I’m wondering if it’s worth throwing Paddy McCartin a rookie spot for 2021. Why not, as long as we get rid of Beams off the list I think at a low level rookie list it can’t hurt. Only of course if he is cleared and he is sure of the risks.

been talking about this in trade thread. Id be keen as I view risk v reward is worth a shot. Many don’t though Given our continued injury issues.

I would leave the Final Rookie Spot for Him to see IF he can get thru the Pre-Season. Like what Melbourne did with Harley Bennell

I am curious as to how many people think our issues are:
1. Injuries
2. Game Plan
3. Playing List
4. Coach
5. other

As you will remember our playing list was decimated by injury in 2018 with over 170 games lost to our established senior players. Dunn and Scharenberg both did knees within weeks of each other and we need Howe to play FB. Our injuries were decidedly worse in 2018. However, we had an attacking game plan.
Players missing in action:
Wells 22 games
Moore 19 games
Reid 20 games
Dunn 12 games
Aish 13 games
Scharenberg 9 games
De Goey 5 games
Mayne 5 games
Howe 5 games
Treloar 9 games
Langdon 5 games
Adams 3 games
Varcoe 6 games
Greenwood 10 games
Elliott 26 games

1. injuries
2. playing list
3. game plan
4. coach

Well in all honesty, Reid, Mayne, Varcoe Dunn, Broomhead, Scharenberg, all great servants of the club and loved their contributions, but l expect all wouldn't be on the list for 2021.
If we want to be even more aggressive, make it known, behind closed doors, Treloar, Stephenson, Phillips, Elliott and Sidebottom are all on the table, and see what are the options offered to us in terms of any possible trade.
In terms of the coach, l wouldn't be offering Bucks a new contract until well into the 2021 season. Depending on how we are travelling, and we are winning games sitting in the 8, then offer a contract 2 years max, with certain targets to be met to initiate the second term. If things are grim, and the form line of this year, continues next year, then l would open up the option of bringing in someone else.

We were apparently prepared to trade both Treloar and Phillips last year so I doubt we’ve lacked that aggressiveness but players have the right to expect contracts be honored.

Can you see him doing that? It's not in his character to walk away.

He’s already apparently offered to step down if that was the best thing for the club.

I've no questions about his integrity and intentions for the club. Is this a recent offer? I've not encountered this in any publication.

During the recent review, before he was re-signed. Has always said he will do whatever is best for the club.

The Hawks have won 9 premierships in the past 36 years (Premiership every 4 years - not counting Runners-up), but a lot of posters on here do not like them because they appear ruthless. Howevr, they are just prepared to make the tough decisions.

Yet we appear happy with our 2 premierships in 62 years. Our current glory period are the 5 GF's we played from 1977 to 1981.

Ed counter's any argument about Collingwood's mediocrity on-field with we are the largest club and richest club in the AFL. Neither are true. Sounds like Donald trump that if one peddles crap long along, enough people will believe it.

Hammer. Nail. Head.

The best thing to do for the club was tap MM on the shoulder halfway through 2011 and say, "how about we delay for a year". But noooooooooooooo

He apparently made that offer. Board declined.

I like to consider myself as relatively impartial. "Accurate" is subjective unless we are talking hard facts. This article also carries opinions that we will all agree/disagree with to some extent. IMO:

Accurate in the article:
- 15 GF wins for 27 losses.
- Our recruiting misses.
- Identifying that for the most part our style of play since 2012 hasnt been as fluid as it was in '18/'19.

Opinion:
- Getting to a GF isn't much of an accomplishment.
- That we need a miracle to turn things around.

It's a bit dramatic/emotional IMO.

That's a great summation of that article.

Re gf appearances, it is (or should be) the clubs end game to win premierships, the prior objective. I fear this club no longer has this mentality, business seems to be the main objective and not premierships.

If I am correct he did offer this to the club but the club denied, hazard a guess to ensure it didn't make Ed look wrong.

Alas we'll never know if it was the right decision.

Lets forget for a second that any time he gets bumped he has to sit an entire year out with serious brain injuries, but McCartin isn't even a good player.

With all his issues when he does get on the field he's scared of contact and plays terrible... Bad player with very very serious injury issues.. and u want him??

We should be concentrating on the best KPP we can get. We do not need any more washed up could have beens no matter how cheep they are. I am so sick and tired of drafting broken souls in the hope of a resurrection. We need fit proven players and young guns. That's it.
Maybe a new coach but i'm still out on that one.
