the hot take is he’s finished stacking the benches, so he doesn’t need Trump anymore and can re-assert his legacy

and Hannity breaks mask rank and falls behind McConnell

Is it on? Are the G.O.P. going to en masse adopt masks?

What will the Trump family do?

Im not disputing that Germany isnt meeting its obligations.

But it still isnt why Trump withdrew troops. Why did he withdraw troops?
To remind NATO countries (with actions instead of words) that they must spend enough on defence?

They didn't say this a month ago, but now that red states are having massive spikes, they've all of a sudden realised that their election fortunes are tied up in wearing a mask. The politicisation of mask wearing has killed people. Horrifying.

Even Pence!

Okay, so in the last 24 hours, the following people have broken from Trump's orbit

McConnell - got all his judges, now he's encouraging mask use
Hannity - falling behind McConnell
Pence - on the phone with governors yesterday congratulating the governors who are shutting back down their states right now

so i had a look at the betting

interesting to see Pence at $26, not a bad idea for a sneaky $5

Gender, silly bet here; will Trump be the nominee? That's interesting...

Most of those are silly, Hillary Clinton gets a guernsey to suck in the punters... but according to this, Joe Biden and Mike Pence would be even money if they faced off? Hmm.

Democrats already have the house, they'd probably win that; same with the popular vote

270 is a win; his lowest odds are the 240-269 range for $5, so the betting is he doesn't make Presidency, *or* scrapes it in with 270-299.

The politicisation of the coronavirus has killed people.
Some republican governors held back issusing stay at home orders so the virus spread .
Then cdc issued guidelines when to reopen . Trump then tweeted liberate to the population of democratic states. This encouraged Republican states to open early without reaching the guidelines. Those states are now suffering.
The epicentre early states around Ny have waited to reopen and like other states are reconsidering opening more up or actually reversing their decisions like closing bars and beaches.
Not all republican states kowtowed to trump ,,iowa and maryland. Some democratic states who closed up early like California and opened up are suffering badly .
Then the whole business of supply of ppe and ventilators . The republicans
Held spending to restock the stockpile in last obama period . trump had 3years to restock and was denying how bad the virus was till March .
Then the distribution of the stock pile became political. The republicans had open line to kushner and trump and the dems had to try to get stock in a ebay auction situation.

Are we still all cool with America spending more on it's own military than the next 11 countries, which I believe most are allies? Who are they defending themselves against?

No.

In other news, Scomo just signed off on massive boost to ADF funding, $270bn to be announced tomorrow.

I am actually cool with it.

The last 70 years have been the most peaceful in recorded history, and the death rate per capita from conflict is also the lowest in recorded history. In fact, go back further and include WW2, its still the lowest death rate.

Part of the reason for that is for much of that period, we have had 1 or 2 preponderant super powers, which discourages armed conflict between major states.

A world with a bunch of military near equals is far more likely to end in conflict.

One of the reasons the rise of China is dangerous. Imagine a world with near equal US, Russia, China and India, the potential for miscalculation while jostling for position is huge.

I'm sure all those people killed in the peaceful wars that America has funded and profited on agree with your assessment.

Interesting point of view
Was it racial profilingor simply geographically profiling?

Is it Scott Morrison’s fault that Victoria has a massive recent spike in the virus or is it the local state leader Daniel Andrews?

Does the buck stop with Morrison in Aus as well or is there something about the United States that’s different where federal government must control everything?

Cheers
TBH I think that the US has a precedent of wanting and having less federal control over states compared to Australia
