Happy about this.

I don't want bulldogs or bombers to have any extra motivation when we face off against them.

My hope is the AFL approve us playing Kangaroos at Optus in R18 and we only spend 17 days in QLD.

Can see it now

Gil - "We will be playing the game behind closed doors in Cains"
Eagles- "But we are expecting 27.000 people though, what about the lost gate receipts"
Gil - "Dont worry, I sacked 40 people so thats now covered"

McGowan - "Due to Australia's recent good containment of Covid we can bring forward the move to Stage 5 restrictions. This includes full capacity allowed at Optus"
Gil - [sacks another 50]

Arguably a better place to stay anyway, particularly if families are in tow.

Will be a lot quieter at night there in comparison to Royal Pines.

Biggest issue will be the lack of quality training grounds in close proximity - plenty of grass that can be used though.

Eagles - What about finals
Gil - Ill sack another 100
Gils assistant - Ah Gil, their is only 72 staff left
Gil - Give them 100% payrises then sack them

It's true.

“That was a true story,” Bombers great Matthew Lloyd said.
“The West Coast Eagles are saying we’re coming and why, when we’re going to be top four, should we go to a lesser place than the Bulldogs and Essendon?
“The AFL put it to the Bulldogs and Essendon that if you’re not going to make finals we’re going to put the top-end teams in the better spots and you guys have to move out.”

The club is trying to get back in to Royal Pines due to the proximity to Metricon and the training grounds. Simmo said in his presser yesterday that they will be staying at one of two venues. Not mentioned was that it will either be kicking out one of bombers/bulldogs from Royal Pines or staying at Sanctuary Cove.

What's disappointing though is that clubs wanting the best preparation for their finals campaign is somehow a story.
U call it a story.

I call it pure arrogance.

Our arrogance is back campaigners!

vfl: "hey indian pacific limited do you guys have a preference on where you want to hub back in qld?"
wce: "umm that last place was pretty nice. if not there, somewhere else i guess"
vfl: "say no more..."
vfl media: "Arrogant Eagles DEMAND Bombers and Bulldogs KICKED OUT of hub accommodation"

literally 100% how it went down

Can add to it even

vfl: "hey indian pacific limited do you guys have a preference on where you want to hub back in qld?"
wce: "umm that last place was pretty nice. if not there, somewhere else i guess"
vfl: "say no more, also today we had to sack hundreds of people..."
normal human "Did you hear the news about AFL sacking all those people"
vfl media: "Yeah but did you also hear about those arrogant Eagles demanding Bombers and Bulldogs get KICKED OUT of hub accommodation, thats disgraceful and unfair"

Gil: In order for us to accommodate West Coast's ARROGANT COMMAND to relocate the Dogs and Bombers, who are GRASS ROOTS CLUBS of the afl, I had to SACK HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE to afford the moving trucks.

I HOPE YOU'RE HAPPY, SIMPSON! JOE DANIHER IS LITERALLY CRYING RIGHT NOW!!!

Pretty interesting article that explains some of the numerous challenges Robbie Muir had to face. This bit shows yet another in a long line of racist incidents involving McGuire.

in April of 1997, Muir was invited by producers of The Footy Show to appear on the ratings-topper for a $700 fee; three years unemployed and estranged from his family, he could hardly say no.

The premise for Muir's involvement was strange from the outset. For the show's 100th episode, producers decided to feature "highlight" clips from earlier episodes, but with a twist that would confuse the audience: the incidents in question had never occurred, and were specially pre-recorded. Perhaps Muir should have anticipated the backlash to the vaudeville results when a producer said his fee would rise from $700 to $1200 if he created a memorable scene.

Plainly vulnerable and eager to please, Muir walked onto the show's set, sat next to veteran provocateur Sam Newman and played his part. Asked by host Eddie McGuire to comment on his brushes with umpires, Muir unleashed a stream of expletives, then responded to a pre-rehearsed eviction — "I don't want to put you in this position and I know it's embarrassing," McGuire said, suddenly serious, "but seriously, we're going to have to ask you to leave" — by upending the desk in front of Newman.

The studio audience, unaware of the setup, roared as though in response to one of Muir's famous hits. McGuire and Newman feigned amazement. Millions of home viewers had all their "Mad Dog" prejudices confirmed by the mayhem. The incident would later feature on a best-selling VHS, The Footy Show Greatest Hits. "The panel was in on the joke but the audience wasn't and was horrified," Newman told the Herald Sun in 2011.

How was that racist though?.... All they did was play up to his violent reputation.
Other 'highlight' skits that aired that night included Sheedy and Marmalade being named kings of Moomba and a woman who went into labour in the studio audience and named the kid after the panel members.

Muir went through a lot in his career, including having opponents racially baiting him so he would go off but it's drawing a long bow to claim the footy show incident was racially motivated.

You dont think if the AFL said "Hey, we are going to give you away games as home games as long as you give us the gate revenue" we would say yes?

Turn it up, like, like that's going to happen.
They could do the same for Port as well.

** Edit: I'm glad they didn't anyway.
Could you imagine the outcry if they gave us all home games!

And Freo and Adelaide and anyone who can get a crowd.

Cant save peoples jobs. Trent Cotchins wife just finally got the local salon to get the nail polish she likes and we are going to move games to generate crowds? No bloody way

I don't think the Footy Show bit was racist. I think in context of the larger ABC article it is more to do with reinforcement of a negative stereotyping of Muir as a "Mad Dog".

That's my take on it too, took advantage of a bloke down on his luck by making him play up to his "mad dog" reputation like some sort of circus act.

AFL360 having a massive melt as apparently the greatest witch hunt of all time has occurred with Lynch facing the tribunal.

He hit another player in the throat with a closed fist - to me its pretty self-explanatory why he is up there.

The thing that seems to be lost on the Victorian media in particular with this is that after last week Lynch was always going to be under a microscope because of the attention brought over the Collins incident and that the overwhelming consensus from the footballing fraternity is that he probably should have been suspended multiple times this season for his antics already. Given the context of that microscope, that he proceeded with again initiating a striking incident upon an opponent off the ball, shows that: he (and the club) don't think that normal rules apply to them and; that he is a dickhead of the highest order.

They really are trying to defend the indefensible.

While Lynch being out would have made life easier on Thursday I think the tribunal's decision is in line with other decisions they made this year in overturning bans for Hawkins and Yeo.

The issue here is the MRO and Tribunal have fundamentally different views on what constitutes "low impact" and "high contact".

They would want to get on the same page, otherwise there will continue to be needless suspensions, vexatious challenges by clubs wanting to try their luck, and a high number of cases where the tribunal overturns findings from the MRO and the MRO will lose all remaining credibility.
