Expansion The Gold Coast have been underestimated

That’s a ridiculous argument. Why didn’t GWS get a priority pick last year?

it’s a competition, all clubs need to play on the same rules and build their lists equally. Let the best team win.

you have no fans have a priority pick lmao 😂
I'm comparing them to Carlton not GWS as Carlton and GC have been terrible for years. Carlton has history and plenty of fans. Sponsors aren't going away for them. Sponsors could go away from GC if they are terrible and nobody watches their games. Then afl has to support them and eventually enough will be enough and they will be folded

That was the AFL’s decision to put a team in a location where they don’t have a lot of support and aren’t a draw card for sponsors.

The Gold Coast suns are a rival club to all other 17 clubs. They should play by the same rules.

This is a competition, the league should not conspire to have certain teams winning.

lol it's the AFL....if the competition was fair GC and GWS would have been North and Bulldogs, instead of new teams and every team would play each other twice, also grand final would be at highest ranked teams ground, but it's not and AFL wants their new kids (GC and GWS) to do well

Why should they be the bulldogs and North??

yes I agree, the Grand Final should be played in the highest ranked teams state. I said that in numerous threads previously.

The league needs to be fair, they can’t make it easier for certain clubs to build their list. Gold Coast are no different to any other club.

why bulldogs and North? Just a guess on the 2 teams getting propped up the most in Vic, may not be correct, if not then replace with the 2 clubs needing the most money from AFL to survive.

League needs to be fair? Yes it should be, but AFL has proven time and time again they care more about $$$ than fairness

No club needs moved from a Victoria.

The AFL makes a fortune, it makes so much money it creates teams out of thin air and puts them in locations where they don’t have supporters or a strong following of Aussie Rules football.

other than the Grand Final always at the MCG, certain clubs getting draft advantages, the league is reasonably fair.

If teams are moved from Victoria instead of creating new teams then there would be less teams and make it possible to play every team home and away in a season, which would make the fixture redundant.

As it currently stands the AFL fixtures games based on $$$, than fairness, see how many times Collingwood, Essendon etc play in Geelong and Tasmania.

No one needs to lose there team. They would be 80000 paying members losing their club. The AFL didn’t have everyone playing each other twice when there were 16 teams in the league.

This is the wrong thread to be talking about this. But the grand Final should be played at highest ranked teams home state, every club has the same amount of home games and they play them where they want. Every club has the same draft opportunities.

As for the Suns, they have been playing arguably one of the most exciting brands of footy in the league. Rowell and king look like stars. As far as I’m aware, the draft concessions they got aren’t performing they well, they aren’t the reason the Suns are looking good. The draft concessions they got were not needed.

Anderson #pick 2 was a concession and he is playing well. Budarick (concession -- ability to prelist academy players) had a great game, last week too. Flanders (concession pick 11) is doing well and will get games this year. So I wouldn't say they weren't needed.

It's not correct.

By your reasoning we should be eradicating GWS, Gold Coast, Brisbane, St Kilda and Port Adelaide.

We receive the same AFL distributions as Melbourne and not much more than Sydney in reality.

You would also be the first person to complain about a Gold Coast vs North Melbourne Friday night game if it was on.

Forgetting the fixture, the commercial benefits of the league aren't in any way distributed evenly either.

Barely even noticed Anderson today.
Budarick looks a good player.
Flanders not playing yet.

those 2 players aren’t the reason GC beat a premiership contender in West Coast by 7 goals and smashed Adelaide. Gold Coast don’t need concessions to be good

Anderson had a good game last week but was quiet this week, they would have gotten Budarick anyway and Flanders hasn't played yet. None of their concessions were why they won today.

They've had a huge natural uplift in a broad range of young players.

The Darwin zone and the 2020 and 2021 PP's should/will get rescinded imo. The Darwin zone was issued to them to enable them to add talent to the list in the cheapest possible way, it has nothing to do with the games development.

They are a fair chance to make finals.

The fact the AFL awarded them the 2020 #11 for use in 2019 already looks like a disgrace given they let them trade it as a future pick without knowing what we know now, it should of been off the table pending the 2020 annual review....

A club bouncing into finals the year after they are awarded the Priority #2 pick and 2-3 other concessions should hopefully mean we see the end of PP for a long time.

Craig Cameron really finessed the AFL on that one lol

I think you mean Stephen Wells.

They will be the big winner at the end of it, not the GC given how much you overpaid to get Sharp.

2020 will be a shite draft, pick 11 will probably get pushed back into the 20s with NGA/FS selections and the NAB league season is only 6 weeks this year while we get a top 15 pick in Alex Davies for peanuts so not too worried about that trade tbh

Pick 20? Lol, I don't think so.

EDPS has it currently at 2, with the second bid coming at 10.

So pick #13.

Yes let's just point out that the two best young players for us yesterday were Rowell and King and neither were recruited through the concession package we received at the end of last year. We got Rowell as a result of finishing last on the ladder in 2019 (remember?) and we secured pick 6 in 2018 by trading our captain Steven May (and another organic top 10 pick we drafted in Kolodjashnij) to the Dees which led to us drafting Ben King.

If people want to complain about concessions then at least wait until Noah Anderson or Sam Flanders (yet to debut) have big games. Exclusive access to Budarick was technically a concession as well but we were always going to match a bid for him which was predicted to come in the 20s/30s last year so all that would have meant is we may not have been able to draft Jeremy Sharp (pick 27) who hasn't played an AFL game to date. Either way, Budarick was going to be on our list with or without the concession package and matching a bid for him wasn't going to affect our ability to recruit Rowell with our organic pick 1.

I think your post is everyone point.

I.e you didn't need the concessions in the first place.

People said we were given too much in our initial list build and look what happened. Nothing is guaranteed in this league and I'm not getting carried away after two solid games like some people in this thread seem to be.

You probably were.

I don't think 'what happened' was a result of anything other than the GC's own doing.

Certainly some problems with injuries to young players. (Can we get some PP's because it always happens to us as well?).

You recruited the wrong senior players compared to how GWS went about it.

I don't think anyone is hanging shit on you, however I don't think it's up to the other clubs to essentially bail you out for bad decisions in the form of draft concessions (when in reality you aren't that bad)
