Williamson was quite a clean ball-handler, but it has escaped him somewhat in his come-back...for now at least.
I'm not too worried about it and if by some chance he is pushed back...which he won't be, but.... it will likely be only for the short term.

We still have many players working on aspects of their games.

What seems strange to me is that what people seem to like about Williamson is that he is flat out, he hits the ball at full pace and trys to take the game on with ball in hand, then people chip him for making mistakes that are generally because he is flat out, hitting the ball at pace and trying to take the game on.

Can't take ourselves seriously until we start beating sides around and below us on the ladder, starting this week ...

When the club likes you, they've seen things and should know things we just don't, here...and the club really likes him.

Maybe he is struggling a little right now, but that's not totally surprising for someone who's played a grand total of 25 games and for the issues he's had to endure. He's very much what we need and all I want for him, is for him not to have the same issues he's had in the past...and if he fumbles a bit here and there, then that's fine too, for now. It's not as though he's alone.

I would add a lot of the time I have seen him lose his feet is because he has received the ball incorrectly, he has been flying past and had to put on the brakes because the ball wasn't put out in front.

Doubt that Teague drops TDK and who knows if tissue paper Harry will be good to go anyway....
IN: Dow for Martin ( inj)

Fingers crossed Pittonet is good to go.

As long as Carlton has Newnes and Murphy on wings - we will lose the between the arcs game against most Clubs. If all Teaguey needs to do is hang in there and win 2-3 more games I get the strategy - sad as it looks.

I'm just watching the players I know can play these days - Weitering is playing at another level to most of our blokes, loving TDK, great to see Fish back so look forward to see if Dow has turned the corner on each way running and having an interest in tackling.

I'd play Cripps forward 50% of the game at least - give Setterfield/Dow/Kennedy and Ed a job and get Walsh more on ball time .

Yep on the bolded. Imo, Murphy/Newnes giving us nothing through the wings and Gibbons/Betts/Cunners giving the oppo very few headaches in the forward 50 have been our main probs that need to be addressed. Hopefully Fish has finally helped with the latter.

Desperately need to address the wings, especially as i think, and have always thought, that Walsh is an onball mid. Cripps, Walsh, Setters and Dow will be our main mids from now on hopefully.

I'm all about using the short term for the long term. I'm happy where we're at in a lot of areas going forward but there are definately a couple of wing spots up for grabs imo. I'm not sold on O'Brien so can't really blame the MC there.

Alternate between TDK and Pittonet, Moore can stay away. Was a good experiment but no thanks anymore. TDK was 1000x better than Moore's 3 games.

We don't need to see Moore again thanks.
Just don't feel like he's up to AFL standard.

Yep. Only have to look as far as Brayden Maynard to see what we should hope to expect from Willo over time.

Maynard was a "thug" and an "idiot" with poor skills. He's now considered one of the top few small/medium defenders in the comp.

Willo will make mistakes, because of the way he plays the game. But those mistakes will help him learn what he can and can't get away with, and more physical development will only help him to get away with it more consistently.

I said it last week and was shot down. I'd love to see him succeed but he is fumbly , doesn't keep his feet and has poor game awareness often putting his mates under the pump. Cotterell broke more lines last week.
He sems to have dropped form. I dont see him as a defender. Doesnt have clean hands and not strong overhead. However he possesses a rare commodity at Carlton, kicking skills. Rather have Willo kicking inside 50 than any of our mids. Needs space which he will find on the wing and licence to attack. Rather him than Murphy chasing cheap possessions and being ragdolled at every contest.

Yep - I think a genuine wing player(s) is a definite area of weakness - it is always a slog for our on ballers between the arcs- the current players on the outside just don't have the kicking penetration required to move the ball as fast as Teague's game style requires in Murph's case I think he has lost 50% of his kicking ability over the last couple of years in Newnes case we were never looking at anything particularly special - not surprised to see that St Kilda tried to fashion him into a HBFer.

Ironically - I think the best wingman we have on the list right now is Simpson - and if we had someone coming through who could play his role defensively - I'd be playing him on a wing - still looks a better player and dangerous on a flank with ball in hand and some space- still has the leg speed and a much more penetrating kick than what we are playing now.

Don't know what is going on with LoB ...or Stocker ...but we can scratch Setterfield as a wingman and Walsh rotates through there - only because he has the class to play anywhere. Wouldn't be surprised to see Charlie rotate through a wing / CHF role next year - fingers crossed for the lad.

The other guy who is just statistical Armageddon is Newnes. Poor old Jack rates below average (ie sh*t) in the following categories:

- tackles
- pressure acts
- possessions
- contested possesions (3 a game ffs)
- uncontested possessions
- metres gained

ie: he’s neither an inside nor outside nor defensive player. He’s got on the end of a few. But he’s ******* useless.

I mean that’s some really abysmal stuff mate. He’s shared a wing spot with Murph this year who has copped no end of a bagging on here but Murph at least DOES sh*t.

So Newnes is out this week too. He’s out. Enough. Can’t be ignored any more. See ya mate.
Newnes isn't up to it. After 150+ games with the Saints it was plainly obvious. Annoying that we're wasting games on him instead of one of the younger blokes.

Re: Williamson

He's going along just OK at the moment, but I'd be really disappointed if he didn't play out the year at senior level.

Looks as though he's playing more of a defensive role than what we're used to seeing from him, and for the most part he seems to have done reasonably well.

Sure he has been caught with the ball a fair bit and has tried to do too much on occasion, but with the attacking game style we've implemented I'm not surprised nor am I disappointed he's still trying to take the game on.

That sort of thing should be encouraged regardless of whether or not it has been paying off. Learn a new role but continue to play with flair and instinct and take the game on. It's pretty easy to forget he's a 21 year old kid with 25 odd senior games under his belt.

It's a great sign that he continues to back himself in to provide that dash, keep at it and that side of his game will return.

I still see him as a wing at AFL level but truth be told right now I'm just rapt he's now been able to string some games together at senior level. Another 7 games here and a full preseason will do him wonders in 2021 and beyond.

I wonder if the wing might be a better place to bring Charlie back anyway - would running be less strain on his knee than all the jumping and crashing packs we'd want him doing in the forward line?

I can see the attraction but what he did in that bulldogs game is what we need, someone who we can isolate forward and make defenders terrified.

Hi guys...looking at the article from Jon Ralph today it looks like we are being conditioned for TDK to be dropped if Pitto / Harry plays and it doesn't look like LOB will be getting a game any time soon
They would be nuts to drop TDK. yes he dropped a couple marks however he negated nicnatpaddywack’s influence, he should have got a free kick in the last qtr, opponent had both arms around him stopping him from reaching the ball.

Charlie, Harry and Mitts is the perfect forward combo going forward. Mitts is frustrating at the moment(still) but 3rd banana in a functioning, working together triumvirate is his go. Can't wait.

Charlie's injury has been cruel. But in real terms i feel it's only delayed us 12 months. From 2020 to 2021. And Covid really nuked this year anyhow.
