16 minute quarters.
Since the turn of the last decade the bloke has been told to go out at the start of each quarter, push hard for 20 then come off for a spell.
Now he just pushes through from siren to siren.

I know endurance athletes will come into the fore with shorter quarters but I think having a ruck who runs all day will have a higher impact than a midfielder or forward. The game isn’t long enough for them to do their work in what usually is red time.
With Goldi normal time is his red time.

The thing I loved today with Goldy was the 2nd and 3rd efforts. A couple of times he made a blue with a handball but simply willed himself to that opponent to smother their kick or handball. Reckon I saw a smother at least twice if not more today

Freak endurance for a big man.

Where does he rank at the club in terms of the best ruckman in our history?

Teasdale’s record is second to none - 4 Syd’s on the trot and a Brownlow.

Dempsey played his best footy at the Dogs and came to North in his 30’s.

They both won a Syd. Todd might win another this year the way he has started. Todd probably nudges him for longevity.

Mckernan? Mckernan’s best would be better than Goldy, but Goldy’s consistency and longevity would probably have him covered.

Goldy is/was a far superior pure ruckman than Corey.

Corey is one of the better forward/rucks of the last few decades, but Corey dropped away as a player when he was relied on as a pure ruckman later in his career and even when we tried to turn him into a full time FF.

He worked best when he was a free roaming burst ruckman and forward.

Goldy would of mauled Corey in the hitouts if they played each other in the ruck all game, he’s got almost 2” on him.

Goldy’s 2015 was a piece of art. Wins the Brownlow if it hadn’t become a mids-only-apply event

McKernan was kind of like modern Paddy Ryder, but a much better version.

Could change the game in the ruck in bursts then move forward and be the second best forward in the game behind Carey. (Or the best at one stage according to Mike Sheehan)

Agree. We’ve been bloody lucky with the quality of ruckman we’ve had over the journey. It’s a testament to Goldy that he is up there with the best of them

He'd be up there with Teasdale and Johnny Lewis. Cable said Nolan was the best tap ruckman he ever roved to, but at Mick's size he was never going to have a sustained run.
Corey ? Was he a pure ruckman ? On occasion yes.

We had a period of poaching ruckman;
Keenan
Dempsey
Mossop
John
Porter
Burton
Sure l've missed one in there.

I dunno about history, but he's the best ruckman I have seen at North after Dempsey, and IMO, Dempsey should have been in the AFL TOTC.

Imagine how demoralising it must be to be getting a bath and then have to come off for a spell and have the bloke giving you a bath never come off and continue to bath you and your mates throughout the day...
