Autopsy Rd 2 vs Melbourne Blues go down by 1 point after disastrous first half

I'll get crucified for this, but murphy gets tossed around like a rag doll, doesn't tackle, and just jogs after his opponent, I wouldn't be starting him in the middle at the beginning of games. I can understand if we lose on talent, but fu** me not having a go like that is atrocious. The banner said this one is for the fans, and then they dish that quarter up. I would seriously put a broom through the joint. Anyone who has been there longer than 3 or 4 years should be fired

even at his peak opposition coaches would instruct their tagger that they can torch him going the other way.

He’s still a sublime user of the ball and would probably be top 5 in kicking at the club, but if he loses his ability to be damaging going forward then his liability as a defensive player will be problematic.

I know Martin missed the potentially game winning goal but geez he’s a class above anything we have with the ball in hand

Pitto worked himself into the game after an awful first quarter, which set the tone for our putrid first 35 minutes. Did well after that. Tough debut

Walsh’s second year blues don’t seem to be going anywhere

Weitering will be in AA squad come seasons end

Cripps battled and is in desperate need for support...take ed out of the centre and Cripps is a sitting duck. Setters isn’t up to it imo

Hopefully we are better for the run

Would love to see willo and fisher back next week

Nearly all right.
Weiters will be AA centre half back. Lock.

What I don't get is how indecisive we were early. We get a clean ball, we almost go to the first option but then we see something else and in the same motion as kicking it we somehow decide not to kick the ball or to shank the kick. It's not something you see every day in footy.

I was bemused by this as well. Never seen so many instances of players getting the ball then just completely cancelling their kick and dropping it on the ground for the opponent to scoop up and take away. Was truly bizarre, and I was expecting the ump to start calling a throw or incorrect disposal..

Is it not the coaching staff's job to have the players ready for a game?

If it was a rare occurrence I'd agree with you but who have we started well against under Teague?

Okay, pull the players out and put the coaches in then.

its not a marathon are you run against yourself,
your playing against another team.

What do you attribute the slow starts to?

Cold mornings, flannelette sheets, unwelcome 3am pee breaks, phone notifications and watching youtube while I have my coffee. Thanks for caring.

That's some stupid logic To put the coaches on the field.

If you don't think conditioning and mental preparation for games isn't responsiblity of the coaching staff you know 0 about professional sports.

Not much anyone can do to help you understand that besides tell you to research sports psychology. For this even a Google search will help you.

When will ever find belief..

When we find another two top shelf mids to help Crippa.
I had a conversation with a recently retired Blue at my cricket club about our shit starts (pre covid convo, so classified as recent) and his belief is that at the start of a game when all is equal, the midfield with most class/talent/hardness will get on top. As the game goes on, talent and class come back to the field a bit as fatigue and game patterns etc kick in.

Until we can add some real class and established talent to the midfield, we will continue to push shit up hill.

While the team struggled early Murphy cost us dearly, just let them get away with the ball too easily while losing his feet purposefully to protect himself. The umpires won't even pay him a free he plays for them so much..
Poor leadership.

The sooner he is gone the better unfortunately, as loyal as he has been.

Why do people keep potting yes I will say it Legends of our club and loyal to an end give it a rest

John Barker has to go. I'm sorry but our spread from the contest is piss poor. Every single time we don't win the clearance you see about 5 opposition players all free on the outside. And I still can't tell if our ability to run out the game so well despite being 1 down is because of our fitness or because we put no effort in Q1...

To Frumpy: Four years ago we undertook a long term rebuild, gutted the list, there were no expectations of anything, let alone honourable losses. People are turning into richmond supporters of four years ago with the microwaving of memberships, knashing of teeth, tearing of clothes. Yes we could/should of won that, and if Jack and Paddy kicked straight in the Richmond game we probably win that one too. Imagine the preposterous statements these people would be making if we were two wins... But we are not, we lost two winnable games, you don't think Crippa is hurting, or Jack, or Mac, each one of them could have sealed that game tonight. It's a team sport, and this team will learn from these losses, yes it must be in their head, it's all about how they come out, both games we win the next three quarters after a ridiculously inept start. I believe in the future, and I've been a bagger for 45 years so I've seen it all......

Pathetic. Margin is irrelevant. Bottom 4. Season over. Our players are soft. We need a new president that can develop a ruthless culture.
Pittonet, Martin, Cunningham and the backs pass
Weitering excellent
The rest not afl

Another diabolical first quarter. Solid effort thereafter, created plenty of chances but undermined by lack of polish and composure. Reckon almost everyone had a moment where they messed something up and if they'd done it differently we might have snagged the win. That's a close loss for you.

Weitering excellent. Pittonet and Martin good. SPS still can't seem to kick long. McGovern -- I keep waiting for him to really show up but it never seems to happen.

Murphy / Curnow / Simpson might not be the players they once were but we'd be a poorer side without them.

Cripps needs to work on his set shots at goal this week, esp as he is captain and needs to go snag those crunch shots for team morale.

Also Docherty made a couple of stange and disappointing decisions in the final minutes of the game..

Wasn't the finest afternoon for our club's on field leaders.
