Actually I like the dogs and just brought up the premierships discussion to not get ahead of himself by bragging about one recent premiership.

Let's get back on topic, Walsh played better than last week but still not the heights of last year. For me I think he's trying to adjust to his heavier frame so he may be less mobile in 2020 than last year.

Smith again a strong week.

Will be a good season watch both players, without getting into a pissing contest about whose club is more successful.

I watched Sam for the first time tonight for a whole game, and he comes across as a young Marc Murphy type, he gets on some good chains but his disposal kicks are not directed to a player i noticed, they were kicks of hope it looked like.

If you want to use SuperCoach points, Smith is only doing what Walsh has already done for basically a full season in his first year.

It easy for people to forget how good Walsh was last year. He’s had a rough start to the season but was great last night. Short memories, or more like selective ones.

And if there is one thing we can all agree on it’s that champion data ranking points are a great way of judging players even without watching the game!

I agree that there's no ideal way of measuring the quality of a player's game but these ranking points at least attempt to measure the value of a player's game based on the impact of a possession rather than just counting them and do so without bias which I think most supporters struggle to do.
My post was also a response to another poster suggesting that Cunningham's game was better than anything Smith has done and that Smith doesn't deserve to be compared to Walsh which by at least 2 unbiased measures is not correct.

Not sure if we can because apparently the threads closed? But whilst our eyes are shut can we also imagine that in a midfield that contains Bont, Dunkley, Macrae and Liberatore, it’s the 19 year old in Smith who would be currently winning the best and fairest.

With his ability to win his own ball and strength I think he would still perform without them. Being part of a good midfield can obviously be beneficial, but its ridiculous and arrogant to say that the one point you raise equals close thread. Particularly seeing Libba and Dunkley have both missed games this season and Smith has stood up in their absence. Also, pretty sure the focus of the opposition most weeks when playing Carlton is Cripps, not Walsh.

Conversely, if Walsh was at the Dogs do you think he would spend as much time in the midfield as he has at Carlton? Would he have got the same opportunities or would he also spend time playing out of his preferred position a lot of the time like Smith last year?

I'm not sure these types of hypothetical arguments hold much water.
You could just as easily say that if Smith played for Carlton last year and was starting in the midfield instead of being played out of position in the forward line he would have won the rising star.
Not sure Walsh would have offered the dogs much as a forward.

Except for much of the year Walsh was on the wing. We all know long term he’ll be a full time inside mid.
