“I promised the broadcasters we would make it more entertaining,” V’landys said. “That was a great game – one of the best games I have ever seen. We wanted to make the game more free flowing and get rid of the wrestle. And we will keep making changes.
“I think it is better. There is more fatigue. It is more entertaining. You can’t say it is not more entertaining.”

Hard to argue as the Roosters and Storm produced yet another classic. The game attracted 910,000 viewers overall – 644,000 on Nine and 266,000 on Fox League. The corresponding AFL game between Carlton and St Kilda had 892,000 viewers, giving rugby league a resounding victory.

Be interesting to see how 9 respond, what, if anything, the ASX reflects.

Almost as if Brent Read threw it in for clickbait ...... & in they came !

Haha you are the one who introduced it to this forum and made some vague comment about the ASX and channel 9! Seriously, no self awareness

Meanwhile today the NRL fails to make the top 20.

This is why the days of the NRL getting anything like AFL money for its FTA rights are long gone. What's more it will have to suck up far less money for subscription rights this decade as well

Brett Read?

It shouldnt please anyone. It lacks context, its based off one off data, and christ knows where the 16% figure is pulled from since its not reflected in the oztam data.

Yep, typical bogan motor mouth V'Landys talking through his backside!

As Her Gobbels said “If you repeat a lie often enough, it becomes accepted as truth.”

Lol vlandy's has been sitting around for a whole month just waiting for one night where they beat the afl in ratings then crows about it. Channel 9 exec's sitting around thinking 'wtf is this bloke on about'.

Here is the claim by Brent Read:
'Ratings on Fox League this year have skyrocketed since the game returned from the enforced break. They were up 16 per cent heading into round seven on the back of rule changes.'

It certainly lacks context, 16% of what.

Ive tried a number of permutations on this included compared to 2019s first 8 rounds, compared to the first 3 rounds of 2020 and compared to the overall season average for 2019, and none of them make 16% increase.

I always take a % with a grain of salt, a go to number when there is nothing else, 2/3 of 5/6ths .... journos & numbers almost mutually exclusive.

Looks like V'Landys is being very loose with the truth!

Or is it your good self being very lazy ...
