News Conor McKenna tests positive for COVID-19 - Wait, what?

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

It's complete guesswork and the AFL are praying for a miracle and just hoping that no other player test positive, and that McKenna wasn't infectious due to his low reading. McKenna's sweat would have been transferred to the ball all session and then onto all of the other players who then potentially touch their faces.

It's not the AFL making these decisions, it's DHHS.

Dear Members,

Thank you for your patience and support in recent days.

As I am sure you can all appreciate, this has been a very sensitive and delicate issue, and as a club, the health and wellbeing of our players and staff, particularly Conor, has been our number one priority throughout this period.

The public nature of our industry has made this task even more difficult but we are now pleased to have reached an outcome relating to Conor McKenna and his positive COVID-19 test.

Overnight, the club received formal notification from the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) that only one Essendon player has been deemed as having close contact with Conor McKenna.

Following Conor’s positive result to Covid-19 on Saturday afternoon, the Club provided the DHHS with a meticulous overview of our training activities, meetings and other relevant data, as well as comprehensive, documented training footage.

As a result, the DHHS identified James Stewart as the only player who has been deemed as having close contact under the DHHS guidelines and James will be required to self-isolate for a 14-day period. After being re-tested on Monday afternoon, James pleasingly returned a negative result.

The club will continue to provide support to Conor and James through this period in preparation for when they return to the club and training with the playing group in 14 days' time.

In addition, all players and staff underwent testing on Monday and these results have all since returned negative.

The Club also wishes to thank the DHHS for their significant work in recent days and for providing this information in a timely and professional manner.

The Club will formally recommence training on Wednesday morning at The NEC Hangar in preparation for the Round 4 game against Carlton on Saturday evening.

It's not the AFL making these decisions, it's DHHS.

Essendon, the AFL and the Dept of Health & Human Services in a conspiracy to expose a large number of people to COVID-19, in order that Essendon may field a stronger team against Carlton this week.

We're through the looking glass here, people.

You don't think they haven't been trying to find a cure for the common cold?
Hundreds of different viruses cause that, and it’s not like it’s ever the main focus of the world at any point. This is a far less diverse illness, and the whole world is trying to find something for it. The amount of time dedicated to finding a vaccine for this coronavirus would far outweighed the total time on all others.

So going by that logic let’s say two teams play on the Sunday. On the Tuesday a guy receives a positive test. He may have been infected anytime from previous Fri/Sat let’s say. Do they then quarantine every player from that game that tackled or was tackled by that player?

I think the bloke clearly said he was no expert and was just giving his understanding, right or wrong of it, you are just coming across as a bit of a twerp.
Im not panning him - im panning the afl who have f}%#} this up badly and are now trying to tell a virus how it should behave.

Apparently not, they just pick and choose. It's blatantly incorrect that James Stewart was the only player Mckenna was in close contact with.

Mers is a coronavirus
Sars is a coronavirus.
SARS and MERS had higher death rates and died out before they spread widely - specifically to places like the US and Europe.
But they had one for SARS anyway
The knowledge gained from that no doubt helps the scientific community now.

Gerard trying to get Essendon v Melbourne moved to tomorrow night but Sam Edmund reported to him the AFL and Melbourne certainly won’t be doing that as Melbourne’s focus is now on Geelong.

Was very interesting listening to Gerard’s meltdown, and although I agree with him I swear he almost cried not getting his way.

Yeah so Essendon dictate who is considered to be a close contact right? Lol.

The whole purpose of setting up cameras everywhere is for this exact reason. So that it can be reviewed by the DHHS.
