Alright we're over half way through the year.

Covid19 and its entry to Australia was pretty much bang on the weekend of the 2020 Formula 1 Grand Prix.

At this rate, under these circumstances, can there be an international race weekend held in Melbourne in March 2021?

Schedule will be released next month, will be very interesting to see where Melbourne sits, if at all, on the calendar.

As it stands right now, I'd be worried about any of the street circuits. It's all well and good to cancel a purpose built track weekend, but the logistics that go into the fly away races, especially the street circuits are a whole different game.

Where do you see us, in March 2021?

Are we about to see Formula One as we did pre-Covid-19?

Or do we get prepared for a European and Middle Eastern 2021 Season with no street circuits, involving Imola, Jerez, Mugello, Magny-Cours, Hockenheim, Bahrain (multiple layouts) etc with double headers if required as per Austria and Silverstone?

There should be a 5th poll option:
Race gets relocated to Adelaide or Gold Coast.
Is there an F1 rated track in Australia?
Because under current conditions it’s insane to look at a road circuit for the next AGP.
Months of preparation, disruption and because it’s impossible to lockdown residential areas, a last minute cancellation.

As it stands, currently Albert Park is the only Grade One rated track in Australia, so only place we could hold a F1 GP.
We do have 3 Grade Two rated tracks (The Bend, Sydney Motorsport Park and Gold Coast street circuit). Not sure what changes would need to be made for any of these to be upgraded to Grade One.

You would expect it’s all about safety to be upgraded.
Though how Albert Park is grade one on safety escapes me.

Did some googling before, managed to find a reddit post that linked the FIA document:

Though it doesn't list the exact difference between grade 1/2/3 etc it gives some ideas of whats required for Grade 1 (stolen from Reddit):

- Width of at least 12m
- Grid should be at least 15m wide
- >250m between the Pole Position grid slot and the first corner (first corner= 45° with a radius <300m)
- Requirements regarding Race Control, Timing Room, Marshal Posts, Pits, Paddock area, Medical Centres, etc. vary according to the types of competition planned
- Not shorter than 3.5 km or longer than 7km
- Maximum 2km long straight

General consensus about the difference between grade 1 and 2 is around track facilities. Media areas, big enough pits, medical centers, paddock sizes, spectator areas etc.

Big call...

Looks like 2021 Melbourne is a lock!

From the Australian GP website:
www.grandprix.com.au

The Formula 1® Australian Grand Prix will return in 2021. After a year of not racing at the famous Albert Park Grand Prix Circuit, we are working on providing a new experience for Melbourne’s most exciting world-class sporting spectacular.

With new drivers, old rivals, and some familiar faces sporting new colours, the excitement is building among fans and teams alike.

Worth noting, on the website tickets are expressions of interest.

Maybe a ballot system for 2021?

I;m just wondering when did you notice this?

It comes across a pretty confident a race will occur.

It’s smart marketing. Nobody knows where we will be in 6 months time.
And because of that you can’t actually sell tickets this far out.
But build a database, by the inference that ther may be crowd limitations, and you are guaranteeing a revenue source as soon as a date is confirmed.
As the AGP is a street circuit, that date has to be announced early.
