Nice to get a big win in the end. We just couldn’t kick straight for a while and meant we couldn’t shake north. Similar to last week just steamrolled the last quarter.

Umps slaughtered us early on though.

Petracca has gone next level. He’s a serious player.
The younger players on Pickett Jackson Sparrow Rivers look the goods.
Weideman looks a proper key forward to.
Defensively very well set up.

Agree with Gus, showed what he is capable of played in the correct position, he needs to be played there from now on. Who do we remove from the midfield? Trac can play forward but is way to valuable following the ball, Viney is an inside mid, thats it. Harmes, I don't know what to think.
Trac, Oliver, Viney and Brayshaw can all rotate. Harmes can play in the scratch matches

We're #1 in the AFL for 4th quarters won, 8-2.

It's a very different season this year, but we were 17th in this category in 2019.
Takes us a while to find that connection between mids and forwards. All of our first quarters have been slow starts (except against Carlton which ironically ended up being one of our worst four quarter performances), yet we haven’t been belted in any of them because we usually break even around the ball and stem the tide of opposition scoring. Need to start kicking a few more first quarter goals ourselves.

Spargo doing what he did in 2018. Will always be a role player in a good side type, but in a good side it’s an important role in winning games.

Viney doesn’t need to be a ‘pressure forward’ so much as a wrecking ball up forward. Hit forward half stoppages hard, win the ball in a maul and get a kick away towards goal, dive into a pack and get a handball to someone clear, etc. He’s good enough to create or score a few goals a game doing that with his tackling to back up and if you’re an opposition defender you’d already be nervous knowing he’s looking to hit you. If we can repeatedly lock the ball inside 50 he’ll be dangerous and it allows someone like Gus to set up around half forward if it spills out. It’s more a matter of him learning how to spread after starting forward like Hannan or vandenBerg do but once the ball is in there he can play the same role he does now. And he’s still going to have a few spells at the centre bounce. If that doesn’t work, who knows what to do.
Aka pressure forward.

That was a 2018esque demolition of a really poor North side.

Thought we played well, but our skills and execution were really poor for 3/4 of the match, and we would’ve lost to most sides in the comp tonight if it weren’t for a terrible opponent.

Positives were that Trac was amazing yet again, Brayshaw much more effective, Oliver looks to have some form, Weid impressive again - and the youngsters in Pickett, Sparrow, Rivers and Jackson all showed why we picked them.

Still not convinced we’ll beat Collingwood, think we’re still a fair way off the better sides in the comp, but it was damn fun to beat North like we did.

On Pickett, really hope the coaching staff continue to give him license to do his thing. Probably tries to be a bit too cute for his own good at times but he's an instinctive player and bloody exciting. Have to take the bad with the good at the moment because he's capable of lighting it up with only a few touches / involvements.

Importantly, he chases and does the pressure acts we need out of him as a small forward, not just the flashy stuff.

Watching Trac tonight I now know what its like to be a tigers supporter watching Martin or a cats fan watching Ablett or Danger.

Hes not up there with them yet, but he gives you that feeling that when he wants to impose his will on a game he just does it and no one can stop him.

Was thinking along these lines as well, feels like if the ball is somewhere in his vicinity he is going to run past someone or knock them out of the way and just take it, it's crazy town to have a player like this, keep it going!

Good - our midfield bullied theirs off the park, oliver and petracca just doing whatever they wanted, to be fair north looked like us against port adelaide, but it was pleasing to see us put them to the sword

Bad - basic dropped marks around the 50 and missed set shots

North dropped off big time in the last quarter, I hope we don't get ahead of ourselves as usual, big test next week

On Weid’s kicking, pretty clearly something was bothering him with his left boot. Took it off twice in about 2mins around two of his behinds. Wouldn’t surprise me if it was throwing him.

Yeah caused a few turnovers by putting on pressure, getting a half smother on handballs/kicks. Nice at hitting up leads too which is great.

Quite seriously I wonder if this is what it was like for Dawks “fans” watching Cyril in ‘08. The guy is an excitement ball, and every time he goes near it something happens. He develops a little size to hold those tackles and a bit of finesse on some of that natural play-on-at-all-costs and gee, he is some sort of icing.

Watching Trac play is genuinely fun.

Has that aura about him. Gets the ball and just throws people out of the way/runs through people. Finally worked out he's stronger and quicker than anyone. Even when they tackle him he still stands up and gets the kick off. Is also doing a lot of dirty work tackling, chasing and harassing.

The best bit is it's contagious and Oliver is doing it now as well.

That hit-and-spin miss he had - he’s been on the phone to Simmons who hooked him up with the running backs coach at the Eagles with s**t like that. That move is something out of the LeSean McCoy playbook.

No idea what you're talking about but I love it

Also love North fans talking about sacking Shaw already <3

If that’s what pressure forward means then sure. Tbh I have literally no idea but based on the name I’d say someone like ANB is a pressure forward or even Hannan or Kossie.
Yeah there is a difference between what Viney would be doing and what other pressure forwards do. I was being a bit cheeky.

Covering ground, getting deflections is more their role but ideally they do most the things you mentioned as well.

schmuttt pull your supporters back in line.
It might be the four more possesions per game he averages (which consists of more of both contested and uncontested possessions)...or the more marks, or double the tackles, or the less clangers, or the far higher disposal efficiency, or the more intercepts, or the more score involvements (even in an inferior team). But it's ok, take another screenshot over to your echo chamber for a few pats on the back.

Haven’t read anything in this thread yet. Haven’t watched the game and won’t for at least another 12 hours. Trying to avoid spoilers, but made the mistake of looking at my notifications, and two of them have me very excited 🙏🏻
