If Brad Crouch is rated the same as Lance Franklin, then the system is completely contrived.

Having said that, James Frawley was Band 1 and he’s a supe....nevermind.

You do know that a large part of what makes up 'compensation' is the idea of equalisation amongst the leagues teams. Franklin WAS deemed to be Band 1 compensation, but Hawks won the league that year so their pick fell at Pick 19. They literally won again the year after without him. If Ben Brown netted you Pick 3/4 compensation for leaving at the end of the year, you wouldn't be complaining

If Crouch played for Melbourne band 1 compo would be automatic. Unfortunately for Crows different rules will apply.

He isn't getting Band 1 compo.

I'm doing this exercise for the last time.

To get Band 1 you have to be paid in the top 5% of the league, then they add points for your age etc to every player.

If you finish in the top 37, you are Band 1.

Mr #37 =

Players older than Crouch in the top 37.

Heppell.
Walker
Cotchin
Riewoldt
Gray
Boak
Pendlebury
Franklin.

Which means he would have to be ranked 48th on the assumption that he would overtake everyone on that list after re-ranking (Not a chance in hell vs Franklin etc, but we will do the exercise as a best case scenario for Adelaide) and nobody below his pay packet overtakes him in points for being younger.

Which means he has to get offered $700-$750k to get Band 1 compo on the assumption his re-ranking would overtake every single person older than him in the top 37 paid players in the league so he ranks in the top 5%.

This is also on the assumption players much younger than him on less coin (i.e Taranto etc) don't overtake him in the ranking points with their lower age, which is completely possible.

Mate did you actually look to see how many players are older than Brad Crouch in the top 37, or did you just guess?

He will still be 26 by the time compensation is worked out.

Players older than him.........

Heppell.
Walker
Cotchin
Riewoldt
Gray
Boak
Pendlebury
Franklin.
Shuey
Cunnington
Treloar
Parker
Yeo
Shiel
O'meara
Hawkins
Gaff
Swallow
Sloane
Selwood
Hill
Fyfe
Martin
Dangerfield

Also, you mention younger players (like Taranto) that are being paid more potentially 'overtaking' Crouch in the ranking. The AFL's compensation ranking system only looks at players aged 25 and older, as i'm assuming it's only this cohort who are eligible for Free Agency (having done the minimum 7 years at a club) and it also disregards anyone over the age of 30....

No ones going to give crouch more than 600k thus band 2

In your opinion.

At the end of the day if the Crows want to shed him, then he chooses where & how he goes.

The trade value will be of secondary significance.

He’s a free agent so he’ll walk wherever he likes. The question is the financial deal. Would any team seriously give this bloke the money that would put him in that category?

My context was based upon his comments that he wanted to stay, but was willing to move on if the Crows had other ideas.

I doubt it.

So all the angst about the draft this year, SA, WA and Tas kids are playing. Vic Country kids are playing soon enough. We just need to get the Metro kids some footy. My nephew is part of one of the squads and they are all training waiting for the go ahead.

What are we really worried about?

Making sure we pick up the next Buddy and Cripps 😟

I’m not opposed to having him, but not throwing the sort of money that would give them band 1 compo.

He is obviously looking for more than what he is getting at Adelaide and prob views himself as the peak of his powers... so a min of 750-800.... yes he may make us better but that sort of money ie more than we are spending on any other player in my opinion would be better spent elsewhere on others that would equally make us better
