Just copped it On The Couch.

Teeing off players for not respecting the jumper, not seeing any system in our game, using the rebuild as a cop out for our performances..

Can't say I disagree.

Neglected to mention that we have missed some crucial players for long stretches of time

No excuse for the poor skills from supposedly highly skilled players.

Gerard then changed hands and started talking about Freo.

Who have won one more game than we have.

We just copped an absolute rinse on the couch...

Media is big on us being in denial about a rebuild. Think the club needs to come out and knock it on the head and say we are.

yeh I don’t agree - article last week from herald sun says we are going down that track. Rhyce says as much in the presser.

riewoldt just puts it out there cos st kilda are less stable then us off field and just got pasted.

browny goes in to bat for his premiership mate bard scotts.

Take all of that shit with a grain of salt. Healy was rubbing his dick like no ones.

Gary Lyons analysis the only one worth listening to

Lyon always goes into bat for us. I rate him for that.

Sure Rhys has made some bold comments, yet I’m still unsure of exactly what direction we are going. Are we going to invest heavily in the draft? Are we going to try and address our injury issue and try and climb back up the ladder after one poor year?

Complain about various media personalities all you like, I don’t think anything that they said was particularly wrong. Did they neglect to mention we have a decent group of kids? Sure. They did mention we have two first rounders this year.

I think the freo direction is spot on.

it’s as plain as the light of day that you need to invest in the draft.

there was no discussion of Simpkin, LDU as midfielders that we’ve accessed in the first round.

you can’t genuinely sit there and say Brad Scott said they needed to rebuild. The muppet bought hall, Pittard, Polec and Tyson in as a last ditch effort. We should have traded pick 11 and wood to the dogs for 6 and our starting midfield right now would be Bailey Smith, LDU and Simpkin. Higgins would be playing polecats wing role and people would be talking up our kids.

we’ve made it clear we are going to the draft. Cleary browny is being dangled as capital to gain higher access to it.

I wouldn’t get sucked into the hyperbole of commentators that talk about north in the second part of the night when they can’t be ****ed doing legitimate research

Absolutely agree that the Scott defence is just lazy, stupid journalism. He and Joyce are why we sit where we do.

All I want is an understanding from the club on what direction we are going. That might be obvious to some, however decades of this shit has made me speculative.

He wasn't batting for us tonight. Gave us a right royal serve. Pretty scathing.

and he was the only one that had anything to show or any research.

healy just pissing himself over Pickett. Look at any small forwardagainst us recently. Miers has been struggling and kicks 4. “Should have been triple digits” **** wit forgets we waved the white flag in the last quarter four down on the bench after being 16 points down at 3qtr time.

we are in dire need of fresh talent. But everyone other than Lyon was just kicking a group whilst they are down. Lyon correctly pointed out a lack of care for the footy which in turn is a lack of care in general.

I know you were at the game so wouldn't have heard it, but he had a 14-inch boner over Pickett hitting a couple of 20m passes. Mind you I probably would too, given nobody on our list can seem to do it...

The bloke on our list who could do it, is injured and won't play again this year

The On the couch segment was cursory analysis at best.

3 or more of the key lowlights they showed were of kids.

We have 6 games left. 4 are against entrenched top 8 sides. 3 of those are top 4 sides.

It's gonna get worse before it gets better.

With our injury list we're lambs to slaughter.

It's gon get rough.

This is the time to remember that you have the right to tell anyone and everyone to ‘go and get ****ed’.

That includes Brownlow medal winners and toilet cleaners.

The media can go and get ****ed.

If we trade Brown and totally scrap our list we will be ****ed for more than a couple of years of bottoming out. And if we do it after this particular season ... Let's just say I have **** all faith in Scott Claytons list managerial skills.

I have a really bad feeling about this.

What small forwards have beaten us this year?

North Melbourne premiership coach Denis Pagan says list rebuild is right path for Roos

North Melbourne has 23 players coming out of contract at the end of the season and up to 16 of them could be delisted or traded. Mark Robinson gives his verdict on which players should still be at Arden St in 2021.

North Melbourne premiership coach Denis Pagan suspects the Kangas will bottom out “for the first time’’ as it embarks on a savage rebuild of its list.

Up to 16 out-of-contract players are fighting for their careers as reality hits coach Rhyce Shaw and the list/recruiting managers.

The Kangas have 23 players coming out of contract at the end of the season and it’s believed only seven of those players are set for contracts going into the 2021 season.

026821f5e61721140bacdfc13b17a9dc

The players who could be delisted or traded out of Arden St include Ben Brown, Mason Wood, Jamie Macmillan, Majak Daw, Taylor Garner, Mason Wood, Ben Jacobs, Jasper Pittard, Marley Williams, Paul Ahern, Sam Durdin and Ed Vickers-Willis.

Some of those players have struggled with injury, others ran out of chances, and others could be put up for trade.

Players in contract but also set to be discussed at end of the season include Shaun Atley, Aaron Hall, Dom Tyson.

Majak Daw is one of the players North Melbourne must make a call on.

Defender Jamie Macmillan is another whose list spot will come under scrutiny.

It’s possible contract buyouts could be presented to Hall and Tyson, the latter being unable to shake calf issues since his recruitment from Melbourne.

The players who should be given new deals, and have shown varying levels of promise, are Josh Walker, Kyron Hayden, Jed Anderson, Tristan Xerri, Curtis Taylor, Kayne Turner and Bailey Scott, although Turner, who has missed all of this season with a foot injury, is not as assured as the others.

It has to be also noted, though, 28-year-old Tom Campbell was named as an emergency against Melbourne ahead of the developing ruckman Xerri.

North’s tumultuous season, which has been beset by injury and poor performances, was laid bare by Shaw after the team’s shambolic loss to Melbourne last Sunday night.

“I think with six games to go, we’re going to find out a lot about our players and our list,” Shaw said.

“We‘re at that stage now – it’s just the reality of it. I don’t think I’m saying anything that’s going to be a shock to anyone now. But in saying that I don’t give up.”

Jasper Pittard has endured a tough season and could be culled at season’s end.

Pagan believes the club has decided to bottom out.

“I think they’ve already made their mind up — they’re going to rebuild again and I suspect this will be the first time the Kangas will bottom out and try to rebuild from the ground up.

“The time’s come, and if you look at the quality of the list, it’s time to put your future in youth.

“With Scotty Clayton (head of player personnel) and Glenn Luff (list manager), I’m confident they will pick the right sort of players and it will give the club the chance to get quality kids in there.

“They have got a few. I like Zurhaar, Simpkin, Tarryn Thomas, I like Larkey … that’s North Melbourne’s future, those four or five names there, and there are others.”

Ben Brown’s name is sure to feature in this year’s trade period.

North Melbourne has had five rising star nominations since the start of 2019 — Curtis Taylor, Thomas, Bailey Scott, Zurhaar and Larkey.

Other youngsters who could see more game time in the run home include Will Walker, mid-season draft pick-up Lachie Hosie, Tom Murphy and the left-footed mid-forward Matt McGuinness.

The impending player cull would be made easier for North Melbourne if the AFL decreed list sizes would be reduced to 35, which has been mooted in the industry.

That means seven spots would be automatically lost.

To replenish the list, North would go to this year‘s draft with two-first-round picks (they have Melbourne’s first-round selection), their other draft selections and possible selections acquired via trades. They would also try to pursue free agents.

This deep-dive list rebuild has been coming for several years.

The Kangas have been rebuilding since the end of the 2016 season when Brent Harvey, Drew Petrie, Michael Firrito and Nick Dal Santo were retired.

The new regime at the club, headed by Shaw, football boss Brady Rawlings and the list management team, should now be assessed after the next three years of drafts and trades.

“With Scotty there, I feel confident he will get a good group of players, but it’s not going to happen next year, it’s going to happen over a couple of years,” Pagan said.

“North has never bottomed out or done this, I can’t remember North being in a situation like this,

“It’s probably the right way to go now.”

Robbo’s assessment on the future of North Melbourne’s players

Player ----- Age ---- Arrived at club ---- Career Games ---- 2020 Games ----- Robbo’s call
*Majak Daw 29.4 2013 53 3 (Question mark)
Jasper Pittard 29.4 2019 159 11 (question mark)
Jamie Macmillan 28.9 2010 167 10 (question mark)
Ben Jacobs 28.6 2013 90 0 (question mark)
Josh Walker 27.7 2020 96 11 (tick)
Ben Brown 27.2 2014 130 9 (question mark)
Marley Williams 27.1 2017 124 4 (question mark)
Mason Wood 26.9 2013 60 3 (question mark)
Taylor Garner 26.6 2013 43 0 (question mark)
Jed Anderson 26.5 2016 72 9 (tick)
Kayne Turner 24.6 2014 79 0 (tick)
Ed Vickers-Willis 24.4 2015 15 0 (question mark)
Sam Durdin 24.2 2015 20 1 (question mark)
Paul Ahern 24.0 2017 22 4 (question mark)
Lachie Hosie 23.5 2019 1 1 (question mark)
Tom Murphy 22.6 2018 5 1 (question mark)
Tristan Xerri 21.4 2018 2 2 (tick)
Will Walker 21.4 2018 5 1 (question mark)
Kyron Hayden 21.2 2019 9 8 (tick)
Curtis Taylor 20.3 2019 11 9 (tick)
Joel Crocker 20.3 2019 0 0 (question mark)
Bailey Scott 20.1 2019 11 7 (tick)
Matt McGuinness 20.1 2020 0 0 (question mark)

So this is my version of Robbos list in the order of who goes till I say nah **** that. Approximately. Regardless of contacts for some. Includes controversial figures mentioned as potential trades anyway or whatever.

Mason Wood
Ben Jacobs
Dom Tyson
Tom Campbell
Tom Murphy
Sam Durdin
Lachie Hosie
-----
Paul Ahern
EVW
Garns
Joel Crocker
Tristan Xerri
Matt McGuiness
Jamie MacMillan
Jasper Pittard
Marley Williams
Jarred Polec

I think the ones below the line may have something to offer and we can't delist that whole group in a year. The ones above the line don't really have anything worth keeping. Murphy and Tyson have the slim chance of playing more games this year and getting below the line. MacMillan deserves anothe year based on recent performances IMO. I'd probably keep Williams, Polec, Pittard in order of necessity.

I'd keep McGuiness if possible unless he has shown there a is no way in hell he can defend at AFL level.

The keep list is (in no particular order)
Maj
Josh and Will Walker
Ben Brown
Bailey
Kyron
The scan
Jed
Kanye
Aaron Hall

Unless we get stupid offers. I'm loathe to sell the likes of Brown, Daw or Anderson cos I don't like the idea of our gun players arse ****ing us on a footy field cos we made some silly decisions. Especially this year given the state of the draft and the fact we have some good picks already.

Obviously there are others on the list.

Would love to know the game plan as well.
One week it’s bomb it long and the next it’s handball happy.

Robbo goes bang! Agree with most of it. Hindsight is a wonderful thing. This rebuild should have been done properly at the end of 2016. Had it been done properly, we would be entering our premiership window now with Higgins and Goldstein as toppings but we are now the total opposite. In Scott Clayton We Trust.
Very much my sentiment at the time. I felt that the club needed to shake things up, and that the departure of veterans would spark the beginning of a new era at the football club. I was in the camp for Brad Scott resigning in 2016, and I most certainly wasn’t alone. Rhyce Shaw was certainly not what I had in mind, however I hope he proves to be a legend at this club.

i Think we may all agree , if we are to rebuild then do it 100%, cop our medicine trade and draft what is required and then start taking steps up the ladder.
Don’t go in half and put bandaids over it.
I think we are gearing up to 100% with new pillars in the key posts
