I wonder if that means they’re not going to buy Smalling

Roma have reportedly made a breakthrough in their attempt to sign Chris Smalling permanently, after agreeing a deal with Manchester United.

The centre-back has rediscovered his form in the Serie A after joining on loan from Old Trafford last summer.

Following a stellar season, both Roma and Smalling were keen to make the move permanent.

And according to Roman radio station Tele Radio Stereo, a deal has been agreed which will see the defender go back out on loan next season before Roma sign the 30-year-old.

It is understood Roma will effectively buy Smalling this summer, with the payment being stretched out over two seasons ending in 2022.

The Italians are said to have agreed a deal worth £15-16million.

United had been holding out for around £25m but appear to have dropped their valuation.

If they dont get him this summer they'll probably get him cheaper next summer.

Perhaps. But then perhaps there’s an English bidding war. His mates at United, Klopp at Pool, money at Chelsea.

Either way, say he goes for 20m less next year. Over the course of the next 12 months you probably almost break even by having him in the squad when taking everything into account

it seems a bit misguided laughing at united, for not spending 30m quid of the 16 year old at Birmingham; if he comes good they will probable buy him in a couple years anyway

as for Havertz it seems a very obvious Bayern transfer - they dont often let the young world class germans slip by. if Chelsea get him its an excellent signing but again 'lol @ united' seems a bit odd for havertz too

i cant sancho saying for long

certainly not until '22 - if united dont buy him they probable will mid season - like Bruno and other dortmond players iirc (Kagawa?)

those two kids are not mates i think; but sancho is mates with rashford, greenwood apparently...

why do you not want Hakimi? seems strange zizu doesnt want him back

With hakimi - this may not be the popular opinion, but after watching him week in week out, I think he’s not as good as everyone believes. He’s very weak defensively, and his decision making can be quite poor. If you look at our first goal against Red Bull last week, Brandt drew the defender wide, made space, and then crossed straight to Reyna. If that was Hakimi, he would have run like a bull directly at the defender, closing the space in the box, and we may not have scored.

I also really rate Morey... like really rate. He’s almost a carbon copy of Guerrerio - which is the sort of player I like on our team. If we have Hakimi and Meunier on the team, he’s probably getting loaned out, which would suck. I’d have hoped we learnt our lesson with Alex Isak - if we’d played him instead of Batshuyai, we’d have two absolute top BL strikers on our squad right now

No doubt you'll hang onto him for another 12 months hoping he changes his mind. As long as he doesnt sulk and let it effect his performance you'll still get a decent fee next summer.

When was the last bidding war?

Does the burden of proof lie with me to show that they’ve happened before?

Either way I have no data to suggest this. But if the player wants to return to the UK, and Liverpool are offering him good money, you’d think UTD would join the party. RM will probably also have a crack.

Anyway - it’s all conjecture. But losing 20-30m for not selling him earlier I think is looking at the small picture. How much is he worth to the clubs development over the next 5 years if he stays is the question. I’d much rather keep him and cop the loss

Not sure that’s how it works

Sancho doesn’t need to be sold, and he’s professional enough to last his contract. Reckon with a young Brit here, they’ll offer him a pay rise to stay until end of next season when the market is closer to normal, and promise to sell him then. Would be a win for Sancho (money and British mate), Bellingham (British mate) and the club (one more year of Sancho, good to get Bellingham settled in)

I really hope that Hakimi doesn’t come back

apparently sancho will be off either this year or next at the worst get him for free in a few years

You might but Dortmund won't. The facts are this time next year he is into the last 12 months of his deal and if he doesn't have a great season the loss will be more than 30m and if he has another great season his value isn't going to increase with that long left. The best time for Dortmund to sell is this market because this is where they'll make the most money from the sale.

If he’s worth 90m this season he’ll also be 90m next given how COVID 19 is affecting the market. Watzke already said be won’t sell for under 100m this season so I’d assume that’s what’s going to happen

Also, he’ll never be allowed to run down his contract. It won’t happen. He’ll be sold this year or next. Most likely next
