Just over a month ago. Things can change fast. We are in the toilet right now but I reckon we keep some faith in the man and what he's trying to do, even though at the moment it smells pretty bad. I won't push the toilet metaphor any further. Hope Rhyce can sort this sh*t out.
This gives me the shits

TBH, I think Rhyce is in over his head ATM. I think he's a great guy, but he's still learning how to coach. I don't actually think he knows the game well enough to fully analyse what is going wrong and what the opposition did. Unfortunately "yeah they were really up and about today" won't really cut it.

Need someone coaching the coach.

You're being a bit silly if you think the piecemeal offerings at press conferences accurately convey any coaches full or true insights into what happened.

Yeah you're right, after all we're seeing tons of examples of well developed in-game tactical nouse.

You need to have more clubs in your bag than just pressure around the ball.

Honestly, I don't think any change in coaching would make a difference to the absolute shitful ability of the list currently. We get to the end of the year and clean out with hospital grade bleach, we take our picks to the draft, we develop a new list.

We had something good with Whitecross, and maybe Rivers.

But ultimately you're right, this is all on Joyce especially with his sh*t list building, nothing for us to play with in the future, only in the past couple seasons have we even started to plant some seeds.

Now look what it's done, the cupboard is completely bare. Joyce was more concerned with big fish trade targets than actually building a list.

Wait...you dont have a forwards or backs line coach?? That's crazy.

Iirc we made redundant our vfl, goal kicking, ruck and one development coach... but all of the main assistants remain.

If shaw only has rawlings and a midfield coach to lean on that is extremely difficult and no wonder north are struggling. Too much to do for so few coaches. Forwards and backs not having a specialised coach to implement a structure/game plan and provide feedback to develop them as players is criminal.

Usually I get to one training session a year...however Covid19 hasn't allowed to me do that. I'm intrigued as to whether or not what the team is doing with the match simulations at training is anything like what they do on game day?

Watching Richmond...whether they were going from back to forward or crossing across the ground.....they hit targets over and over again. It's not a depth/talent thing.....that side is simply adhered to a much, much higher standard. They didn't do anything spectacular tonight...but you could tell that they knew what they were doing and had the efficiency to back it up.

The silver lining to come out of this past month is the glaring deficiencies we have with our second tier veterans when we lost Cunners and other clubs put a hard tag on Higgins.

Atley has been extremely disappointing, for someone thats been gifted 200 games he should be picking up the slack big time when our A graders are down.
Jmac is a fraud - see Atley.
Marley has been poo since returning.
Pittard has quickly gone back to the Jasper all Port fans loved to hate.
JZ is/was always playing injured. Crazy selection.
BBB’s confidence is shot to pieces.
Wood Ive protected for a long time, but Ill eat my humble pie and say I was wrong about him.
Polec only looks good when everyone is fit and firing.

The really sad thing is the kids like Curtis, Z, Jy and Kyron (crazy courage last night) have shown more ticker than our second tier veterans and thats why most of the list above needs to be replaced within the next 18 months.

Im backing in Shaw and Rawlings to reshape our list with some elite talent over the next couple of drafts and then we’ll be on our way again.

I still think Shaw was and is the right choice and it’s a bit harsh to be even considering whether he’s the right guy currently .

Cunners, JZ, Anderson , Garner, Larkey, Daw, EVW, Zurhaar, W.Walker, Perez, Comben, Jacobs, Turner , Thomas, LDU, Ahern and Tyson all unavailable .
17 players !!

Actually give me Hosie, Xerri, Durdin , Murphy and Crocker .
Organise a scratch match against the team we put on the park last night and sheesh it would be a close fought contest .

He’s lost five in a row.
On par with Brads start to 2017 which wasn’t as bad as the last five weeks.

In round 1 Waite couldn’t kick a goal and JK couldn’t miss. Eagles by 40.
Round 2 Geelong dove its way to an upset win when we led all day. Tough loss.

GWS had our measure comfortably in Hobart and then we had two agonizingly tough losses back to back by losing to Dogs on Good Friday when Lindsay missed the last shot of the game and Freo in Perth when Kersten kicked the sealer in the last minute.

However the last five weeks we have looked nowhere near it. Easily the worst football we’ve played in the AFL era.

Say what you want about Brad, he could motivate his players to respond. They were a reactive bunch. This lot can’t even muster an effort to get up for *, Richmond and the Braves.

Shaws brand of football is a coach killer and last nights performance was equivalent of the rubbish dished out against Geelong last year. Not convinced.

Has anyone listened to any of his press conferences the last three weeks? He’s fast losing the supporters at this rate.

It's not a matter of whether Rhyce will end up being 'the man' or not - he IS the coach for at least this year and next.

We are already paying him and Bard to coach us this year.

We are 100% not paying out Shawry for next year - the AFL would rightfully withhold payments to us if we tried to do that.

He is a young, inexperienced coach and that has stuck out like the proverbial the last few weeks.

Even with the growing injury list his selection and game style have been horrible and have added to our woes not alleviated them.

Shawry has had a couple of wins in playing LMac as a tagger and Walker last night as a forward but the overall analysis of his coaching would see a C grade at best - more likely a D grade.

What can we do?

He needs to be given more support - the 'brains trust' - needs to be expanded to include an elder statesmen plus more people being involved in selection decisions.

We need to get the simple decisions right like not playing Cunners, not playing JZ, not playing Campbell before McKay, not playing Kyron on Heeney, not playing Bonar in the back pocket - these decisions almost appear random when he is asked to explain them afterward.

We will have to crawl before we can walk .......we need to start practicing how to crawl now.

Mentioned in the changes thread will win this week.
Why?
No other valid reason than that Rhyce is coming up against a non flag winning coach for the first time since round 2.
Alarm bells indeed. He needs help in the box and Jade Rawlings isn’t the answer.

So,
Kennett insinuating that Clarkson’s days are over at the end of his current contract. And the heir apparent Mitchell is ready to go.
I’m sure Clarko won’t be too happy with this being played out in the media.
My question...
Do we start planting the seed?

Just watched his press conference and he just seems so emotionless. Brad always wore his emotions on his sleeve post game and would be fired up win or loss. Polar opposites. Will be very interesting what he does with the magnets this week. If Tom Campbell comes in, I will fall off the bandwagon.

Shaw might end up a sacrifice tanking era coach! list is pretty poor need a couple years on the bottom with some hopefully some good drafts! not confident this team will ever draft well though

The talent we’ve brought in to the club in the last 4 drafts suggests otherwise. It the previous years as to why we are where we are.

Give the bloke a chance. We can barely put a team on the park at the moment. We bang on about game plans and tactics.....nothing is going to work if your players hand the ball back to the opposition at every opportunity.

Clarkson did pretty well with a list full of great players, Now his list is slightly above average and he is struggling. Their list is better than ours as of right now, we have some players that are better but overall you'd likely go with them, yet they still suck.

This repeated ad neausem

Shaw is currently
- in a situation that has not faced any coach of ours ever.
- clearly under supported in terms of assistants, we prioritized development over line coaches, he has no official mentor either.
- he's managing a changing of the guard
- we have significant injuries

He's still
- trying positional moves
- getting youth into the side

Honestly right now how anyone could make a call on the 'plan' is beyond me.

He's made errors, no doubt. Cunners and Jack for a start. From that he should now take the approach of ' I say when you play, not you'.

This year is rough, and he's a young coach, it'll make him or break him and we'll know next year what way it moved.

Does anyone feel like Shaw has maybe put too much structure on how he wants us to play? That was always brads downfall is that he was so strict with his gameplans and structure

I feel like at the start he took off the shackles and gave confidence to our boys to play to our strengths. Now it looks like 95% of us look completely shot of any confidence

Now, it’s almost like he is worried to take any risks due to our copious amounts of injuries and our bad form.

I feel bad for him. This is a ******* nightmare to watch. I can’t imagine the amounts of pressure he would be feeling as a first year coach with everything that has happened in 2020

Need to support him through this!
