magic blind turn and looked a player. We've seen that he can play, just need him to start doing it with consistency.

Dow was in the round 1 side and I don't have Philp taking his spot, so I'm not sure that assumption flows logically.

There is room for both as well as all those names you have mentioned.

Have to agree to disagree on this one! I can't see room for both Dow & Philp personally.

If we're talking forward line we have Eddie/Cunners/Martin/McKay/Cas/Gov and maybe JSOS. That's 7 players already so i can't see both Dow & Philp squeezing in. Dow has had little impact as a forward and Philp is a debutant.

I also don't see space for both in the midfield...though it is a possibility with Fisher injured and if they decide to drop someone like Setterfield/Gibbons (i doubt it though).

Of course R1 isn't everything, but, notwithstanding injuries to certain players the team that was picked for R1 was picked for a reason, and you'd think whatever these reasons were they would likely still exist. And it's not like much has happened since R1, I mean players haven't been able to train as a large group until just recently and even then full list sessions and intra club games have been restricted. So it is unlikely a player would have burst out of the gate since R1 and put their name up in lights. I would be very surprised if there are more than 2 or 3 changes. Betts and MCKay come in obviously. Kruezer and Fisher go out. Outside of that they potentially need to find a spot for Pittonet.

I think shorter games means playing guys out of position and in a makeshift role is not on and playing guys who are more specialist as being the go.

Talk Philp might play, I don't think it will happen but I can see it. If he brings pace, pressure and good ball use I can see him playing over a few who played round 1.

We need outside players who can play that role well. We can probably get away with some quick outside young players if our inside players fire and they are up to it.

Dow doesn't play IMO, he's an inside mid who's not proven to be ready for it yet. His outside game is poor. Pressure and kicking are no good so can't see us playing him forward. We might make a bold move and throw him in the center but I don't think we will.

Setterfield under pressure. Needs to step up. Gibbons under pressure, needs to step up with a lot of forwards available or do we play him in the midfield where he's always played.

I think with a healthy list we need to be realistic about where guys can and can't play and select based on that. No makeshift selections or just fitting a bloke in, must genuinely be able to play that role.

Would rather play a kid who is a forward and can play there over a mid who is just filling a spot and not doing well there for where this list is at.

Agree 100% which is why Dow is a definite out for me...just has next to no impact as a forward and we aren't playing him as an inside mid anyway.

The shorter game time may also make us feel at ease dropping a small like Dow for McKay.
