I'm including boundary and goal which aren't included in the majority seniors games in VAFA. The NFNL get all umpires allocated in all grades boys and girls for example.

Further to that, the issue the VAFA has is it is so big. A few years back the VAFA had over 100 goal umpires. So A-D1 all had goal umpires every week and D2-4 depended on locality.

The problem you then have is good umpires not getting the games they like and other umpires being sent to horrible division grounds every week not enjoying it.

Unfortunately the simple fact is it’s not sustainable to have such a large contingent. Even the field umpires which are well coached is full of disgruntled umpires in the divisions who feel they should be higher.

You can either keep doing division games and travel all over Melbourne or walk into the EFNL or NFNL or SFL and start umpiring their top grade and not travel as much.

WH,

Victoria still has had the most tests per capita and has the 2nd lowest infection rates per capita (only behind NT).

I know Maxie, just trying to having a laugh in what is a pretty sh!tty situation! I still maintain what I said last week - VAFA will play unless the government says no. The likelihood of government intervention changes each day.

For a smart guy, you’re really keen on ignoring the recent trend.

It’s obvious that statistics of overall infection rate since it started appear to have us in good shape. However that is because we were very strict and dampened it during April/May.

Clearly the past 2 weeks has seen infections significantly on the rise in Victoria (and nowhere else in Australia). We have been shut out from WA/SA/Qld whilst every other state will be allowed to travel there in the next week or so.

You don’t seem keen to acknowledge we have had a spike which places our state in the worst position in the country, and its the current state of COVID in Victoria which determines policy, not how it was before mid -June.

7 in hospital and one on a ventilator. No massive increase since "spike".

Without recycling a perennial discussion, leagues like WRFL maintain full umpire panels by having them double up on reserves/seniors and using kids for boundary and goals. I only ever doubled up in VAFA games on the first and second day of finals.

Whilst most goal umpires don‘t like doubling up and preferred to do reserves sat/seniors Sunday than do a double header on same day during finals.

EFL tried doubling up 19s and seniors but that doesn’t happen anymore I don’t think.

Deaths / hospital admissions - no spike
Cases - spike

History across the world has shown there’s a 7 - 14 day lag between cases and hospital admissions surging

True that. I did a few Sat / Sun but you probably know some at the top end who got four matches on that weekend and one memorable larger gentleman (not me this time!) who got a five-game "fitness test" by doing the Friday night as well.

What about the players who live in these postcodes, lot more of them Than teams.

therry and Brunswick won’t field teams
Williamstown, PEGS, Westborne, West Brunswick, North Brunswick, Fitzroy all will lose players.

I know mate I was being a bit facetious. The season is cooked, unfortunately.

You could look at this in a slightly different way .......

Firstly - this lock down is for right NOW, not for what would be an entire VAFA suggested season. IF the numbers started coming down and the level was eased again in a few weeks - these clubs could still field teams. Whilst they would be significantly disadvantaged NOW, they 'could' have teams available for a July 25th / August 01st start and play?

Secondly - I would suggest that any players that live in these zones announced today would be advised/supported into doing the correct thing and asked not to attend training at this point in time.

Thirdly - we have only won 5 games in 2 years ......so if West Brunswick can not play as planned this year in D2 can we get the points? #chuckle :)

Chump how about playing for the Miles/Harris cup every weekend.

I like it Maxy!!

Also, how about in September when the weather is a bit nicer we do a 'reunion re-match' of the 1995 C-grade GF as a fundraiser?

I know you guys will be happy for us to pocket the coin as you have plenty down there at Chelsworth #chuckle.

Chump.
