In the Richmond v Hawthorn game last Thursday there were only 5 'around the ground' ball-ups for the entire game. No other stoppages apart from throw-ins and centre square bounces to start a qtr or after a goal.

There was only 1 for the entire second half, and that was a 'secondary' bounce after a centre bounce wasn't cleared.

It didn't seem especially un-congested, but the tackle counts were very low for both sides.

I don't know if these stats are available but that has to be somewhere in the vicinity of an all time low?

A very accurate first half at Metricon Stadium tonight – GC 7.0 to Freo 6.0.

What’s the highest aggregate half time total where two teams have kicked no behinds at half time?

I hope I haven’t gone too early!

Beat me to the punch in asking that question....i don't think that's happened in a first half in modern footy. At least in my memory from the 70's.

Richmond have been the best side past 3 years 2017-19 - and have got the 2 premierships to show for it

What i want to know - is from round 1 2017 up until and including todays game - whats their win/loss record away from the MCG - so thats not just interstate games - can be Victorian games but not played at MCG

Thus total games played away from MCG for that period - - their total wins and total losses

The Channel 7 broadcast at half time mentioned that this is the first time both teams have been "behindless" at half time.
(Behindless is my "word".)

Sounds like a pointless exercise.

Wonder what it's like having no bum.

This may have been addressed elsewhere, but are the games where limited crowds are allowed, still recorded officially as zero attendance?

I wonder if there's a threshold that the AFL have decided on (even though I would very much dislike that, as it's subjective). You can't see the 10,000 fans at the Lions game tonight and then still call that zero.

Grand Final crowds from the early 2000s have an asterisk next to them due to the MCG redevelopment; I see this as being similar.

We've now had three whole rounds since a team, Port Adelaide 17.8 (110) on June 13, has kicked 100 points. What is the longest run of games without a century score? Indeed, has this happened since the First World War?

When was last league season that after 5 rounds the bottom team had an average team score no higher than 43 points a game ?
Had a quick browse of AFL Tables site and see in 1953 after 5 rounds Hawthorn were averaging about the same.
Hawks were even worse in 1950. Scored lower and percentage under 40 after 5 rounds. They went through 18 round season losing every game.
Guess they were called the Mayblooms back then.

1960 AFL Tables says average score per team was 71.x pts has Rds 14 to 17 ie 4 rounds where nobody kick 100 pts. There were only 18 rounds.

There were 3 years between 1946 and 1963 that teams average 70.x pts per game but they only had 2 and 3 consecutive rounds. Didn't look at pre WWII.

With all the fuss this upcoming round about Richmond possibly missing 8 players from last years premiership side - what is the most changes from a premiership team in the following season?
I imagine it will relate to something weird (like COVID) - maybe clubs going broke, salary cap issues, teams having a bad premiership hangover and deciding to tank, etc.

I'm sure 8 won't be the record.

To show how easy it is to find instances of more out. Just randomly off top of my head picked a season after a premiership year of my own club.
We beat Richmond in 1982 to take the premiership.
Round 4 the next season we got 10 different players missing from grand final side of year before. No weird thing, just players injured or suspended.
I am sure in the many seasons of league history there will be a lot more that can be found.

The fact that we can never go back to having crowds in excess of 110,000 or even 105,000 at the MCG does not mean modern-day grand final attendances have an asterisk beside them. The AFL Record Season Guide does not put an asterisk next to their grand final figures, Paul's AFL Tables website does not use asterisks either, so I would therefore ask: in what context are there asterisks next to modern-day grand final figures? Who is using asterisks in this sense?

Before that it was 1923 R14-16, then 1923 R5-12 (8 rounds).

Longest run is 19 h&a rounds, from 1916 R6 to 1917 R12, but there were only 4 & 6 teams respectively in those seasons.
